[LFP][5e][Paid][Theros][Monday 3PM EDT] A DM seeking players for an Odyssey in Theros

Edited 1606119364
Who are you? I am Chrono, a fairly experienced DM and player of 5e, and I want to create a campaign together with any interested players. I have run the module Storm King's Thunder, the adventure Against The Giants, several oneshots (third party and homemade), and deep into the Dungeon of the Mad Mage. I have been playing 5e since its release. I have a substantial amount of system mastery over rules; assets such as art, music, and maps; and a willingness to work with players to find out what is most fun for them. I enjoy roleplaying, and I enjoy running battles. If you mean in terms of personal details, I am a male adult. What's the short version? I am planning to start a paid Mythic Odyssey campaign either in November or later in October. Weekly sessions will be from 3 PM EDT to 8 PM EDT on Mondays, with a charge of $12 per person per session. The intent is to run an open world game, with more loose threads and sandboxes, taking some inspiration from the meandering journeys of classical Greek mythology and literature. While there is unlikely to be a long term goal from the start, one may develop for the players as they play, and the end level and point will be player defined. About Seeking 3-5 total players. Mondays at 3 PM EDT, running until 7-8 PM EDT. This time can be negotiated to work better for the group - anytime on Monday! - but Monday is a non-negotiable condition. $12 per session, via Paypal, to be paid AFTER the session. No charge if a week is skipped. Alternatively, an upfront fee of $35 for every 4 sessions - no refunds if you miss a session, but some degree of refund would be possible should you choose to leave the game, and DEFINITELY a refund if I am forced to cancel the session for a week. In the event you do not pay after the session, I would want the payment owed for the prior session before you are allowed to rejoin the game. 4-5 hour sessions Played on Roll20, using Discord for voice and/or video. I own the majority of official 5e content on Roll20, and will share my compendium for this campaign! Anything officially published in a Wizards of the Coast book is allowed, with the exception of things which are noticeably setting specific (Dunamancy, for example). Even Artificer will be allowed, depending on how you flavor it! Races will be restricted to those known on Theros (Human, Centaur, Leonin, Minotaur, Satyr, Triton). Races that can be reflavored to fit Theros (for example, Aasimar, Tieflings) will also be allowed, and I intend to be a little bit generous on that front - in Theros, creatures can become exceptional for all sorts of reasons, especially heroes! Starting level decided by players. I prefer level 1 or 3, but the group as a whole can decide! Presentation-wise, music, maps, and tokens utilizing official art or close to official art will be used. Dynamic lighting may be used sometimes. Third party maps will be used frequently, 'drawn' maps or theater of the mind will also be used. A 'hero's journey' from being destined for something beyond ordinary people to becoming legends on the level of Achilles or Odysseus! But why should I pay? I am already involved in a large number of games, and while I want to run this game, I would not be able to do so without at least some funding to support the work I am putting in, any purchases I might make relating to the game, etc. Paying directly subsidizes and supports my ability to run the game effectively, and given that you are paying less than 2 dollars an hour for 5 hours of entertainment, I believe the price is fair. In the event I am forced to cancel a session substantially before the stated end time, or before all players agree the session should be over less than halfway into it, I will not charge full price. What are your behavior rules? Most of this should go without saying, and I don't think most of you need to know them! However, I will be more than happy to reject your money if you should choose to flagrantly break them. I am not required to accept you as a player if you actively ruin the experience for other players. Don't be awful. Insulting or nagging other players or the DM, gossiping about others, pot-stirring, or saying and doing reprehensible things (attacks on sexuality, gender identity, religious beliefs, having a character attempt to sexually assault another character or NPC, etc.) WILL get you kicked incredibly fast. Don't be domineering. If a player is struggling, with either roleplay or combat, that is not your queue to yell at them how you'd do it. This will get warnings. Respect people. If a player or the DM tells you they are uncomfortable with what you are saying or doing, and you don't cut it out fast, and without complaint or argument, you are going to have a problem. Don't abuse these rules. No, the fact you find a character's voice annoying is NOT reason to say you are uncomfortable. I mean, come on now. You know exactly what I meant. What are your gameplay house rules? I tend to mostly play by the book. House rules vary, but here are the most consistent, and the ones I intend to use: When making an ability check or saving throw, a roll of 20 adds 5 to the result, while a roll of 1 subtracts 5 from the result. This is done AFTER adding the 1 or 20. I may, at times, bring out custom or third party spells, feats, or items. These are usually restricted to qualifying individuals for gameplay or story reasons, but not always. When rolling for stats: Roll 4d6, drop the lowest, as normal to create an array of 6 numbers. You may either use this array of 6 numbers, or the Standard Array. Regardless, if BEFORE modifiers from race or any other features, you do not have at least one 17, set one of the numbers to be 17. When rolling for HP: You may choose average or rolled HP at level 2. You must continue to use your choice every level. There is no safeguard for rolled HP, and no switching later, you take what you roll. When creating a character: All characters get a feat at level 1 (this means Variant Human DOES get two feats). You may NOT take either Sharpshooter or Great Weapon Master before level 6. Variant human cannot take two 'half feats' (feats that increase ability scores). Sharpshooter, Spell Sniper, and Great Weapon Master: When using these feats, you may only use one of their bullet point benefits per attack. In the case of Great Weapon Master, this does mean that you may not make a bonus action melee attack if you reduced a creature to 0 HP with a +10 damage attack, or on a crit from a +10 damage attack. The exception is that the free cantrip from Spell Sniper can use either of the other bullet points when making an attack with it. It is required to have a reason to stick with an adventuring party regardless of personal differences. Chaotic Evil characters are not allowed, and Neutral Evil characters will require some justification. This isn't a ban on interparty conflict or differences in goals, just a notification that things like 'stealing all of the gold and hiding it from the party', 'shooting to kill before anyone in the party can negotiate', etc. are very good reasons for a character to get kicked out of a group, left to die, or otherwise have harm come to them. For example, as the party is coming together: an angry minotaur who hates humans joining a party with majority humans, and telling all humans to leave the group or die, should probably expect to be making a new character for the rest of the session. (Yes, I have seen something like this happen. I'm sorry, I know most people wouldn't do this, but I have to say for the record that this is based on a true story.) When Tasha's is out, content in it will be reviewed prior to being allowed (I previously had a ban on healing spirit before it was changed in errata) On resurrection: Coming back from the dead is difficult in Theros. While revivify works as you'd expect, by snatching the soul before it departs for the underworld, Erebos clutches the souls of those who reach the underworld tightly. Resurrection magic such as Raise Dead and Reincarnate will only work once or twice before catching Erebos' interest. No magic can pry a soul from his direct attention...but it is possible for a soul to escape, be rescued, or even negotiate with the god of the dead himself. I'm at least interested, what should I do? For joining the game, or asking questions, send me a message or comment below. I would like to have some time to check in with players at least one week before the game, as a group, for character discussion, discussion of house rules, intended content, and endpoints. There will not be a charge for this session 0, nor is there any charge or expectation of payment to talk to me about anything related to the game, in either text or voice. There is no pressure to join the game if you do not feel it is right for you after contacting me. This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $12 per session, or $35 for 4 sessions, for 4-5 hour sessions, via Paypal. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Session 0 is free. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/257722/an-odyssey-in-theros
Been very keen on a Theros game since I read the book, but sadly Monday's not a great day when I have another game at 5pm EST. Gimme a holler if the day ever changes. =P
