Greetings! I am looking to continue a West Marches inspired game using D&D's 5e ruleset. We have been playing for a few months now and the game has been a lot of fun! You can see my original post for more basic information on West Marches. Gameplay Please see the original post before reading: Gameplay has been largely as advertised in the original post. Over the course of our first four months of game players have steered the meta-plot towards a conflict with the hobgoblins by repeatedly interacting with them and their strongholds in-game. This second season's gameplay will revolve once again on whatever the players interact with. However, I would like to envelop the players in the ongoing martial conflict. Those with an express interest in strategy and battles will find lots to toy with. Naturally, there will be plenty of room to explore normally and adventure in a more conventional way. The surface of Runesbane will change as this conflict develops with or without player interaction. The Red Hand of Doom has been a big inspiration for this segment of the game, as well as Master of the Desert Nomads. Over the course of this season, the conflict will update and change. The Hobgoblin war machine will either be stopped in its tracks or plunder Brickmane and dominate the western coast of Runesbane. Either outcome will mean gold and conflict for wayfarers, explorers, and adventurers like you. Desired Player Traits Please see the original post before reading: The game has been more difficult than anticipated for some players. I fully intend to keep it that way as I enjoy difficult games. Often times the failures parties experience is due to poor tactical decisions. As an example: Players raided a pirate ship in order to stop them from harassing Runesbane's coast. A noble effort, but the party split themselves into vulnerable teams. A rogue and warlock both were caught open and far from their allies and both killed. Two others fled as the battle turned disfavorable and lived. And lastly still, a fighter was caught alone and without help and killed. The pirates had offered them an alternative but the characters elected to fight to the death. Compare this to another game in which players attempted to re-take a medusa's Stone Garden from gnolls. Players took the time before the session to purchase relevant resources such as traps, oils, and poisons, and sketched out a battle plan and retreat route. They recruit hirelings to reinforce them and executed their plan without a single causality. Gnolls' natural inclination to rush was abused and they were handily defeated. Careful planning is rewarded and rushing headlong into conflict is punished. Death is possible, but I am not an adversarial or "killer" DM. The threat of the enemies will be openly telegraphed. Crafty ideas to overcome dangerous challenges will be rewarded. This holds entirely true. I don't enjoy seeing people upset when they feel they've been wronged, so I want to be as open as possible with the dangers you will face. Setting Please see the original post before reading: Runesbane is now embroiled in a conflict which the colony of Brickmane has been dragged into. Players engaged in diplomacy and adventurers directly pertaining to the conflict between the Hobgoblins and their Sahaugin allies against a coalition of others include the local Lizardfolk, Kobolds and Orcs. There is still plenty of wild and unclaimed territory in Runesbane to explore. Hordes of treasure in dangerous locations from have sat untouched as no adventurer has had the steel to claim them. You can read more about the colony settlers here , and the landmarks of Runesbane here . And the summary of season one's events here . How to Join If you understand how a West Marches game is, and you think you would enjoy trying it please read this . Here is a roster of the current players.
