Just started Level 1 5E game has lost our muscle to school work. Looking to add a fighter/barbarian/anybody who can be the 'meat target' to keep our clerics and mages happy

Hi, folks...   after completing a long campaign, started up a new 5E game, with the 1st gaming session today.   After our barbarian had to drop out due to work/school issues, we are woefully short of attacking meat soaking up the hits and dealing damage so our less martial characters can avoid doing death saves in the first game.  I'm open to nearly any species in the book, be it players handbook, Monster Manuel or Volo's.  As long as it can fit in a door of a standard tavern (so no Frost Giant barbarians) and you can make a case to me how it works, I'm good with it.  Also fine with the standard elf/human/dwarf/half-orc type characters as well.   It DOES need, however to be a fighter, or barbarian, or something like that who likes to get down and dirty and do the damage... or as much as a 1st level guy does.  I'd venture he'd do better than the clerics and mage we had today.  Balance is needed, so requested a fighter of some variety to join our game!     This is a bi-weekly game, meeting alternate Sundays (we met today, so our next game will be November 1st, so you can munch on your leftover Halloween goodies while gaming), and we meet at 4pm Central Standard Time (I'm based in Austin, TX).   We are at 1st level, so you will start at 1st level, but the team will be 2nd level at the end of our next adventure, so you will as well.   I'm homebrewing nearly all of the adventures this time, being very unimpressed with the Campaign from Dragon Magazine I used last time (WAY too much railroading for my taste).   I let the characters decide what they want to do next week the most democratic way I could think of.  They go up to the 'Help Wanted' Board posted throughout the town square and decide which one they want to do.  I get it worked up, and we head out in the next session.   Here is the board posting for the adventure our 3 non-martial adventurers picked tonight at the end of our game: DESPERATE ASSISTANCE NEEDED – My life is in danger, I’m being followed by a hideous creature. Please see Gard T’hgic at The Angry Dwarf. If you are wanting to play a fighter/Barbarian type character, want to start at 1st level and grow, play a regular bi-weekly game on Sunday afternoons, and can be and want to be a good team player, we'd love to add you to the team!    Just respond to the message, and I'll take requests in the order received.  I'll keep record of all the requests, so any openings can come from people who wrote earlier.  Thanks for reading, and I look forward to adding a fighter soon! James, aka DM James
Hey! I might be interested in joining up on this campaign if possible! Have a barbarian already in mind for it as well and have been looking to play! Hit me up if you want more info, be happy to answer any questions!
I'd be interested in joining. Baldur's Gate 3 gave me the itch to play 5E again. Also, I have yet to find a group as good as the first group I found on here so fingers crossed.
Definitely interested. Would love to play a barbarian, could make the biweekly game without issue. I enjoy the team aspect of the game a great deal, role play, exploration and combat. please let me know if i am selected. thank you.
Hey James would you consider a Hexblade Warlock? I've got a concept for one I've been wanting to play for a while now but I'm forever DM haha :p They would be comfortable fighting on the frontlines swinging that hex weapon all over the place, in terms of tankiness I expect them to largely rely on AC and utility spells rather than outright hitpoints - can never compete with a barbarian on those! Thanks
I'd be interested in adding my name to the mix. I have an idea for a paladin of vengeance dwarf I've been hoping to try out. While relatively new to roll20, I have decades of gaming experience under my belt in several different games. D&D in all its versions has always been my favorite. If the paladin idea's too extreme, the same character concept works fine as a fighter too. Whether fighter or paladin, this would be a tank, with all that implies. Thanks!
Greetings and salutations! If it is a protector you seek; a righteous and selfless individual that sees their role of guardian as a calling, a duty; then look no further! I have a Satyr Paladin character in reserve for such an occasion. A green knight dedicated to staving off banality wherever it rears its vapid head and to inspire the group to live the life of effervescence. If that sounds suited to the campaign (and why would it not?) then please reach out to me and we can hash something out. Thanks
