I'm playing a vanilla wizard, level 2 Divination school. I picked up a Greatsword in an adventure, so I looked up "Greatsword" in the compendium, then dropped the item into my character sheet by dragging it from the compendium to my character sheet. The item shows in my inventory and in my Attacks & Spellcasting box on my Core page, but it shows full proficiency bonus even though I am not proficient with this weapon. When I click the gear on the Greatsword attack line, it shows the "Proficient" box is checked. I tested this with a Greataxe and the same thing happened; suddenly my wizard is proficient with the Greatsword and Greataxe. Is this correct? Do I need to keep an eye on the weapons I pick up during adventures and uncheck that Proficient box in the attack line? Or should the proficiency be getting picked up from the Other Proficiencies & Languages box? What can I do to fix this? Thank you! Alfred

This is correct. There are too many possible permutations and exceptions to make this sort of checking worthwhile. Your proficiencies are pretty much just a textual reminder, and it is up to the player to click the proficiency box in a weapon if needed.
Got it. Thank you very much for the response!
