Creating a character.

So.. forgive my ignorance, first off. I've never played a DnD game. Nope. Not a single one. But I have roleplayed on various forums in text and some with dice rolls but they were for basic actions and what not. That being said I have always admired and wanted to be a part of the DnD community to the point I donate frequently to players and groups on Twitch. And recently decided at 30, I'm mature enough to understand and be part of a community on a frequent basis and do what I can to help advance a good story and such. So I came here to Roll20 and was hoping to make a character and go from there. I have a PDF file on my desktop with a sheet from DnD beyond but wanted to make one for here, too. So my question is this; where, on Roll20, do I find, create and upload a character sheet?

Hi Redd, welcome to roll20 and rpg's in general.  While roll20 does allow you to import a pdf one page at a time, which is automatically converted to a image, you won't be able to effectively upload a pdf character sheet and have it converted as a roll20 sheet. ;-( Your best bet is to create your own game ( Roll20 Crash Course ) using the Official by Roll20 D&D 5e sheet, (assuming that's the version you intend to play...) Once you create a game, use the "Add+" from the sidebar's journal tab to create a new character. (skip the charactermancer option and "edit sheet directly") and simply edit the sheet's stats by hand to match your pdf version. FYI: some DM's will allow you to import your character into their game, some will require you to create a new character in their game, and some may have pre-generated characters that you can pick from.  You can use the Join a Game  page to look for a d&d 5e game.  As a new player, I also recommend toggling the "Only find games that welcome new players" to help better find an appropriate game. ;-) All that said, I believe there is an api script(for pro level subscribers) that allows you to import a beyond-based character to the roll20 5e sheet.  Someone else that's familiar with that will need to comment. Cheers
Thank you!
