[LFP] [5E] [PAID] DM looking for players for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist - Sundays 1-4pmEST

This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $7 USD per player per session via Paypal, prior to each session. Session Zero will be free. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. I am a DM looking for five or six players for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist , Sundays from 1-4pm EST (6-9pmUTC). Check out the LFG listing here About Me: I have over ten years of DM experience overall, and I've spent the last five years on a long-form D&D3.5 campaign, plus various one-shots, adventures, and modules sprinkled throughout. Most of my time has been spent in D&D 3.5, but I also have plenty of experience with D&D 5e and Pathfinder. I have worked with both newcomers and veterans, and have helped a good many new players figure out and become comfortable with the rules. I emphasize the group-storytelling aspect of tabletop: I'm here to help the party tell their story, and look good while they do it. The Campaign: This will be a campaign that generally follows the main story beats of the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist adventure module, which I have run before. There will be expansions, additions, and improvisations to exactly how it goes, to better suit group interests. So what is Waterdeep: Dragon Heist?  From the official roll20 blurb for the book: WELCOME TO WATERDEEP! A fantastic treasure trove is yours for the taking in this adventure for the world's greatest roleplaying game. Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest. Thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city’s most influential figures. A grand urban caper awaits you. Pit your skill and bravado against villains the likes of which you’ve never faced before, and let the dragon hunt begin! Schedule: We will meet once per week, Sunday from 1-4PM EST (6-9UTC). Sessions will be three hours long, with a five-minute-or-so break in the middle of each. I expect this will last for 6 months to a year. We will begin with a free “session zero” to get acquainted with one another, discuss character and story ideas, and otherwise prepare for the campaign.  Tentative first session time is set for November 29th, but our official start will depend on interest and availability. Rules and Expectations: We will be using Discord for voice communication. Video will NOT be expected of the players. Be decent. This campaign will be LGBTQ+ friendly. There will be zero tolerance for sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of bigotry. Players of any level of experience are welcome. Whether you've been playing since AD&D or this is your first foray into tabletop, you are welcome to join this campaign. Just be ready and able to invest yourself and try. I will accommodate for newer or less-experienced players, to help get them caught up. No homebrew content will be allowed for character creation. All official WotC content will be allowed. This includes Unearthed Arcana content, with the caveat: all UA content must be checked with the DM ahead of time. Engage. Tell me, or the group, what you as a player and as a character want out of this campaign and world. Help us all, as a group, to tell a meaningful story. Regular attendance will be expected. I respect that sometimes life happens, especially in the current ongoing global pandemic situation.  Sometimes sessions will be missed. This is okay. However, this is a paid group activity wherein your presence or absence will affect the dynamic, so I ask that you do your best to attend every session, and let us know as far in advance of any absence as you can. If you have paid for a session that you miss, your payment can either be applied to the next session or refunded to you, your choice. Application: If you are interested, please fill out the following either via roll20 private message or as a reply in this thread.  If I don't get back to you within a day or so of your application, please assume that the site is being wonky about PMs and try again. Name: Nick N. Pronouns: He/Him Age or Age Category: 21 D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  (how much have you played of what versions, are you part of an improv troupe, etc) I don't have any D&D experience. I have played many RPG video games like Divinity and FF so I am not unfamiliar with fantasy adventures. I am looking for a way to sink my teeth into the D&D environment. I have been watching some popular D&D5e campaigns on youtube to try my best to not make myself look like a complete noob. I did act in high school but I am now a senior in college so I'm out of practice. Preferences and Triggers:  (The goal here is for  everyone  to be comfortable and have fun. This helps me be better aware of topics to avoid and plan around to ensure that goal is achieved) I don't have any preferences as I've never played before but I just ask that you be willing to answer my questions when I have them. I can even send them via text chat so that it doesn't take away from the others experience but I know myself and I will have a lot of questions as to how or why something is working or happening. I don't think I have any notable triggers, I'm very respectful and stay calm in person and online. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  (rolling big numbers on damage dice, tactical combat, roleplaying with other players, meeting weird and interesting NPCs, etc) I think that the problem solving and puzzle components would be the biggest draw for me. I like the freedom that D&D offers in combat and when interacting with NPC's and other PC's. Basically the way that there typically isn't just one way to solve a problem. I am interested in the roleplaying aspect a bit less but I think it will be really fun to throw myself into a character, my growing problem with video games which is pushing me towards tabletop gaming is the restrictions on player choice.

Name: Arnaud aka NoNo Age or Age Category: 23yo D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  I'm kind of a noob: I played 3 sessions as a farmer's bastard son half-orc sorcerer (the backstory is that his mother was raped by a shaman orc and was raised by the farmer's family, developping his arcanic orc-linked-heritage over time) before the lockdown and it hasn't started back since (one guy had covid, then one other got a baby...). I also recently did an OS as a dwarf alchimist alcoholic on pathfinder and an other OS a while back as a monk Aarakocra in search for the staff broken in seven parts (don't recall the name that one). Last thing I wrote and am DMing a campaign with friends in a desertic world. Preferences and Triggers:  I like to laugh and don't really have any trigger. I like dark humour and stuff like that but as you mentionned is LGBTQ friendly and I am a respectful person, if those kind of jokes must be avoided I will. In term of game I am willing to play any role (support, dammage, tank, ...) because I don't really have a preference yet. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  I'm interested in every aspects of the game but my character will not be the boring human fighter, more the atypical guy with a french accent (because I'm french). That's to say that I like to be creative whether it is in role play or in combat. Most of all I want to join a game in order to take inspiration from more experienced DM to improve my friends' game experience when I am DMing.
Name: Redkhur Pronouns:He/Him Age or Age Category:31 D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  Been playing 5e for 2 years now, DMing for 1 and I've been part of a improv group for years! Love to roleplay and get into the character Preferences and Triggers:  I'm pretty open to most things and am accepting of everyone!  What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  I love the puzzles and intrigue. I really enjoy finding a solution to the problem and working with the team to overcome whatever obstacles we face! Also tons of fun to roleplay with NPCs and create an amazing story!
Name:  AlienMoss and/or Eyan Pronouns : He/Him Age or Age Category: 25 D&D and Roleplaying experience: have a decent amount of experience playing the game physically but always found it hard to meet consistently with people’s schedules  Preferences and Triggers: No real likes/dislikes just find it fun to play  What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: it’s fun and I really like the strategy and working together as a team
Name: Nic Pronouns: He/Him or appropriate to character  Age: Depressingly old Experience: I've played D&D since the original AD&D, but off and on over the years, including other RPGs such as Shadowrun and Cyberpunk. I've DM'd and GM'd for various things but prefer the fun of playing alongside others. Preferences & Triggers: None really, prefer to stay away from discussion of inflammatory subjects. My humour can be rather dark, as my experience in life has been that way (eg, Trained as a Forensic Technician) but I do my best to be playful and friendly. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: I love the feel of playing alongside others to discover a brand new story every time, and the unpredictability of the group mechanics on a story. Many of the genuinely funniest moments I've ever experienced have been in RPGs.
Name: Gus Pronouns: He Age or Age Category: 44 D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  Played in the 80's a few times, Played a few times in the 90's, and a homebrew one-shot for 5e recently. Preferences and Triggers:  Don't enjoy pushy mean people who are not accepting of others. I like relaxed games and working as a team to find unique solutions to problems.  What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  An escape from the day to day and a chance to be a hero. :) I am also a 3D sculptor of tabletop miniatures. I've been doing it for about a year.
Name: Pflanzy or Ben (I don't mind as long as I know I am being adressed) Pronouns: he/him (or characterspecific, i don't really mind) Age or Age Category: 29 About me: I am a laid-back guy and a little bit shy until I get to know you. I don't like pushing myself onto people with my hobbies or opinions and I respect the personal limit of others. I am a fan of dark/dirty humor but I do understand the limits to that and I usually keep it low and slowly work my way up to the level thats comfortable for you. In my free time I like to play all kinds of videogames and watching anime (Fudge them weebs am i right). I believe in the right for everyone to express themselves in a manner they see fit as long as it does not break the personal/safe space of those around them. May it be verbal, visual or otherwise. Since you specifically mentioned LGBTQ+ friendliniess I want to mention that I am absolutely fine with it and will follow whatever rules and guidelines the players+DM agree on. In my professional live I am working as a (motivational) coach requiring me to react to people's specific circumstances and unexpected events influencing them and their work. D&D and Roleplaying Experience: Years ago I watched some people play a few sessions but never had the chance to play any TTRPG myself. I do have a lot of experience roleplaying from video games (single and multiplayer) like Guild Wars, Divinity, TES-Series, Diablo, FF-Series and some smaller games. With the start of the pandemic I rediscovered the world that is D&D and fully dove down the rabbithole it is. I watched a lot of games and tutorials on twitch/youtube and went through the tutorials on Roll20/DnDbeyond and am currently working my way through all the source books. I understand the basic gameplay of D&D and what it's all about. I also dabbled in creating some characters myself. Preferences and Triggers: I do not like people who deliberately break/push the boundaries of others. And ignorance. I like people who know that the world does not exist for only themselves. Soft-Limit Min/Max-ing: I dont mind having a strategy or working out a plan for characterdevelopment yourself or with your team. But please don't waste half the session with "Should I put 2 points in dex now or should I go str/con or maybe take a feat? Wait, let's talk about multiclassing?!". I am sure this can be discussed in/over discord between sessions. Regarding roleplay: I am absolutely fine with any 18+ content (gore, blood, sexual/erotic, mental illness,...) being present in the game/world or being played out, as I am a dirty jokester myself. But I will not play out any "hands-on/hard" sexual roleplay myself. That said I don't expect/need 18+ content in my game but I will happily work with it if presented. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: Immersing myself fully in my character and the world they are put in is the most fascinating aspect of D&D for me. I don't care if it's combat, casually talking to my partymembers or an NPC, searching for clues in a bloody cave or blindly running into a pitfall I will always try my best to stay in character and make decisions that my character would do. Even if it means certain death (e.g. as a LG human/paladin throwing myself in front of a partymember to block a deadly arrowshot while being on 1HP). On the other hand I do not actively look for ways to sacrifice my character on purpose. I will follow the events of the world, the conviction of my character and the guidance of the dice. I also love to be thrown into unexpected/absurd/sureal situations (combat-, exploration- and roleplay-wise) and being presented with seemingly unsurmountable encouters and working out the weakpoints/solution together with my party. The timeslot fits me perfectly and I will be able to attend every session for the forseeable future (Weekend in general is a good time for me). Hit me up on Roll20 or Discord (Pflanzy #3861) if you have any questions/news. Looking forward to go on an adventure with you all!

Name: Shivanesti Pronouns: He, Him Age or Age Category: Forever 25 (but actually much older) D&D and Roleplaying Experience: I've played several TTRPGs over the course of many years, including D&D (1st, 2nd, 3.5, and very recently 5E), and Champions as both player and DM.   I've also RPed in most of the MMORPGs I've played.  Currently, I'm playing 5E with RL friends using Foundry, but I am itching to play more :-) Preferences and Triggers: I'm very much looking forward to having a great time, with nice and engaging people who are looking for the same.  Definitely prefer to stay away from real life polarizing issues with people I have not yet come to know well.  Hoping for a group of mature individuals who can be comfortable with each other, while we playing in a kind and friendly environment. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: I'm interested in an equal split between RP and combat, watching our characters grow in-game as individuals and part of the group, as well as their mechanical progression.    I have several ideas for different characters that I'd love to see play out, but I'm looking to experience the one character I play advance from low levels to 20, assuming it survives!  I have a Wizard character that I believe would fit this campaign very well, and I'm really looking forward to playing in it :-) I have no issue with the P2P requirement, and this time slot works very well for me, so my dedication is here!
Name: Tristan Pronouns: He/ Him Age or Age Category: 30   D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  I have played a few games at local game stores and I started my first run as a DM right before the Rona hit but that ended up getting canceled. All around I would still call myself fairly new to roleplaying but I have a decent understanding of D&D mechanics. Preferences and Triggers: No specific preferences. I enjoy a good mix of everything, combat, puzzles, rp. No triggers What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  I enjoy the character development/creation. I also like seeing the different types of characters other people create and how they play those characters.
Name: Alex Pronouns: He/Him Age or Age Category: 23 D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  I am new to rpg table top games in general and only played few games of dnd 5e (started a campaign as a player but our group's schedule never lined up). I pick up on rules pretty quick because I used to play wargames like warhammer 40k.I have tried a little bit of role playing but since I don't have any background in acting, my character decision are based on what I know/do in that situation and not what "MALKADOR the wielder of wild magic and enigmatic master of the arcane" would know/do in the situation given. To cut to the base I'm a bit of a dummy and it'll probably take a little time for me to be creative in spontaneous situations. Preferences and Triggers:  I try to be respectable and I'm easy going. However I cuss a bit and if I slip and say the term "that starts with a B" I apologize and I'm working on it. But if that makes other people in the group uncomfortable then thank you for your time. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  I really like creating a character, knowing rules/limits and being immersed in game.
Name: Stephen AKA Medi Pronouns: He / Him Age or Age Category: 30 D&D and Roleplaying Experience: I've only ever played DnD 5e and only over Roll20. I ran a game of Dragon's Heist for a group of friends and played a few oneshots. I used to roleplay on forums and in some games when I was a teenager. Preferences and Triggers: I'm pretty easy going. I'd prefer to avoid romance role play (for me personally but if other players at the table do it, that's cool). What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: Something about creating a story from scratch and mostly on the spot. The chaos of the dice and having fun with whatever outcome they provide. And I absolutely love creating characters.
Thank you all for your interest.  I'm following up with everyone, and no longer seeking additional applications.
We're looking for one more player for this campaign.  Currently, we're three sessions in and the PCs are 2nd level. The party currently contains: Sorcerer, Fighter, Wizard, and Monk Paraphrased from the top of the first post: This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $7 USD per player per session via Paypal, prior to each session. Your first session with us is free. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. I am a DM looking for a fifth player for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist , Sundays from 1-4pm EST (6-9pmUTC). Check out the LFG listing here Thanks!

Name: Seth, I also often just go by my common profile/user name Lorkmir. Pronouns: he/him Age or Age Category: 29 D&D and Roleplaying Experience: I dived head first into 5e a few years ago (my very first time playing was DMing for 8 of my friends). Since then I've usually averaged at least a handful of ongoing games a week, both player and DM. I've also spent some time with Pathfinder 2e, Legend of the Five Rings, GURPS, and Star Wars (fantasy flight version). Preferences and Triggers: I don't personally have anything that bothers me. I do greatly enjoy horror when I can get it (big fan of Curse of Strahd and Rime of the Frostmaiden), but I enjoy "all types" as it were when it comes to adventure styles, classic heroes journey type and otherwise. I really like Eberron's noir themes and have yet to play through Dragon Heist, which I know features some of those elements. What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs: I like meeting and playing interesting or novel characters; I have over 500 characters made through DnDBeyond just for fun in my spare time as an example of my character obsessions. The best part of playing a tabletop RPG to me is when a group of characters forms good chemistry and just has those wonderful RP moments.
Name: Jesse  Pronouns: they/them Age or Age Category: 30 D&D and Roleplaying Experience:  I've played a few years of Pathfinder 1e, six-ish years (since its release) of D&D 5e, and been a fantasy author for over a decade - been awhile since I've been able to story tell, so I'm looking to warm up my chops over the next year or so. Preferences and Triggers:  I preferentially lean towards complex campaigns that require thought and rewards trial-and-error and creative gameplay (to an extent). Especially excited that it's a pre-written campaign that I haven't done yet. No triggers, just set expectations of an upcoming session if it's gonna be intense and I'm good.  What interests you about playing tabletop RPGs:  The biggest thing is creating a story with other people - I spend a fair amount of energy and thought on my character's design and decisions (and I believe many players do), so it's always awesome to see a player be so immersed in their character that a win for the PC is a win for the player. I really dig tactical combat as well - stormwind min-maxer (story focused, best meta character design decisions that align with the truth of the character) here, so if you do go with me just lemme know if that's not cool and I'll chill on it... but I've killed a girallon at point blank range with a bow before and I love the thrill of landing in a situation that shouldn't quite be feasible with just the comfort of my character design to give me hope.
