Hey everybody. I'm going to start an Apocalypse World campaign soon. What the hell is Apocalypse World, you ask? http://apocalypse-world.com/backpitch.html Boom. From this link, you can find literally any information you want about the game. There are free PDFs available that contain character information, information about the game concepts, how the game is played, etc. Apocalypse World is extremely similar to Dungeon World, if you have any experience with that. If not, then Apocalypse World is an extremely narrative-driven game, unlike D&D which would be mechanically-driven, or even combat-driven if you're playing 4th edition. An example of this would be that there are no "basic attacks" that you make for 1d6 damage, or something. If you want to fuck somebody up, you roll to fuck 'em up. Another example might be that you don't run out of bullets because you didn't buy enough, but rather maybe you run out of bullets because it suits the narrative to have you run out of bullets at that point. This kind of game requires mutual trust between the players and the DM (MC, or Master of Ceremonies, in Apocalypse World), so it can be difficult to find people for. The setting is a post-apocalyptic Earth, where life is hard, everything sucks, and you're probably going to die painfully. There is never enough food, enough shelter, enough hope... ever since the sky burned and the world shuddered as it began to die, shit began to suck pretty much everywhere. Society fell apart quicker than you'd believe, and what's left is a madhouse. Just people doing the worst kinds of things to other people, trying to keep their heads above water, trying to carve out a place for themselves... or just trying to have a good time while they charge headlong toward inevitable death. My group is me, the MC, and two players whom I've played in a couple D&D 4e campaigns with. We've never played Apocalypse World, but I've watched/learned a ton about it. I'm super pumped to play it, and am totally ready to bring it as an MC. What I'm looking for is another one or two players who want to play Apocalypse World. Indulge me as I repeat that: I am looking for people who WANT to play APOCALYPSE WORLD. Specifically. I want people who will bring it, hard, when we play. Far too many times I've been playing games with people who just kick back, show up to sessions and wait to be entertained. Their characters are quiet, while they talk out-of-character. They don't make decisions, don't form relationships with NPCs, and just generally don't have a presence in the game. Well, fuck that noise. If you want to play Apocalypse World, you better bring it. This game thrives on enthusiasm. The impetus of world-building isn't on the MC nearly as much as it is in other game systems; in AW, the players build alongside the MC. When you make a character, I might ask what you've been up to lately, before the campaign starts. Maybe you were a raider who terrorized a local town. Maybe that's how you met another of the PCs in the party. Maybe you're just a couple of douchebags who prey on people who are weaker than you. Great! So what's the name of the town you've been attacking? Do the people in there know who you are, by name? Is there anyone in there who you'd consider to be the 'leader' of the town? What's his or her name? Is that the guy who shot you, a while back? Did I mention that someone from that town shot you? Well, they did. Those bastards. So yeah. If you've read this far, cool. The TL;DR of all of this is: I'm going to be doing an Apocalypse World campaign soon. This is a very narrative-driven game that thrives on player interaction, and participation. You don't need a firm idea of who your character is at the start. The less you have planned, the better. This game is about "what may be", rather than "what already happened". From the first session on, it's you, me, and the other players building this world, deciding what the game is going to be about, who the people are that are in it, and how they're all gonna die. If you have any interest, hit me up by replying here, or send me a PM. Please include your name, age, and general availability. For reference, my name's Nick, and I'm 28 years old. I'm American, and the other two people in my group are as well, so we'll be operating between those timezones. So we might start a session at 8:00 PM EST, which would be 5:00 PM PST, and like... eleventyone o'clock in England. Or something. You get the point. It might suck if you live on the other side of the world, but if you can make it work, then fuck yeah. Let's play some Apocalypse World. Thanks for reading. Oh, and if anyone has any interest, here ya go. I typed up a brief primer for what Apocalypse World's setting is, and a little bit about what a few of the classes are. The main point of this is that I think it conveys the tone/style/attitude of the Apocalypse World game very well. So if you dig it, cool. If you don't, then... uhh... bye. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RMY6u82DwEv0xNtmXuxTbFhNhBs81m88o-MshmkXanM/edit?usp=sharing (again: lemme know your name, age, general availability, and then tell me why you want to play this. Or just tell me that you do want to play. Make me believe it. Come on. Seduce me.)
Name is Ghost (I'll use my real one in game) 26 years old My availability varies cause I run a game right now and I'm planning on running two more in the future I want to play this game because I am a fan of *World. Have been playing DW for months now here and in IRL with my wife and friends. Even though I have played DW a lot I haven't played AW ever so I would to have a chance to play the game that started (to my knowledge) dozens of hacks around the world. It is an exciting and fast paced system that flows naturally. One of the best parts, if not the best, is that the game depends on the players ability to roleplay and not how they built the character they play. In the end I would love to share the passion to the people I play with because I want to GM this game at some point in the future. Thanks for considering!
My name is Charlotte, and I'm 21 years, Eastern Time Zone, and my schedule is free most late afternoons and evenings. I replied to a post your friend made on Reddit, but I thought I'd reply here too. Here's a list of reasons why you want me in your campaign: 1. I'm an artist whose hobby is worldbuilding, so creativity and collaboration are gonna be no problem. 2. I love roleplaying heavy campaigns, it's practically the whole reason I game; to get involved in a world, to become a new character, and while I've only ever played GURPS and D&D, I'm more than willing to 'Bring It" to a new setting. 3. I've literally punched out Azathoth in a previous campaign so you know I'll be handy in the apocalypse. I'm starting to comb through the website for the literature, and while I know you haven't planned much yet, for the record I think I'd like to be an Angel. Just let me know if you think I'd be a good fit. Thanks!
I also posted on the Reddit post but figured I would post here too. My name is Garret, I am 28 and in EST. I work during the day and have evenings free. I will be moving toward the end of July which might be a problem so feel free to keep me as an alternate but I want to play (so much that I had logged on here to post my first post). I have played before and love the game and the narrative driven system. I want to play because I love this game and want to give Roll20 a try. I have played Fiasco on Hangouts a couple of times with some of my not big gamer friends. I am really creative when it comes to dealing with situations in my Path group and would love to bring that to the AW to keep everyone alive...well myself anyways. -G
3 weeks ago? Jesh. I don't like my luck, but any chance at getting an AW up and running... Whenever I've sat down at a table to roleplay in the last 6 months I've been Powered by the Apocalypse . Monster of the Week, Dungeon World, Apocalypse World, you name it and I've taken a stab at it, cut off a hunk of it and roasted it over a fire. But I just can't get enough! My schedule is flexible and I'm serious about a campaign once I've started, so no need to worry about losing a player midway through; hell, I'll even jump into the middle of a campaign if you need another warm seat. So let me know if you're still looking for players!
