A couple of old school add1/2 players looking for 2-3, 40+ like minded individuals. Familiarity with 5e and roll20 a bonus. We use Discord for chat. We are 70% battle tactics, puzzle solving, and exploration - 30% roleplay. We love backstories, immersion, and are looking for a long term commitment. We use maps, battle maps, and tokens along with theater of mind. We also are looking for a group of like minded older players that like to DM and Play so we could rotate to give everyone in the group a chance to play and DM. Homebrew, sandbox, and modified modules concepts all welcome. To us the rules are a guide, we enjoy humor and flavor, but are also able to stay focused. We are not looking for drama or lack of commitment. If interested comment with your experience and interest.

This is a topic that could literally have a "Gamers Thesis" applied to it with lots of exposition on the variable qualities of those seeking a game of D&D, when you have these complex subcultures that seek a game to their taste it's clear that the monacre of "Gamer" is too simplistic for a group of people that are way too diverse for a one size fits all definition. I'm the other half of Bry's post, my characters are based on my own personal need to stand in the shoes of an Adventurer. Thoughtful and emotional character driven actions with a problem solving mindset, I bring a laugh or two since things in any setting are balanced on a knife's edge. In my mind Adventurers don't seek a comfy fire to retire by as a permanent place to be, it may be the solace they seek at some needed respite but only for a short time to ensure their sanity after horrible things. If the role I assume is either savior or villain I try for immersion in it, I'm not perfect at it as a player but it's typically my intent. I can't play a mostly RP driven game as I've learned that so much "theatre of the mind" tends to lose my attention, I need action. I value RP as a driver to the story and a way to develop my own immersion however I gotta have a fight that validates the character's decisions, aspirations, and qualities. I design my characters with the intent of being able to succeed in those moments such that I can feel heroic. Adventurers are not normal people, not commoners, at least it seems to me they don't aspire to it or wish to risk it all like an adventurer does. Being a dark character with not so human motivations is just as fun to me, you can still be a hero of sorts albeit my motivations may not strictly be moral. I don't play murder hobos whoever. Maybe we can play some D&D...
