@{selected|wtype} in front of macros?

Dear Community, I am currently trying to make universal macros that aims for "the selected token" and therefore avoid to update the macros if possible. Whenever I hit the arrow-key up to see the macro, I find they always start with '@{selected|wtype}'. Searching the forum the majority if not all keep them in their macros? It doesn't change the macro, it's just how it is send to the text chat, but in your PC/NPC sheet one have already decided on this matter? Would you recommend to keep the '@{selected|wtype}' or just loose it?

If it brings you value, I would suggest keeping it.  That will only work with certain character sheets (most notably the 5e by Roll20 sheet).  There is probably a mix of macros people post that are being used with other sheets, and macros that have the desired output encoded directly in the macro, rather than relying on the sheet.

The setting on the sheet will no longer do anything if you remove that from your macro - if that's the desired intent (hard-code the macro to ignore sheet settings and always roll public, for example) then remove it. If you want the toggle on the sheet to work with your macros, you need to leave it in. Your macro has no other way of knowing whether to whisper something to the GM, than grabbing the @{wtype} Attribute from the selected sheet.
Thank you for quick replies Aaron and Oosh! I build my macros around the (5e OGL sheet) so I think it is best to leave it in because, it doesn't "hurt the macro" and in case I want to switch to a toggle-setting it will still work.
