[LFP/DM] [D&D5e][Free][Weekend] Forming a new group and need a player who is also willing to DM

Hey guys, This post is for recruiting Player/DMs for long-term campaigning, role playing, and epic adventuring! Preferably, we would be a D&D5e/Roll20 group that would play every Friday or Saturday at 6 or 7pm-10 or 11pm EST. Exact day & time TBD. *This first round is dedicated to enlisting Players who can DM (Player/DMs), or who want to DM in the near future. The second round will be dedicated to finding players who fit well with the group. The basic idea is to have a group of 4-6 people with at least 2 people who could DM. Two DMs would run two separate games/campaigns, on an alternating schedule, about every 2 weeks or so (i.e., I would run one campaign for two weeks, then someone else would run another game for two weeks). If there are enough player/DMs or interest in becoming one, the DMing could run round-robin style between the players, but if you do not want to DM that is fine as well. This approach allows everyone a chance to play and experience different styles of DMing. My D&D background includes over 15 years of TTRPG experience, although mostly in 1st & 2nd ed. and many years ago. For just over the last 3.5 years I've been playing 5e and gaming on Roll20, almost exclusively as DM.   I tend to run a challenging game, so players who know or learn the importance or planning, strategy, and knowing thine enemy will fare better. I invest heavily in my games, spending a good amount of effort and energy setting up encounters, weaving storylines, and setting up killer themed soundtracks. Goals for our group members : Be Proactive in our communication and how we play the game. Be enthusiastic and seek to facilitate connections with others. Be Engaged, taking the plots and settings fairly seriously, looking for ways to incorporate our characters into storylines, finding reasons why our characters would do something that progresses the story, and don’t try to undermine or negate. Be Committed to making the game better. We show up on time, prepared and ready to play. We seek to be helpful and supportive. Be cooperative, interactive, and supportive with a drive towards collaborative storytelling. Be interested in games with different foci or with varying combinations of foci (i.e., Roleplay/Social, tactical Combat, and Exploration). If you are only interested in roleplay heavy games, this will likely not meet your needs. Given the variability in the DMing styles and games played, those interested should be flexible in their play style and capable of having fun in different settings. *Group members have an equal voice; The DM has final say in all matters during (their) game play. * Rules Lawyers need not apply .   *If you are interested, please take a moment to tell us something about yourself below or send me a direct message. Name: Pronouns: Age: Timezone:   How long have you been playing D&D? .   How long have you used roll20?   What are your pet peeves? (D&D related)   What do you love about D&D?   Tell me about yourself. (sense of humor, personality, anything you're comfortable sharing.)   What are you looking for from the group and from the games?   What is your play(er) style? (Like to rp? Prefer to roll dice and chill? Down to Dungeon crawl?) What types of characters do you like to play? What interest you the most about this opportunity? What hesitations do you have about this group?
Name: Mel Pronouns: Anything male Age:  22 Timezone: PST   How long have you been playing D&D?  Around 150 hours all together now.   How long have you used roll20? I have only used roll20 for maybe around 15 hours of total playtime. I am moderately acquainted  with using it.    What are your pet peeves? (D&D related) I really dislike it when is when one player is constantly throwing out ideas nonstop and not allowing any person to have an input. Like I understand you are excited to play the game, but so is the other 3-4 players. Also when people talk over each other. I really abhor this. Especially when a person has a bad habit of doing it over and over again. I understand sometimes you both might just start talking at the same time, but sometimes one of you just has to stop and say, "go ahead."   What do you love about D&D? I love the emergent  stories that are told as you are playing. I love that the actions of players can have short and/or long term consequences  or benefits. I guess overall I just love how malleable DnD is.    Tell me about yourself.  (sense of humor, personality, anything you're comfortable sharing.) Overall I am fairly laid back and relaxed. I do like to joke around often, but I am always respectful. If I do cross any boundaries I am quick to apologize and acknowledge what I did wrong. I am not ever going to raise my voice OOC at any person at the table, nor am I ever going to start any OOC drama. If I have an issue I will try to resolve it by talking respectfully when appropriate .    What are you looking for from the group and from the games?  I am looking for consistent players and a campaign that at least lasts longer than 3 sessions. Other than that just decent human beings. You know like no players that will willing make other players uncomfortable because of their different taste.    What is your play(er) style? (Like to rp? Prefer to roll dice and chill? Down to Dungeon crawl?) I like both equally, but not too much of one. I feel like there should be a good balance, and we should always have an option of which we want to do. I understand that maybe one or two sessions might lean to one side or the other, but I will be turned off if the whole campaign leans to one side unless otherwise stated that is will be that kind of campaign.  What types of characters do you like to play? I have never played a campaign long enough to fully flesh out a character, but I feel like I can play any kind of character. From dark and brooding to upbeat and joyful and everything in between. I can have tons of fun playing anything.  What interest you the most about this opportunity? Its an opportunity to play as a player and DM. I am slightly more experience as a player, and just starting as a DM. I am running a group on Sundays through LMoP, so it will be a great opportunity to have fun and learn. What hesitations do you have about this group? I haven't met any of you the people, so not really. The only thing I can think of if I do end up running a game my inexperience will possibly lead it being at a slower pace that are used to and not the same quality that the co-dm is running their game at.
Thanks for your interest Mel. I will send you a PM later today. ~Sherlock
Incidentally, please don't be discouraged if you do not have years of DM experience. We can have fun with a variety of ability levels, especially with good players who have fun engaging in different types of experiences. The best way to develop your craft is to practice it, and practicing it with experienced people can accelerate your growth. Almost any game can be fun with the right people!

Name: Roger Pronouns: He Age: 35 Timezone: EST   How long have you been playing D&D? . Since 4th edition, usually in multiple campaigns a week. I have DM'd a a few campaigns and many many one shots. I prefer being a player though (also cause its far less work).   How long have you used roll20? 2017   What are your pet peeves? (D&D related): 1) Murder hobos. 2) Players who do not understand D&D is about shared story telling. It is better for everyone if you help other peoples stories grow over your own assuming  they will do the same. By that same token, if other players are having a strong roleplaying moment, the worst  thing  you can do as a player is to dismiss it or try to destroy it. 3) Players who spend more time waxing about their other games then playing the one we are doing together.     What do you love about D&D? Shared story telling and a dynamic world where solutions are not static. I love creative solutions to different problems and seeing where it leads. This applies to all 3 pillars of exploration, combat and roleplay.    Tell me about yourself.  (sense of humor, personality, anything you're comfortable sharing.) I am a cancer clinical researcher. I love D&D a lot. I like to joke around and have fun but also to have intense roleplay as well.    What are you looking for from the group and from the games? A consistent  group that wants to have fun and am looking for the things I described above.    What is your play(er) style? (Like to rp? Prefer to roll dice and chill? Down to Dungeon crawl?) I prefer RP over just relying on dice. The advantage of D&D over a computer game is that it is not always numerical. I love a mix of RP , exploration and combat. That being said, I am fine with having sessions of pure RP and then days of pure combat. Sort of depends on the what the group/dm wants.  What types of characters do you like to play? Full casters are my weakness. Mostly because I love the versatility it can provide to different situations.  What interest you the most about this opportunity? I have done rotating DM campaigns before. It can be good or bad. What hesitations do you have about this group? I am not sure if the 2 week proposal is the best option. My experience  is that you often find yourself  in awkward  spots narratively . I am currently running one that alternates campaigns based on story arcs. The first week back is hard as its longer since they last played but then they get into it more. So far my most successful  model is when I ran a campaign with clear arcs. Between arcs, each of the players ran a  mini arc lasting 1-3 sessions using the same characters they were playing. The idea was primarily to reveal and explore  each of the players backstories. So the PC for who ever was running the session was usually indisposed for some reason, as we did a session that revolved around that character .  It worked really well since we were all DMs and I was able to incorporate  some of the expanded stories into the campaign easier.  Also after the first round, the dms at the table were able to add content to expand other players backgrounds instead of just their own . We basically had an unspoken rule that obviously had to be separate  from the main campaign and obviously could not give any real loot. I basically was still the gatekeeper for loot and amounted  to X gold or fluff magic items. We were doing   milestones  so no worry about xp.  It also gave great variety as we each have our own style. Some more dark and gritty, others more comical   and  silly. Meanwhile I had time to plan next arc each time.   Please note I can only do Fridays cause of other commitments.
Kin ,Thanks for the reply and thoughtful input. I will send you a message shortly.
