Character Seeing Map?

I am a new GM on Roll20, and searching didn't find this answer...  I added a character to a map in my game, but they couldn't see the map. All they saw was the title screen. As a side question that may be related, how does Roll20 know which person is tied to the specific character? When I created the character I set "Can be Edited and Controlled By" to All Players. Is that correct?

Double check that the token is set up with vision (in the correct location, i.e. Legacy or Updated DL). Once set up properly, be sure to change the default token for the character sheet to the updated token with the proper settings. Wait, you said they see the title screen (assuming this is a landing page of some sort?), so vision is prob set up properly. Did you move the player ribbon to the map you want them to see? If by "title screen", you mean something other than a page you have set up, have they actually launched your game? Sounds like a silly question, but you never know :) Re represents: If you set to "All players", then all players will be able to see "through" that token's eyes. If that's not what you want, you can explicitly set that property to specific player(s). Same comment regarding default token applies here, as well.
I right clicked on the token and set  Can See. Ok, how do I change the default token to the updated token?> Not sure what you mean by Player Ribbon... I clicked the character in the Journal and dragged it to the map, if that is what you mean.

Here are some sources on setting up tokens. Here is the wiki article on  Linking Tokens to Journals Here is a  video  which demoes the procedure But in general, you assign a sheet to a specific player, and a assign a token to a specific character, from which it will pick up the permissions. As for sight, here is a brief checklist: Are both player and GM on the map that has the player flag? If using regular Fog of War, has the GM cleared any areas for the players (the default when activated is for the entire map to be obscured). If using Dynamic Lighting: is the token correctly assigned, does it have sight turned on, and is there a light source? Be sure not to mix Legacy and Updated Dynamic Lighting. Use one or the other, and for a less pretty, but more stable experience, continue with Legacy for the time being.
Player Ribbon: Click the small banner in the upper left corner to open the overview of all your maps. You will find one map with a red banner on it: the Player Ribbon. Your players will always see only this map, no matter if there are tokens they control on other maps.

Addendum to the above post. This is true unless you have used the Split the Party feature, which allows you to have players on different maps form each other or the player flag. The page I linked is probably a good would to read through in its entirety.
