LFP - Sat 7pm cst - Need an easy going role player

LFP - Sat 7pm cst - 5e On a scale of Monty Python to LOTR, we are aiming for a 6-7 on serious RP. We have an In Character channel for "campfire" or "On The Road" chats to RP between sessions.  We are all in our 30s, with kids.. so know your audience. DM is fairly new, so we need someone who isn't gonna get a room with the rulebook whenever something doesn't go as expected: definitely open to discussion after game, but we need easy going/roll with it types. Party is a Fighter/Warlock, Monk (flavored as a bard), and a rogue. We aren't looking to double up on classes (but bard is still on the table). We are all neutral or good. No gimmick character. No paladins, no grave clerics (weird, I know, but you hate what you hate). I'd stick to standard D&D races to better your odds. What I want to know: What kind of character you'd put in an alt history of Faerun in 1495 near Tethyr? What is that PCs backstory? (Can submit multiple PCs, if a backstory is attached) What age range do you fall into? 0 (total noob) to 10 (professional actor): how comfortable are you with RP? (BTW, none of us are amazing at it, so be honest) How long have you been playing? #Amon4428
I'm super interested. I'll post the info your looking for tomorrow!
Sounds good

Sounds like a fun group I'd be interested in! About me - 27 year old guy, married, 1 kid on the way. I was a player in a year long, in person dungeon world group a few years back. Lately I have been DMing 5e in a complete homebrew setting and story for a group of IRL friends where we learned together, but they have lost interest so looking to try something new. With a kid on the way I know I won't have time for DMing like I have been so looking to be a player, DnD is just to much fun to quit IMO. I'd rate myself a 6 on the RP scale, I love to RP but I would not say I'm the best at it, got a lot of practice and had fun doing different races/genders/emotions/etc. as a DM and made it a point to try and talk "in character". Rules wise I generally have gone with making a call (when I was DM) in the moment to keep the story going and then double checking outside of game time to keep the ball rolling so that works fine for me. Characters (Unsure what level you guys are at so keeping backstories simple and adjusting to setting, can adjust as needed to fit with group) 1. Torden Rhun (human/storm sorc) - Only son of a coastal noble with 3 older sisters who from the second he was born was expected to take over the family name. As a child he showed a knack for getting into trouble which did not please his father in the least. He had a nobles upbringing but after showing a intense talent for magic his father planned to send him to the best university in Tethyr to become a wizard and learn the nuances of nobility. Instead he ran away the night before he was supposed to leave for university to find his own way, taking only a change of clothes and some travel food he stole from the kitchen on the way out to try and find his own way in the world away from the repressive noble cultures and his fathers expectations. His first nights out were rough and he struggled to find his way but eventually he fell in with some reasonable folks.... 2. Eran Dawnhammer (Prot. Aasimar/Forge Cleric) willing to consider DMG Aasimar or potentially other race if needed. Eran is the son of master smith and a deva of of the god Gond who was enchanted by his father's mastery of his craft. His father was reclusive but served as a royal smith for the crown of Tethyr and Eran was his de facto apprentice regardless of his heritage, his father treated him like any other boy. When Eran was 15 his father was assassinated by an unknown assailant who was able to cut straight through a masterpiece warhammer his father attempted to defend himself with while Eran was delivering a shipment to the capital. Eran returned, and upon seeing his father's weapon split, realized his father could not have been the best in the world as he always assumed. In his anguish his mother appeared to him and gave him a mission to search the world for the weapon that was capable of such a feat and to stop at nothing to learn how to to create something even better. In his quest for knowledge he quickly realized that such lost and powerful knowledge was in places far to dangerous to go alone and that he was woefully unskilled to even begin his search. So, he applied himself to the first step of his journey wholeheartedly, getting stronger and making friends who could brave those places with him. As a previous #foreverdm I have a lot of other characters in my bank as well but these are some of my most fleshed out and well-fitting I think. Discord is (Dark Storm WS#3122) is you want to hit me up there.
What I want to know: What kind of character you'd put in an alt history of Faerun in 1495 near Tethyr? Gotta say I don't know much of anything regarding the lore of Faerun or any DnD location in general. I largely build characters backstories by doing research on a random location or a location suggested to me by the DM based on the characters interests/race.  What is that PCs backstory? (Can submit multiple PCs, if a backstory is attached) Again this would largely depend on what is meant by the first question which I cant easily answer without further context. I create the backstory based on the setting of the campaign and the role I am going to play within the party. I have played one character in a few different campaigns but their backstory has always dramatically changed each time. Please let me know if you are in need of additional information or if you need me to submit something small just to show I have the creative ability to create an in depth backstory.  What age range do you fall into? I'm 27 0 (total noob) to 10 (professional actor): how comfortable are you with RP? (BTW, none of us are amazing at it, so be honest) I would put myself around 5-6. I like to roleplay and stay within character at nearly all times. Just need more experience and practice doing it.  How long have you been playing? I have been playing on and off for about a year or so
Hi Amon! I'm interested in finding out on whether I'm a good fit for your group. I'm a little older that you all (age 50), it seems, but I don't find that to be a huge issue, personally. Scheduling works, so most will depend on whether our interests and outlook are a decent match for one another. As for me, I'm somewhere in the LGBT+ bracket, so open-mindedness to that is an obvious prerequisite. I'm otherwise, as with your group, a family person (been with my husband for 21 years now) with a background in academia, but a career in consultancy. I'd be happy to go into details in private conversation if you think that would help. :) In gaming, I'm GM more often than player, and on Thursdays I run my own campaign in Faerun (set in the 13th century DR in Impiltur). I'd need to know a bit more about how "alt" the timeline is to make sure that things fit, of course. For instance, did the Spellplague and Sundering(s) take place? Did the miraculous import of dragonborn happen? I could probably come up with a variety of questions along those lines, but for the sake of expediency, I'll offer a first concept that should be relatively neutral to most of such changes, and fits within a Tethyr that I would recognize. Experience-wise, I've been gaming for about 30 years, give or take a few. I'm reasonably knowledgeable about 5th edition, but even within my own game, I tend to focus on a flowing narrative over adherence to the exact rules, so you won't have to worry about me being a stickler for the printed text. With regard to RP, I tend to be about a 9 in how much I care about it, but I'm not an actor. Sure, I will endeavour to be as much in character as possible, and to react from that perspective to the world around us, but I'm not blind to the consequences of my characters' actions, and certainly will take the comfort and preferences of fellow players into account. In that regard, I hope to strike a more balanced view. Besides, we're all here to enjoy ourselves, and sometimes, taking this too serious can harm the overall story. It's a trap I've fallen into, myself, and I'm trying to avoid doing it too many times more. Vidugauja is a member of the Suldusk tribe of wood elves in the Wealdath forest. Having long lived on the narrow peninsula north of Firedrake Bay, he has grown up with an understanding of balance - of the wilderness versus those who would tame the land and it's creatures; of forest and sea; of being rooted versus being of open mind. And as time passed on, he slowly changed. One day, in the aftermath of a fierce storm that swept the coast, a woman came staggering into his camp, wounded and bereft of companions. It took them a while to find a way to communicate, but he did his best to care for her with his woodcraft, while she regained some of her bearing. Eventually, he learned that she was shipwrecked, from a trading vessel fleeing before an attack by the pirates of the Nelanther islands off the coast. Originally from Turmish, she introduced Vidugauja to the ideas of her native land as he made sure she healed. Jalana Pisacar, the women in his care, stayed longer than she absolutely needed to, as they had grown somewhat close over time, but eventually made her way to the Trade Way, and the cities beyond.  To his surprise, Vidugauja followed in her steps not long after, having been kindled with a newfound outlook on life, and the idea that he could make a difference in the world. Being now more than a voice of the forest, he would need to step out of his home to embrace the calling offered to him. In game terms, Vidugauja would be a wood elf druid of the Circle of the Shepherd, or aiming for that if we start at 1st level. He would be a worshipper, in his somewhat heterodoxical way, of Nobanion and Lurue, and looking for a way to grow in his faith by exposing himself to a wider world.
Hello Everyone my name is Matt or Panda is well I go bye. I have personally 3 Years of experience as a player, being one of the people unfortunately never really been able to finish a long ongoing campaign, due to a lot of bad luck on my end, and one Conflict of times. I have also DM a Campaign before & done a few one-shots. I like to think of myself as someone that commits a lot to roleplay, and planning, in campaigns, if I could pick a personal weakness of mine, I say solving puzzles would be my weak point. I like to say i am pretty witty and love getting into Character quiet a bit through the campaigns i had played in and Dm, i am more use to something akin to 60/40 or 70/30, but do not mind more campaigns being Combat heavy. What age range do i fall into: I'm a 25-Year-old Male looking for a game to play in. Sadly one of my Dm's that ran both Saturday and Sunday had to stop running it due to IRL Issues. 0 (total noob) to 10 (professional actor): I would give myself a 7 I love rping so much, it a joy doing voices and everything  Backstory:  I will send you two of them that i have in mind Jai'Khaul  "Jackal"  Silverwell  Half Orc Rouge Mastermind/ Archfey Warlock Belonging to a family of Archaeologist, who lost his family to a tragic fire, that was revealed later on, from an old journal from his grandfather, that suggested foul play, and they were after an ancient relic, being taught by his grandfather in the ways of how to traverse, dungeon, ancient tombs, with also learning the art of self-defense, finding his grandfather's ancient tome, it was the location of an ancient temple, blessed with Deity some sort of Archfey being inside of it, that long ago said to have protected his town, this shrine is forgotten over time, which when he was at his lowest, he traversed through this place, just to find a little bit of help and pay his respects, and without thinking gave her a small prayer, and asked if she would come down to help him through his lowest point, it turned out his voice reached, toward the Archfey woman that, simply referred to herself as Velvet. Giving him a warm embrace, letting him know why things were at the lowest he has ever been, she would be there to give him warmth & to be supported, she would only ask if he did the same for her, he simply nodded and accepted being blessed with some new powers. Jackal takes up his arms and his remaining, last items, departing to maybe start anew, and also, to find some of the answers he seeks. And for my other, it be my Drow Blood hunter if allowed, if not Eldritch Knight Fighter/Celestial Warlock Trained a Soldier his entire life, being adopted & raised in a Military family Alvarez Ignis. Followed his orders his entire life, not knowing why they took him from the orphanage for the longest time. He was constantly haunted by visions, images running through his head, even through his adult life he had these images of things that could have happened, potential events, shadowy images of himself, it sometimes showed his rare images glimpses into the future, or his past in vivid detail, building him to strive towards perfection his craft, to prevent these visions, or a possible future from ever coming true.     Later through his years learning to harness this power, as some form of magic, he was trained by  his Adopted father & the military to learn to harness his Ability, to see if he could control this power he had. He worked tirelessly for years, getting enlisted into the military, working his way up to an officer rank, any spare time he had spent in the study or understanding or magic, though never learning any other form, to research it in a way to help understand this power he had. Knowing that his family was in fact must be keeping him around  for this power, perhaps to harness it, learn how such a thing could work. He kept a relatively close eye  and a distance from most people believing that  people would only use him for his unique form of spellcasting and combat prowess. Only two people he was able to confide  into, and placed a little bit of trust into was a Dwarven Smith Lorn Mithrylborn, who taught him the intricate works of weaponry, and armour, alongside normally being a good source of useful advice  stern but fair, with how he acted towards him, always welcome for the business and to make sure he stayed out of trouble & always liked to give him a little bit of advice  before he went on his way. Alongside with one person that formally used to serve alongside him  in the Knights, but later left  not being able to follow their regulations, and prefered the life of a Mercenary, the Goblin  Riana. Best explained a Wild free soul, that is a force to be reckoned with, a barrel of laughs, rage and mostly drunk off her ass if not eating enough food to feed a platoon, she is a force to be reckoned with as a Mercenary  She was one that was also had her own form of magic one she could never understand herself, but training alongside Alvarez, through their time together & the occasional meetings, they grew something of a close friendly rivalry always still competing to see who will come out on top, and each teaching each other to help control, and master their own weird forms of magic, it is the closest thing Alvarez has to a friend.     One MIssion  6 years ago  Alvarez and his Squadron was to investigate a reported Skirmish that occurred to find out what exactly happened. When he and his men arrived, they found the remains of the battle, bodies riddled on the ground, all that remained was  one gravely wounded male, who crawled his way toward Alvarez and his men. He Pleaded towards him to save his daughter coughing up blood, to try and take her to safety, towards a certain destination, but he could not fully finish his sentence, the man not long for this world, as Alvarez approached  an unconscious girl  lying next to a wagon. Investigating this place, and knowing  even with him and his men basic medical care from him & his men, could not save him, they went to investigate the girl, who later learned to be named Velvet. When she awoke, looking through her hood, seeing her weird draconic like scales and eyes,  it would cause his men  to be confused and panic, thinking of her as some kind of monster, as the men drew  their weapons and were ready to strike. Without a moment's notice, the usual power from Alvarez conjured through an Echo, one of these unrealized versions of himself,  that stood in the way of his men, protecting Nizana getting in a defensive stance to protect her. Looking towards him,  speaking out the words  “Protect… Protect this one, with our lives.. We.. must”   looking bewildered hearing and seeing this display, a portion of what this power of his could do. Alvarez’s echo took  its stance and started swinging at his own men killing them left and right, before seeing this moment, making a decision for himself, he took up his own blade and protected the girl, slaying his men right in front of her eyes. The echo looked and thanked him, before approaching Velvet, doing a small bow towards her. However  before he could celebrate or let his guard down, reinforcements arrived, and he was being overwhelmed by the soldiers, they took a keen interest in his abilities  and with Velvet. Being captured in the end being no match, and exhausted from the overuse of his abilities from using my abilities. Now sent to fight & entertain them in the pits, Alvarez simply bides his time, no matter he must rescue that girl Velvet at all cost. Currently trying to  plan a way to break out of this, but a way to get Velvet out without getting hurt.  As much as he detested it, the only thing could be done is bide, until the perfect moment, shown good place, to get food, money that they needed to survive, to put towards his own funding, of getting himself suited, and finding more knowledge of his own Origins to this power he had. I have a couple of Character Concepts in my head some I wanted to fully go through a long campaign in. (Each i have written up Backstories up on google docs) If you have any questions then you can DM And i cannot wait to hear back through this. If you wish to contact me i do have my Discord is well Pandazwei#9999 Thank you for reading and happy holidays!
Hi Amon, I’m interested in your game if the opening is still available. A little about myself, I’m 30, never married no kids, been playing D&D for about a year now. Very used to tabletop gaming and on your scale of 1-10 maybe a 6 at role playing. What kind of character would I make: recently been thinking about a Half Orc Barbarian (Zealot) with a sailor background named Malik. Backstory is he grew up in an orc tribe off the northern coast of the Sea of Swords. The village raids and plunders all over the coast (very Viking like). Being a half breed he was seen as weaker than the other full breeds. After loosing a fight with the Chieftains son Raigon, he left the tribe lands. Trying to prove to the orc god Gruumsh that he is a worthy warrior. So is looking to find a perfect death to prove himself a true orc.
This sounds very interesting indeed!  What kind of character you'd put in an alt history of Faerun in 1495 near Tethyr? I confess I know little of Faerun history but I'd be happy to play any character needed. So just off the top of my head, how about a half-orc druid? (i like playing unusual combinations rather than the idealized selection)  What is that PCs backstory? (Can submit multiple PCs, if a backstory is attached) He grew up on the streets, having been abandoned by his human parent, until he got press-ganged into a pirate crew. Was fairly successful at it and learned he had an affinity for talking with the sea life. He was told to seek out a druid circle who welcomed him and taught him the craft. What age range do you fall into? Old fart. (53) 0 (total noob) to 10 (professional actor): how comfortable are you with RP? (BTW, none of us are amazing at it, so be honest) 7 How long have you been playing? I played a lot of tabletop D&D (1st ed with some 2nd ed and lots of homebrew) but then married, moved away and had a kid, so haven't played in a while. I have 5th ed books (the main 3: PHB, DMG and MM) but haven't played yet. Also I'm very new to roll20.
im interested.. im not committing to any character or story unless im contacted im 39 been play since i was 12 7-8 on my scale of roll play.. i will likely going to bring a wizard in give your current make up.. wil probably multi class warlock given material allowed..
