Hello everyone! Back in August I posted here to start two new campaigns. I got an amazing response and both campaigns started in September. I am happy to report that I am starting a new one in January as one of the original campaigns is now coming to an end. As a professional DM, I take great pride in what I do, so before we go on with the actual post, let's hear it from some of my players: 'Clearly puts a lot of effort into making a game everyone will have fun playing taking suggestions and including players backstory into the game and always happy to help'- AJ - Half-Orc Monk '... very engaging npcs with many different and unique personalities. The world itself is very interesting and has a lot of potential for exploration and development with time. The dm style is very risk and reward oriented where your consequences are more or less what you make them. By taking challenging risks you are given solid payoffs and rewards. And one doesn't feel forced into following a specific plot which gives a great sense of freedom to the groups choices if they so choose to venture out more...' - Ryan - Tiefling Bard ' Very lively and sometimes hilarious NPCs and a very Alive world that changes and evolves in consequence to our actions as the player...' - Arthur - Human Wizard 'He killed my familiar twice...' - Also Arthur - Human Wizard So, without further ado, I present to you... THE WORLD OF MAR! A tiefling wizard sets sail east towards the magocratic land of Boregast, where she aims to uncover arcane secrets protected by the Violet Council. A dwarf high priest of Lathander, god of birth and renewal, blesses the newborn Prince of the Kingdom of the Sun, the first kingdom in Welmar in over two centuries. A human bard arrives in East Exodia, ready to discover the lands that have banished his ancestors a millennium ago. An elven ranger sends away their hawk to the Sovereign Land of Dawyn, with a hasty note on its talons. The Blue Dragon has risen, and the volcano is erupting. All of these characters exist in the World of Mar along with many others. Whether you are a fearsome half-orc barbarian looking to destroy anyone who challenges you, or a fearful gnomish sorcerer who just wants to be able to control their elemental magic, there is a place for you in this world. Mar is a custom-made D&D5E fantasy setting. The lands are filled with kingdoms, empires, city-states and even republics; wildlands and uncharted seas, legends, myths and rumours. Whether you are a first-time player or a veteran, if you want a fresh, custom-made campaign with a setting that organically develops around you, this is the game for you! THE GAME Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online (Video & Audio) Experience: New/a few years/veteran all welcome Location/Timezone: GMT 0 (London) GMT +7 Schedule: Tuesdays 12.00 or 13.00 weekly (gmt+0) / 19.00 or 20.00 (gmt+7) Roles sought: Up to 6 Players Game style: roleplay, exploration, combat, puzzles (in order of priority) Tuesdays: 12.00 GMT+0 // 19.00 GMT+7 (flexible) I am in London, so I can accommodate most regions. Session 0 is planned for the 2nd week of January. Number of Players: 6 max The maximum number of players for this campaign is 6, but we will start playing if we have 5. ALTERNATIVELY, if you already have a party of 4+ people, we can play without additional players (as long as the party already knows each other). Sessions: We will run WEEKLY sessions. Each session should last 3-4 hours with 1 or 2 breaks. It will be a medium length campaign, in the beginning, running for 12-14 sessions, after which the players and the DM can decide to continue playing. We will use audio AND video communication . Roll20 will be used for battlemaps and combat, to see movement, positioning etc. but the whole campaign WILL NOT run on roll20. We will use DnDBeyond for character sheets (no charge on your side) and Discord for communication. In case the internet connection is not optimal for Discord for everyone, we can use Skype or Hangouts instead. There will be a Session 0 that will last around 2 hours. This game is intended to provide a safe space for all backgrounds and walks of life. Sensitive content will be kept to a minimum and I encourage players to voice their discomfort if anything triggers them. I apply the “I’m not comfortable with…” rule; if a player at any point says this sentence, we stop, reconfigure and carry on, no questions asked. Payment: This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of £15 per session per person, paid through Paypal before each session. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Session 0 is free of charge. Session 1 is 100% refundable. Any session cancelled at least 4 hours in advance can be refunded 100% or the pay can be carried over to the next session. This price is set until December 2021 after which it may be readjusted. THE DM I am Orcun. A 30-year-old professional dungeon master from London. I am a published writer, filmmaker and a PhD candidate at the end of their research. My research focuses on narrative and storytelling in Netflix Originals and I also teach undergraduate level courses in Creative Industries. It is safe to say that stories, telling stories and thinking about telling stories is my life. I have been playing D&D since 3.0 and 3.5 and have gotten into professional DMing with 5e in the last few years. I run custom-made campaigns and am running three groups right now, both adventuring in my main setting of the World of Mar. The reason I am starting a new campaign is that one of these campaigns will end at the end of this year. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS GAME? High fantasy setting. Mystery. Plot twists. Roleplay, exploration, combat and the occasional puzzles. I will try to act out scenes, I will do voices. They won't be the best, but I have very low self-respect, so hopefully you will be comfortable with it and have fun. We start from Level 2, and use milestone levelling. At the end of 12-14 sessions, you should expect to level up 3-5 times. If you want to hack and slash your way through dungeons and/or murder anything in your path, this is not the game for you. If you want to create a half aasimar half tabaxi multiclassing as barbarian warlock cleric with your homebrew subclass, this is not the game for you. WHY PAY FOR THIS GAME? Payment ensures that all parties (including the DM) are invested in the game. Having played as a DM and as a player in both free and paid games, the difference is crystal clear. All maps and battlemaps are custom-made. There are many items, spells, monsters etc. that have been custom-made for your campaign by me. I use a lot of tools for the game that require subscription fees. A portion of the fee goes to making sure all my games are maintained. I make a living from storytelling and this is a form of my craft. Having a fee gets me closer to a career of storytelling (and not doing other things just to pay rent). WHAT DO I EXPECT FROM THE PLAYERS? Respect each other. We are all here to have a good time and nobody is more important/smarter/cooler than the other. Don’t be a rule lawyer. I run games in a very RAW (rules-as-written) way but I have a couple of specific table rules and I tend to ignore/alter some rules occasionally (rule of cool) if I think it fits the story better. Try to be punctual. I understand that some people can’t make it some weeks, that is fine. But when players are consistently 15-20 minutes late to a session, that sucks for everyone else. Don’t sabotage the game. Everyone gets a loner character, but if your character does not agree with anything the party decides, tries to leave the party constantly or picks fights, you don’t really understand the nature of ‘playing together’. GAME SPECIFIC RULES No homebrew content from players except for backgrounds (only with the DM’s approval). I only allow races, classes and subclasses from Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Other races from Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes may be allowed if the DM approves it. The reason for that is, it is very difficult to balance homebrew content, and I can’t guarantee balancing your Half-banshee fallen oathbreaker hexblade-warlock-paladin-monk without breaking the game for others. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I have seen it again and again that usually a player gets too excited about their homebrew on paper, but gets bored of it very quickly after a few sessions. 18+ only. You are paying money for this roleplaying experience and it is safer for me legally, if all of this takes place between consenting adults. If you do have a party that has under 18s, talk to me and we can arrange a game. We use DnDBeyond for character sheets. Your free subscription to DnDBeyond is enough for this game. Any paid content you will need is provided by me. Ideally, all players should have access to Player’s Handbook (and preferably Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) but we can accommodate. We will discuss ideas for your characters etc. but the actual character creation will be done together during Session 0. We roll dice on roll20 or Discord. After a while, once the party gets to know each other you might be allowed physical dice privileges. TO APPLY: You can reply to this post with: Name: Age (over 18 or not): Roleplaying or D&D experience: You do not need to provide details about the character you want to play. We can discuss it later. I will contact you to arrange a short interview to make sure everyone's expectations are reasonable. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask below. Looking forward to seeing you all. Your DM, Orcun.
