Hello, I'm looking to join a game with a strong focus on the characters & story and a minimal focus on damage, builds, and crunch. A bit about me: During sessions I rarely break character and every character I play has their own particular voice, mannerisms, personality, and goals. I prefer when play stays cinematic and in-the-fiction as opposed to in rules-talk (e.g. “I charge toward the bandit, smashing my elbow down on their wrist to knock the weapon out of their hand” vs. “I move 4 squares to *here* and use my disarm special move”). During character creation, I try to establish relationships with the other PCs - being family is great as it immediately creates history and concern, but being old friends, employees for the same (or rival) guild, mentor/apprentice, ex-lovers - anything is better than strangers in a tavern. I try to shift some of the workload off the GM because our hobby can ask too much of them while asking too little of players. Session 0 is great for this, as the players can contribute to the setting/NPCs and make PCs who care about aspects of the world to give a direction to the game. Players can also do simple things too, like reminding everyone when the next session is. I won’t bore you with sample characters. In short, LOTR’s Boromir is much more interesting to me than Legolas (someone who represents the corruptibility of humanity with a redemptive character arc vs. an OP murder machine with a minor racist quirk). Likes: 3-dimensional, flawed characters - for PCs, NPCs, and even ‘villains’. Dislikes: min/maxing, metagaming secrets, and rules lawyering. UTC-6 (central). I’m free most evenings/nights. I’m a mature and reliable player. My downside is that I have high standards and expect more than a beer & pretzels, meme-filled romp. There's more info in my bio if you're curious. Contact me here or in PM and we’ll setup a discord chat to see if we gel.
