[LFP][PAID][5e] The Adventures of Heimland Sandbox Adventure Campaign! [Multiple Groups]

Edited 1609117984
Introduction Hello one and all. You may have seen one of my previous posts last month, but I've officially began running PAID D&D games every week. It's been going really well and I've been chomping at the bit to perhaps grab another six players for a campaign. Let me quickly introduce myself. My name is Sol, I'm a British Gamemaster, and I've been running campaigns for the last several years. I have a background in History, and Drama (An interesting combination), and I'm in my mid 20s. I am writing here today to search for several individuals who would like to embark on a long-term, exciting sandbox campaign where they, the players, are at the helm of the story. I have ran a variety of campaigns, some of which have spanned years, various themes include Egyptian, Norse, High Fantasy, Low Fantasy, Dark Fantasy and the occasional Sci-Fi Campaign. I'm a keen roleplay with a repertoire of various character voices that I can pull out on the fly, I love making maps, writing adventures, developing NPCs, and making travel, adventure, and even towns interesting. I'm definitely the type of DM you'd like if you are interested in owning property, land, or becoming important figures. I've always been one for politics, and I'll always encourage those of you whom are interested to be involved in it. After all, politics can be very lucrative. My Inspiration for my current campaign, Heimland, derives from a few various themes, which I'll reference below: Lord of the Rings, The Witcher, Game of Thrones, the Chronicles of Conan, and Arthurian Legend and Mythos. I'm the kind of DM who thinks fey should be bizarre, alien, and interesting, just for example. I run a small D&D YouTube channel, and if any of you are interested, feel free to check out my page via this link:  My YT Channel What group can I join? I'm glad you asked, check out this orderly list below to determine the current numbers, and games that I'm running. Before you read though, I wanted to mention something to you that you may find interesting. Both of my current parties have opted to be a West-Marches type world, which means that both parties are adventuring in a world at the same time. Whilst one group is in that desert, the other group may be in the sprawling forest. My players loved the sound of it, because all it does it make the world more rich and valued, make it easier for me to create lore, and most importantly, it allows the parties to meet each other, roleplay, and potentially even collaborate on certain quests, adventures, or plotlines in the future. Having the opportunity there is super cool, and if you were to join on our Saturday, or on the new game I'm setting up, that would be a cool option! Campaign (Sundays): Group Name:  Darling's Gambit Number of Players: 6 (Full) Adventure Description:  The adventurers have created, using money from their previous adventure, an expedition of two dozen men, whom are searching for the Lost Tomb of Avra'Kum. This is a Dwarven Ruin from the 2nd Age, which is said to be where the powerful artefact, named the Ataraxia was forged. The adventurers hope to uncover pieces of the story, and perhaps find the Ataraxia, or some other sweet loot along way. That's if, they can avoid the traps, puzzles, monsters and most unfortunately, the curse, that is haunting this place. Party Composition:   Fighter, Fighter, Rogue, Rogue, Cleric, Sorcerer. (It's worth mentioning one of our Rogues is becoming a Warlock pretty soon) Time Run:  We play from 4PM GMT until 10PM on Sundays. It's a longer game, as these players are pretty hardcore. Campaign (Saturdays): Group Name: Undecided as of right now (only on Week 3) Number of Players: 5 (One Slot Available) Adventure Description: The adventurers, in their opening quest, are working alongside an archaeologist who funnily enough has worked with the Sunday Group in uncovering the Forbidden Temple of the Iron God. So far their adventure these last two weeks, the players who overcome numerous traps, and subverted a tribe of Lizardfolk who have took up residence within the Temple proper. The party currently, at the start of next session, being surrounded by dozens of poisonous dangerous snakes, that the players will need to use their might, skill, and brains to overcome. The players hope to find various items, and earn revenue for future ventures, but one player, the sorcerer, is searching for a Tomb named "the Iron Grimoire", which his master, a sorcerer known to many as "The Collector" is keen to acquire. Party Composition: Fighter, Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, Sorcerer Time Run: We play from 4PM GMT until 9PM on Saturday Afternoons. I have both American and European players, just for any clarity. What are we looking for:  This party has everything covered, meaning our sixth player could be quite frankly whatever they would like to be. A recommendation from me would be to play; Barbarian, Monk, Pugilist, or a Wizard. New Campaign (Thursday or Friday): Group Name: N/A Number of Players: 3 (3 Slots available) Adventure Description: I haven't decided what I'll be running on this day, and I love the idea of allowing you guys, the players, to decide what type of story you'd be interested in. Here are some examples and ideas that I like for this third group: A war campaign, where the party either play as the Invaders or the Invaded, a standard adventuring party who wants fame, wealth and success, a group of travelling Noblemen who want to earn their place as Knights & Lords in this Kingdom, or perhaps a group of outsiders who are searching for some form of salvation. Party Composition: To be decided at Session 0, once the official roster is filled. Time Run: This will likely be decided at Session 0, but I'd prefer to run at my normal times. I can ofcourse run a few hours earlier or later at the convenience of players who are overseas. What are we looking for: A variety of players, who want to roll dice, roleplay, and enjoy a good adventure. Character concepts and all of the specifics will be created during Session 0, to have a solid party comp! I would really like to start this group either this week, or next week, so get those apps in if interested. Paid Groups Before we continue, and you become interested in the idea of joining, lets talk about the finer details. My parties are paid groups, as the price is $15 per week, which seems to be the standard for high quality Paid Games on this forum. My players believe I'm worth more, but I appreciate being affordable, especially during this pandemic. I invest heavily in my campaigns, and you can rest assured that your investment into the entertainment that I provide will not stand wavered. I have various books, dynamic lighting, custom maps, dozens of musical tracks, and a variety of optional rulesets that I like to use to make play more exciting. An example is a simple to read pdf for how to use blacksmithing tools to great effect. It's worth noting that each player is  expected  to pay for each session a day prior to the session starting through Paypal or another similar service. This gives me time to adjust, and make sure that the session plan is suited to those who are willing and excited to play. I tend to write story arcs for my players, so I'd hate to waste good time in a situation where a player won't be joining us. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Other Information (Q&A) Q. "Honestly Sol, I like some of what you've posted so far, but I'm not entirely convinced. I've got some questions for you about your campaign that I'd like to know before I commit to joining." A. If this list doesn't help put you at ease, you are very welcome to either contact me via this forum post, and contact me privately if you've got any questions about my game. Q. I would like to know what your world is like? A. My world is rather large, and giving you the entire picture would require more than a few lines of text to fulfil, but I'll give it a bit of a shot. Heimland is a large, sprawling continent set in a time of Religious Turmoil, Political Intrigue, and great adventures. The land is varied in biome, ranging from vast plains, to deep bogs, to scorching deserts. All sorts is found in this world. The people are very mundane, and the idea of magic seems abstract to most. Those who possess the power and skill to harness magic, or even the skill and power to slay such a being is regarded as some sort of hero. The world is gritty, realistic, but so rewarding when push comes to shove. Q. Do you have any homebrew rules? A. I never used to use homebrew rules or systems, but I do now. I think I got tired of how unrealistic, and somewhat dull 5th Edition is. Whilst I love the fact that 5th Edition is streamlined, it's missing certain things that I, and players like me, would really like to see in our games. I give my casters homebrew magic as rewards in Dungeons, I gave my martial characters exploits that give them cool abilities they can use on short or long rests. I'm all about customisation, and if you enjoy being able to customise your character, and play something really fun, cool, and different, I'm your man. There are a few other things, like adjustments to how magic works, and how constitution is used as a stat. But all of my rules are fair, fun, and add much to the game without overcomplicating things, or making things confusing. Q. What race/class restrictions do you have, if any? A.  Because these three campaigns take place in the same World at the same time, you play by the same restrictions as the other groups in a realistic world that makes sense. The only available race choices are: Humans, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Halflings. Be aware that there are 5 variants of human and 3 variants of Dwarves. I believe that less is more, and I like my groups to have a group aesthetic that makes sense. Everyone in both my groups thus far has opted to play a Human, or a Half-Elf, but I'm hoping that someone who applies may play a Dwarf or Halfling to mix things up a bit. Q. What should I do if I'm interested in your game? A. I'm glad you're interested, and I'd love to get chatting at your earliest convenience to get you ready for your first session with me. All I ask is that you post a response on this post expressing your interest. Alternatively, you can always send me a DM with your name, age, time zone, and your Discord Tag, so I can add you and continue things from there.
Testimonial From Players Brodie, who plays Aurelien in my Sunday Group:   One of Sol's players on Sunday. Been part of a pretty regular group for the last year and a half (Abi, above, is another one of them). We go EVERY week, and have only had to replace 1 new player since I joined that year and a half ago; that alone should tell you that even with a bunch of 18+ players, everyone's enjoying it enough that we all make sure our Sundays are always free, and no-one is looking for excuses to leave or miss sessions. He's a great DM and knows how to incorporate everyone in to the game and story. He's good with the build and release of tension, and makes sure that while no reward comes without the effort to earn it, and no endeavour is without risk, there will always be a payoff eventually. He takes a lot of time and effort with you at character creation too to really make sure that your character will have a clear sense of place and purpose within the world (not just hurr durr I'm an adventurer, cus money), while still giving you a measure of freedom to make/play what you want. I've played in games where there was no challenge, or players were overwhelmed with easy rewards. Similarly I've played in meat grinder games where it feels like the DM just wants to torture and control players. Sol's campaigns tend to toe the line very nicely between those two, making sure that every venture is suspenseful, requires engagement and thought on the players parts, but has payoffs in some way for success and creativity. 10/10 would sign away every Sunday Evening again. Abi, who plays Ophelia in my Sunday Group: "I've been a part of Sols games for a little over 2 years now, and prior to this i had very little knowledge about D&D. He was very quick to show me the ropes and explain how D&D could be more than just a game. His campaigns are well thought out, and are very in depth. They aren't just stories, its like taking part in a movie. Sol has a way of incorporating each and every character into his games, making them feel like a part of a thriving world that they were actually born in, instead of just a token on a shoddy map. Character creation is thorough, and makes it easy for you to build a character that you can enjoy playing.  Every single detail leads to a bigger plot; like a road with many twists and turns, Sols games are a thrill ride, and will leave you feeling nothing less than impressed.  I f you're looking for a game that will not only be fun, enjoyable, worth your time and money, then Sols games are for you. There isn't another DM out there that will give you a fulfilling story and a fun experience like this."
Off to bed, will get around to any potential applicants tomorrow. Can't wait!
