Adding Clickable Options to Journal / Handout Pages

Hello helpful forum! After reading the macros article and the adding macros to Journal/Handout article, I thought I was able to work it out...but I am struggling. I have a handout for an NPC that the players can control.  To make it easy for them I wanted to add clickable options for saves/attacks to just speed up combat.  I am using a handout vs a character sheet because we have a very involved character sheet for the game and the NPC only needs a simple stat block. However, when I added the macro (via the macro page) and then added the macro to the journal (used add link, typed `#macro) it works perfect for me (rolls dice in the chat ect.) but when my players click the link it just types #macro into the text. As DM I thought my macros would work for anyone ...as if I was setting them up for the table to use.  Any idea how I fix this? Thanks!

DM's are given the ability to show or hide macros from players - first thing to check is this field when you open up the edit window for the macro, which defaults to not visible:

And just to allay any worries: players can use the macro, but cannot edit it.
