Can our intrepid party finally clear Cathal's Doom mine and bring a source of minerals and a sense of peace to those in grief at the fall of Cathal?
Bring it on!
12 Highsun After a brief rest, we pushed deeper into the mines and could hear a muffled sobbing. While the frontline moved in to investigate, I swung around a side tunnel to flank the giant spider that seems to have made this place it’s lair. With the power of Bahamut on my side, along with Murtagh and Drago , the beast was soon dispatched. Looking around though the party were beset by swarms of tiny spiders! Having put the last of them down, we tended to a terrified child called Lyla. Seems she had been caught by these beasts. Freeing her, she didn’t seem entirely comforted by the presence of Bruisetooth ! We barely had time to regroup before we seemed to be accosted by more spiders… it seems maybe Teres had somehow alerted them while looking at the chest she’d found. She seemed to hurt herself too, I should follow up with her to see if her vision was impaired somehow… Another giant spider stormed into the room and bore Murtagh straight into the pit, as they tumbled down, we were accosted by swarms. The spider emerged from the hole and took a chunk out of Drago ’s ear, I wonder if that’ll dampen or fuel Uklah ’s desires? As we managed to take down the larger foes, the tide almost turned against us but Aoibhinn threw herself into the fray to help save Drago and the combined efforts of the two of them with Teres managed to seal off one tunnel while Bruisetooth slammed into a swarm in the second tunnel. Uklah ’s darts finished off the last of the stragglers.   We could hear movement in the pit. I worry that Murtagh might still be alive but Aoibhinn ’s quick scout of the hole indicated there were many, many enemies festering down there. We’ve decided to rest up and consider an assault tomorrow…. 13 Highsun Lyla is gone… she seems to have snuck away in the night? I hope she’s OK? Another check of the hole and Aoibhinn is certain there are too many for us to handle. I cannot be certain Murtagh is dead but I also cannot risk certain death for the team based on Aiobhinn ’s report. Bahamut forgive me but I cannot be sure and there is no way to check without risking more death. Having cleared the rest of the mine, we headed back to the surface to finally lay Cathal’s body to rest. Uklah performed a wonderful ceremony but the main surprise was a very moving song from Aoibhinn . She’s a fierce warrior but there’s clearly a softer side. Having bid farewell to Cathal, we decided we’re heading back to Hope but stopping off to investigate the camp fires we saw before entering the mine. There’s a group of strange Elves camped out at the abandoned keep. Teres and Uklah scouted the ruins and seemed to engage in conversation. It did not go well based on what happened next… these Elves attacked us while we were looking for shelter! Luckily Uklah managed to help us beat a hasty retreat and we settled in for a night in the swamp. 14 Highsun We’ve checked out another giant pillar in the swamp. This one had engraved tentacles around the base and most of the party seemed afraid to approach… this is not a good sign. We’ve marked it and headed home, I need to get head out to find the Miller’s daughter who’s missing…

12 Highsun We moved on, after I'd been properly patched up by Uhklah  and Alexandria . I owe them both drinks when we return back to Hope and this is all over with. I lead us forward, inching through the darkness with Drago's  lamp to guide my eyes. Upon hearing crying, I urged us forward, and found a child, Human, wrapped in webbing. I rushed to her aid, a foolish move, and tore her from the trappings of the spiders, only to signal our presence. Although we were unprepared, we held our own against the monsters that attacked us; some kind of undead created from the horrific death of being eaten by these spiders. And worse, each one we felled was filled with more of the little bastards, in whole swarms. We won, but Teres went down after triggering a trapped chest, and we decided to lay low in another chamber and fully regain ourselves before pressing on. The girl we rescued, as it turns out, was named Lyla , and was not used to non-Humans. I allowed Alexandria to tend to her. 13 Highsun The next day, or so it felt, we woke to find Lyla gone! Where and when she'd slept out, I'm not sure, but I fear for her safety, given all we've seen here, and the water she'd need to travel through full of those frogs in order to get back out. Returning to the chamber to properly scavenge the treasures remaining from past victims, we found a good number of items, including the Spider Seal , which we suspect may be something to do with the pillar we found days ago. We also found another of the greater spiders, which took Murtagh  from us before we could pull him back. After Ay   Ey  Cathal's sister looked down into the pit, she confirmed that not only did more Mummy's await, but an even bigger, more hideous spider lay in wait over Murtagh's  still form. There was nothing we could do to save him with what we had, but I swear to come back for him when I'm better prepared. Leaving the mine behind us, empty and safer to use once more, we put Cathal  properly to rest. His sister sang a song as Uhklah  performed a holy rite, and the rest of us said words of honour and kindness towards our departed brother. On our return journey to Hope, we investigated a fallen fort that Teres  had seen during our second attempt on the mines. It was full of elf-like slavers, who set upon us not too long after realising we were about. With the party at a disadvantage, Uhklah  used her magic to hide us from our pursuers, and we rested in the swamp that night. I do not condone slaves, and will have to return here as well to put this right. 14 Highsun Another pillar found, this one baring some form of eldritch markings, including hideous tentacles. Just being near it played with our minds, nearly costing us Uhklah  as she wandered into the open tendrils of a monstrosity that promised us wonders. I do not trust such things, and with Teres  aid, we hooked Uhklah  from a distance and made hasty our retreat. Returning to Hope victorious, the smith rewarded us for our efforts, and we pooled our resources to have the items of value we'd found identified. Along with some handsome Mithril armour, which we decided to sell, we found a Direstone Dwarven Pick among the loot, which I took for myself. It will be a fine tool, and its qualities will surely come in handy. I rest now, waiting for Hope to send me something new to suit my skills. I feel my strength grow, and I have my new brothers and sisters in arms to thank for it.
Love it!

12 Highsun Alexandria patched up BT (aka Bruisetooth ). I couldn't help notice that Uklah eyeing up Drago with more hunger in her eyes than usual. Our rest was short as we heard the sounds of crying coming from deeper in the mine. On closer inspection we found a young girl caught in webbing (strange). As we released her ( I didn't catch her name) we were attacked by spiders and mummies and shit. They were all over me and Drago - who was downed, not before being crowned 'Spider Slayer". Uklah also tasted meat again - the change in her behaviour is most amusing. We survived the fight and found a CHEST...and there is some people who maybe alive and trapped in webbing (but who cares). In my haste I forgot to check to see if the chest was trapped (all the good ones are). Next thing I know I wake up and bloody  Drago has already gone and opened it. Oh also I may or may not have alerted more spiders whilst getting retrieving chest. Murtagh went down into the spider pit somehow (unlucky bastard). More swarms came for us after that. I'm so happy I got a chance to incinerate some with a Molotov cocktail.  When the fighting stopped Aoibhinn checked out the spider hole, when she came back up, she was pale and spoke of horrors below (NOPE).  13 Highsun The crew needed a rest after brushing with death. That little girl disappeared in the night (I knew she was suspicious! No one else believed me). We went back to collect our spoils, which I now have to share (I convinced them to give me the gems-suckers). Interestingly we found a seal that will fit the spider alcove on the first pillar we discovered. Soon my love, soon I will open that pretty chest of yours;  I digress. Leaving the mine, we held a ceremony for Cathal , not my thing but Aoibhinn sang a touching song (Almost as good as yours Bud).  With time to kill, we set off to the site of an old fort I noticed on the way. Scouting out the place, it is inhabited with strange elves. Pale and ghastly looking. Not long been there by the looks of things. There is also a trapdoor to the south in the fort, I wonder what is down there?  Sadly we were spotted, and again Alexandria tried to parlay with the enemy (who turn out to be slavers; lovely). They overpowered us quickly and we booked it. BT grabbed me and slung me over his shoulder, not what I asked for but my feet where starting to hurt. Need to thank Uklah for aiding our retreat.  14 Highsun With one last day of exploration we decided to investigate yet another pillar. This one was frightening; I couldn't go near it, yet it was so inviting. Uklah approached closer to the pillar and this disgusting tentacle monster rose up. Needless to say we made a retreat. Back in hope we made a tidy profit for our little adventure, especially me taking 10% of the gem profits (cannot be too greedy).

Patrol Report (2 of 2) Patrol composition:  Uklah, Alexandria, Teres, Aoibhinn, Bruisetooth, Drago, Murtagh Mission:  A) Return to Ironfist Mine, locate areas of interest along the way                  B) Clear mine of hostile contacts                  C) Locate Thunder Iron Time of departure and return:  Depart - 10 Highsun.  Return - 15 Highsun Areas of interest: Ironfist mine, Old Fort, Tentacle Obelisk Route Taken:  Ironfist Mines - Old Fort - Tentacle Obelisk - Hope Enemy Contacts:  Ironfist mines - 1 Tomb spider and 3 web mummys with spider swarms inside each - all eliminated.                                 Ironfist mines - (additional contact) - 1 giant spider and 5 spider swarms - all eliminated                                 Cavern underneath Ironfist mines - 1 even larger tomb spider with numerous web mummys - combat not initiated.                                 Abandoned Fort - 4+ Shadowfey Elves and 1 shadow mastiff  - none eliminated (tactical retreat from contact)                                  Tentacle Obelisk - 1 giant tentacle monster (unknown enemy type) - combat not initiated                                Casualties:  Murtagh Mission Outcome:   A) Success                                    B) Success                                    C) No thunder iron could be located within this mine Recommendations:  Ironfist mines have now been cleared, however the entrance to the caverns below must be sealed to prevent further incursions. Would recommend returning to the caverns at a later date with a better prepared party. Personel Reflection:   Another casualty. Murtagh was a skilled warrior, he did not deserve such a horrific death.  I lost an ear during our battle with the spiders. No matter, I was born with a spare. Thanks the gods for  Alexandria's   healing (or rather  thank   Bahamut). If it weren't for the bravery of all my companions I surely would have fallen in that infernal place.  Slavers in the abandoned fort. I despise slavers. It is unfortunate that we encontered them at dusk, when the environment favoured the enemy. I feel we would have had the advantage if we had returned during daylight, but the party decided it would be best to explore other locations. So be it.  When I next return to that fort I will be ready. The creature we encountered at the obelisk filled me with dread. I think I heard one of my companions call it a Droth. I'm glad we decided to retreat, the beast was clearly beyond our abilities.
Love it!
Chamber of the Leader We've wandered eventually to bigger chamber from were we could hear crying which appeared to come from one of the cacoons. We've followed the cry for help and bursted into the chamber full of those hideous spiders and web -mummies (?). Anyway, we've defeated those abominations and freed the girl that happend to be the owner of the voice that we've followed to get here. Teres' eyes spotted a chest in the corner and proceeded to unlock it it without a second thought which lead to her loosing conciousness. It wasn't long before another wave of spiders rushed from the furtherst nooks of the mine. As quickly as we've welcomed Murtagh , we had to bid him farawell just as quick for he got rushed by one of those nasty beasts and dragged into the hole in the ground. After an encounter ended, I've looked down the hole from which Murtagh was screaming for a while after he was dragged in there, and oh boy, I'm not going in there at least not now. He's done for anyway. At this point he's already in the process of dying so we won't risk any more casulties to save a corpse. The Funeral The girl has disappeared when we were sleeping but whatever. One problem less. to take care about. When we woke up, we've decided to leave the mine since it should be all clear by now except that hole with army of spiders, web-mummies and some fuckin' abomination on steroids which I assume is their boss. When we got to the entrance of the mine, we've paid our respects to my little brother (I guess they really liked him if they troubled themself to send him off properly into the afterlife) and I've sang the song from our homeland (if I can call it that way) for the fallen warrior. After everyone said what they had to say, we left in the general direction to Hope. Not so 'Good' Evening On our way we've decided to check out the castle that we were suspecting was abandoned but it appeared that it's not acctualy. We got attacked by strange kind of elves that were pretty good at fighting at night so I've ordered a retreat BUT AGAIN those fools have no idea when you should not tempt the fate and just fall back. Instead they had to get quite a beating before they've finally listened to me. That's not the place that should be invaded at night if we don't want to die due to putting ourselves to such a disadvantage. We've ran into the forrest and found a spot to rest not worrying about getting invaded thanks to Uklah 's skills in covering tracks left behind. The next day on our last day before retuning to hope, we've decided to take a look at one of those strange pillars but it wasn't long before we've changed our plan and ran off as the disgusting ooze creature lashed at us with it's slimy tentacles. Thankfully rest of the day was uneventfull and we've reached our destination without any more troubles.
