Hello all! I’m looking to start a biweekly (once every two weeks) Icewind Dale game. I'm hoping to meet some cool people by setting this up. Just so you can get an idea of who I am: I'm 21 and live on the west coast of the USA. I've played D&D (mostly DM'ing) for about 7 years now. I'm a very visual kind of person - I studied digital art in college for 3 years and I try to paint a clear picture in my players' heads with my descriptions. I'm not white and I'm not straight, and if you have a problem with either, click off now. With that out of the way, I'm going to list some prerequisites for my players. I require that you: Are polite about scheduling. When I say this, I mean I need at least a day's notice in advance before cancellations, and I would appreciate it if you kept on the ball about availability and communication. Don't min-max your shit. I'm a forgiving DM in that I don't like TPK'ing and I don't target or actively try to kill my players, so there's no need. I'm also relatively generous with how I do stat-rolling (as below). So do not come to me asking if you can do a sorcadinlock or the hyperspeed tabaxi roguemonk. Don't metagame. I'm fine if you've played ID:RoTF before, but learn to appreciate a thing called dramatic irony and keep your pipe shut about what monster you know is behind what door, or what trap your character doesn't know is where. Don't do a meme build. I'm okay with moment-to-moment jokes and riffs, but overarching, long-lasting concepts like "weed druid" or "murder robot" if you plan to do no character development and have no depth are out. No. Don't shit on other players. There's a thin line between making a joke about a bad roll and shutting another character or, even worse, another player down time and again. Don't be a bigot. Don't shit on people for being women, being transgender, being nonbinary, being not-white, having neurodiversity, etc. Are able to use Roll20 for sheets/game/dice in combination with Discord for voice calling. Assuming you qualify after all of that (which I hope isn't too hard), here are the guidelines to making a character: Start at level 1. PHB, MToF, XGtE, SCAG, WGtE, TCoE material are all acceptable for character creation. If you have a UA you'd like to use, you can list it as a first preference but you must have one of the previous sources posted as a possible second option in case I decide not to allow it. I judge UA on a case-by-case basis. You can use one of the following ability score arrays, and you can lower any ability score you want (but not raise any): A: 16, 15, 14, 10, 10, 8 B: 16, 14, 13, 13, 10, 8 C: 16, 16, 10, 10, 8, 8 Finally, if all of this checks out to you, here is what I'd like for you to post if you're interested in joining: Preferred OOC Name Preferred Pronouns D&D Experience Anything of note you'd like to tell me Discord info (username#1234) Character concept*, including: Character Name Character Class Character Race Character Ability Scores Character Alignment Character Backstory Anything else about the character you'd like to tell me *Note that the first character concept might not be what you end up playing because of party roles and whatnot, but I'd still like to see what you can write to gauge your character-writing. Thanks for your consideration for reading this far! If I like the cut of your jib, I'll add you on Discord, so keep your eyes peeled.
