Edited 1610081519
Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Welcome to Waterdeep, the Crown of the North, where a wondrous tale of urban adventure is about to unfold. Our story begins with the gathering of adventurers at the Yawning Portal Inn and Tavern. Volothamp Geddarm, the famous explorer and raconteur, has a quest for them — one that entangles the characters in a bitter conflict between two nefarious organizations. If the adventurers complete his quest, Volo rewards them handsomely. Yet a much greater prize lies hidden somewhere in the City of Splendors, waiting to be claimed. You may have visited Waterdeep before, but not like this. Clever lads will respect the city's rules, while those who get on the city's bad side are in for a rough time, as the City of Splendors is home to some of the most powerful figures in Faerûn. A city full of intrigue and conspiracy, Waterdeep's seen it all. This revamped module will put the players front and center of a struggle within the city, where multiple factions are vying for the secret key to the enigma that lay inside Waterdeep's very walls--some may be for a good cause, and others for more nefarious reasons. Will you take a side with one of the factions to assist them with seeing their goals met? Or will you chart your own course through this rat race of subterfuge and conspiracy to make a name for yourself with this once-in-an-era opportunity? This game starts the characters at level 1 and during the course of the adventure path the heroes will reach levels 6 or 7. The campaign will be played weekly, however the duration of the campaign can stretch anywhere between 15-30 sessions based on how much content our players want to delve into in the City of Splendors. An unanimous group decision to continue the campaign into higher levels may result in an extended campaign into another published module. Gorgeous maps and tokens, exciting soundtrack, Pro roll20 account with dynamic lighting, and API scripts. DM with 6 years of experience. Game Information ★ Schedule: Weekly, Wednesdays at 8:00 PM Central (UTC-6 or -5 depending on Daylight Savings) ★ Game Length: 3-hour sessions. ★ Pay to Play: $10 USD/player each session via Paypal. I've been playing and Game Mastering D&D for almost 6 years. I've been playing D&D 5e since it released, and I am very well versed in the rules. I've been using Roll20 for 2 years now, with almost 2000 hours logged, dynamic lighting access, API scripts, custom macros, and the skill to use them. As someone with Graphic Design experience, I am able to create custom miniatures, maps, and materials for the games I run. Due to my work background with Professional Development, teaching others new skills is something I am very comfortable with (Like D&D and how to use Roll20). I also enjoy running 25-hour super games as fundraisers for the Extra Life charity. In the past 2 years, I have helped raise over $8,000 for Children's Hospital Networks. My goal as a game master is to ensure each and every player "at the table" is having fun. Together we will build stories you will be retelling for the rest of your life. Why Paid vs Free? As someone who's personally participated in several paid games as a player myself, and gone through the difficulty of finding players as a DM to be able to stick around for a free game online, I find that when there's literal investment from everyone in the party, it leads to a much healthier, more focused game that people put a lot of dedication into. In my experience, the most satisfying and fun campaigns I've been happy to be a part of were all ones I paid to be a part of. It's all too common that online games are more prone to have players not be as invested in the campaign's success, and either miss sessions often or drop out without any word. Unfortunately, D&D is a game that can only give its players as much as they want to commit to its success. I hope this will give you an idea and hopefully help you understand my decision to make it a paid only game. Player Testimonials "I’m in two of Vilify's campaigns, and playing alongside him in another. Vilify will bring a life to the campaign with great voices, a great amount of dedication, and a bunch of fun sprinkled in. I’d recommend newer and veteran players to his games. He puts on the time as a DM to make sure everyone is enjoying the game. His ability to improv with allowing things to happen with pure chance according to the dice make every session interesting. He's always open to hearing someone out as well. Overall he’s a great DM that takes the time out of his day to help us all have fun playing D&D." -Dawson "I think Vilify's a really fun DM with all the voices he gets into and the atmosphere he conveys. I feel more engaged with the campaign each session. Each NPC feels like a real person I'm interacting with. Those roleplay moments along with the fun times make for a great campaign I'm glad to be a part of." -Douglas "Vilify is an enjoyable and well prepared DM that handles a great, realistic approach to D&D. He's adaptable to whatever situation your party has put yourselves in and makes every session a blast for everyone." -Kyle "When I first joined a campaign Vilify was running, I knew next to nothing about D&D. Over the many months I've played in two of his campaigns and being around for some of his prep work, I can confidently say that he is a great DM. Vilify shows patience for all types of players, creates a relaxed and fun environment for everyone involved, and puts immense amounts of effort into every session. I personally love his ability to role-play anything out, create realistic and detailed characters, and allow us to genuinely have fun with each and every interaction." -Emily S. "Vilify is a great DM, all three campaigns I have been in of his were always efficient, fun and never ill-prepared. He always roleplays every character and creature really well and always makes me feel immersed in the campaigns, especially with the way he details events and actions there is never a dull moment. He's also a really great teacher and even helped me become a DM myself. ★★★★★" -Ryan Player Expectations ★ This game is open to anyone interested in playing! Hi Vilify, My name is Jake (he/him), I'm from Canada and on Eastern Standard time. I am very new to tabletop games. Always wanted to play, and finally was able to join a local group that was supposed to start the beginning of this month, however we have been put into quarantine so everything is delayed. So in the past month since starting this journey all I have been doing is creating characters and trying to get an understanding of mechanics. Rpgs are my favourite type of console game (Witcher/Elder Scrolls/Fallout). I haven't any experience with DnD beyond what I have stated, so I can't really say what parts of the game I enjoy most or least. I created this Roll20 account specifically to reply to your post, which I saw on Reddit. As far as conflicts go, I would defer to the DM as I have little experience, but I would hope that they are attempting to solve whatever conflict arises in a fair and equitable manner. 9pm (my time) on wednesdays should be no issue, nor should the weekly cost. My internet connection should be strong, and I do have a headset/mic combo that I have used for my xbox that I could make work on the pc. Beyond that, I don't believe there is anything else that I need to say other than I very much appreciate the opportunity to try out the game, and I hope that me joining your group works out for both of us! Like I said, I have a few characters that I have created recently. I would be interested in playing a Halfling Stout Paladin named Corrin Goodbarrel. In the local game that is postponed, the DM told us to create level 5 characters, so I would need to rework his stats, but Corrin is a Guild Artisan Brewer. Several years ago, while returning from the pub he stumbled into a ceremony of Bacchus, and was awoken several hours later by a maenad who informed him that while inebriated he pledged himself to spreading the light of Bacchus to the world. I plan on him taking the Oath of the Ancients at lvl 3, and playing as Chaotic Good. I am also working on a personal code of ethics for Corrin that would be Bacchus related (such as forgiving any action done while inebriated, and never refusing a sexual advance). In a nutshell I want Corrin to be played as a fun character who enjoys a pint and a good time, willing to listen to your problems like a wise bartender, and occasionally goes on a raucous bender in the name of his Patron. I picture him as a mounted paladin - probably on a dog, but a cat if possible would fit more with the Bacchus theme. I'm assuming that I would have to wait until later in the campaign to acquire a steed though. I do have a few other characters built as well, but one I am saving for the irl game. If you'd have me participate, but Corrin doeant suit your campaign let me know, and I'll go over some of the other characters I've created. Anyway, pleased to make your acquaintance. I'm not sure how Roll20 works for responses, but I am also reachable on Discord - I'm Phillip#2253. Cheers!
Update: We currently have one or two more slots available for this campaign, and I will be hosting an additionally free Session 0 geared for my players towards explaining the setting the campaign takes place in, background information, and assistance with character creation for each of my players during a time slot that they're all available. If you're brought into the party and still cannot make it to the Session 0 before next Wednesday, I'll take time out to help bring you personally up to speed between now and then.

What name do you wish to be called, and what pronouns do you prefer? Hello, hello! Pleasure to make your virtual acquaintance, my name is Caleb Pakeman and I use he/him pronouns, I am an experienced player and a beginner DM. ★ What is your experience with tabletop RPGs? I have a small wealth of experience with DnD 5E as a TTRPG, besides this I am unfamiliar with others, though I am always interested in trying! I'm a huge fan of RPG's ranging from MMORPG's like Guild Wars/2, ESO or games like Divinity Original Sin 2, Dragon Age and Dark Souls to name a few. ★ What aspects of D&D do you enjoy the most? I really enjoy good RP, but combat will always be my first love, I enjoy making characters that are mechanically sound (or flawed) as well as RP. ★ What parts of D&D do you prefer to spend less time on? Tough question considering I enjoy the wealth of experiences that DnD provides, if anything it would be moments where gameplay/narrative does not drag on too long past its desired point, considering each of these sessions will be 3 hours (which is shorter than I am used to). ★ What is your experience with roll20? The campaign that I run (SKT merged with RotFM) is run explicitly on Roll20, I am very familiar with it. ★ Have you played or read this module or any other modules by WotC? I have heard great things about this module from the players perspective without any spoilers, simply that the RP is fantastic. I am familiar with SKT and RotFM as I DM them. ★ Are you playing in any other games right now? I am currently playing in a long-term campaign based in the OotA module. ★ If you are playing in another game, how long has that group played for? We have been playing on and off since 2019, sometimes it's once a week, once a month or every couple of months depending on the DM's availability as we are all university students, we are level 7 currently. ★ Conflicts between players, including the DM, happen. How do you think conflict at the table should be dealt with? I believe that as a DM you have the final say, the player can simply voice their perspective and whilst that can influence your decision, it is up to the DM to make the final verdict. If a player can't accept that, perhaps the group isn't right for them, or they can have private conversations with the DM later to make sure they are on the same page. No rule lawyer players please haha, rule of cool. If player's have disputes out of character, I would try and find a quick solution to resolve it, and if that isn't possible I would try and resolve it outside of game time. ★ What do you want to get out of a game of D&D? To have an adventure that sparks a roller coaster of emotions within the game, creating a fun story for all involved. I am also interested in learning from a seasoned DM how they run their games so that I can learn to be a better DM for my table! ★ Will you be able to attend weekly? Are you committed to being part of a long campaign? Depending on what the group dynamic is, and how we play together, I would be very interested in committing to a long term campaign - if it turns out that I am not a great fit, that is also okay! ★ Will you be able to make weekly payments? Yes, that is not a problem. ★ What country and time zone are you in? I currently live in Oslo, which is one hour ahead of UTC time. ★ Do you have a good internet connection and a good microphone? I use discord to both play and DM games, both are excellent. ★ Is there anything else you want to tell me? I am hearing impaired in both ears, which means it is likely I will ask people to repeat themselves! Also, a friend of mine whom is a beginner DnD player is interested in playing, we can't play together currently due to group dynamics in other campaigns but would love to play together in the world you are creating! His name is Sean Kealy, he should post here shortly. In terms of character, I have a slew to choose from, I have a couple that I'm particularly excited to play (have been itching to play a Gloomstalker Ranger or Hexblade Warlock) but depending on what the party composition is currently, I would happily not tread on anybody's toes! I look forward to hearing from you, and if the party is full already, I wish you well on your Adventure's in Waterdeep! You can reach me at Noble Orius#3728 should you wish to get in touch! Edit: My friend has been having problems with posting on the forum sadly! So I figured I would include it here just in case: Sean (He/Him) has played 1.5 sessions of DnD so very new, a lover of RPG's which is one of the reasons we became friends in the first place (often play steam games together when we aren't busy with life/other things), and generally a really nice guy. He doesn't recall if he played in a module or homebrew but it wasn't for long so he doesn't remember much. Sean prefers combat but enjoys RP as much as the next person. He hasn't used Roll20 before but is familiar with gaming UI's so I imagine he would pick it up quickly. In terms of conflicts he believes that conflicts are a shame as they take away from the enjoyment but like you mentioned they do happen, he likes to resolve them quickly and allow for the enjoyment of the game to continue, the DM having the deciding vote. Weekly commitments and payments aren't an issue for Sean, he's really excited to play alongside other people online to bridge that social gap that we have all been lacking, and the level 1 start should be a nice clean slate for everybody. Sean lives in the UK (my country also, I miss it a lot!) so the time zone won't be an issue (GMT/UTC). His internet connection is strong (uses Ethernet like myself) and has a decent headset and mic along with webcam if so desired. He has a character called Lilliana (tiefling sorcerer, super cool idea) that he would love to adapt to your campaign, as he didn't manage to play much of her before, she was level 8 before, but the idea of everybody growing together from level 1 is a really cool idea. Though if need be he is also comfortable catering towards the party in session 0. You can reach him at: Sean1237#1237

Hey there, my name is Evan and I have been itching to play a 5e game for at least a year. Unfortunately due to my living situations playing in person has never been viable. I am very new to most systems on roll20 but am willing to learn. Honestly im a bit apprehensive about payed vs free games but your claim that the invesment improves things overall does seem to justify. Any suggestions or updates would be appreciated. Edit : my discord is Vexorous#9265 Thanks for your time.
