Lady Paper gets excited that the Illuminate is real! Jeff
Smith explains that Demoreans are a race of time travelers from a parallel
dimension working on changing Earth’s history to mirror their own. Conquest by
conversion.
The Illuminate is, apparently, a group that Corky started
and is the absolute commander of. The Time Masters encountered him only once
pastward, but after his death. He hasn’t been seen since but they are sure that
he is out there…somewhere.
They decide that they need to get the book with the time
machine plans back from Corky so they can try to modify it so that clothes can
be transported. They know where Corky will be roughly in 1776 (the mission he
apparently died on) so the Brigade thinks that is a good time to intercept him.
September 10, Monday 2018
It is decided that Elizabeth
will return to 2039 and get the instructions on how to fix the aim of the Time
Machine.
A Russian immigrant going by the name Mistiel shows up and
requests membership. Paladin gives the eight foot tall super strong metahuman a
quick verbal interview and then contacts Pearl Ivy. Pearl performs a search of police and
INTERPOL records to see if he is wanted for any crimes. He come up clean. Mistiel
also agrees to the licensing agreement. Pearl
sends over the normal contacts. Mistiel signs and become the latest member of
the Brooklyn Brigade.
At noon Elizabeth’s
future team opens the door for her. Constable wants her to take some plants
with her to see if living vegetable matter will transition. If it does they
have a way to move cargo into the past. She steps through and vanishes, the
plants she carried fell to the floor. An hour later she returns with a strip of
microfilm with the modifications outline on it. They take the plans to Antonia
(Toni), Jeff, and Dan to make the changes. They say it will take a couple of
days.
They make good use of the time they have. Constable asks
Pearl to see if PRIMUS will loan them a weapon small enough that he can carry
into the past but powerful enough to actually be useful. He selects a wrist
mounted MT-05-P Field Tactical
Theta-ray Projector that could be easily collapsed and held in his mouth.
Elizabeth
tells the group that her mom, Bonnie, before the war and the governments
seizure of most of the wealth, was loaded. That her inheritance financed the
Time Masters war against the Illuminati and the Demorean time meddlers.
Toni helps Elizabeth
gets 24 guinea, four for Paladin, Constable, Kismet, Mistiel, Iktomi, and Lady
Paper. In that way they won’t be empty handed when they reach 1776.
September 12, 2018 Wednesday
The modification are finished, the group equipped as well as
possible, and they are ready. They select April 30, 1776 for their arrival time
at 10PM.

10PM They select the South East Square for the arrival spot.
It is wooded, in Philadelphia,
and close to Market Street
where Thomas Paine is the editor of Pennsylvania Magazine. They know that Corky
is (supposedly) arriving May 1 to prevent the Demoreans from altering Paine’s
writings that reflected the core beliefs of the colonists. (It ahs been said
that without Paine’s writings and Franklin’s
diplomacy the revolution would have failed.)
Having the when, where, and why all they have to do is go
back and wait.
With the exception of Mistiel (now calling himself Bear)
everyone who appears is momentarily stunned by the rapture of moving through
time. Bear is not immune to the effect but his massive constitution prevented
him from succumbing to the effect. The moon is full, the air is cool but not
cold. It has rained recently.
Iktomi quickly weaves a few bags and briefs for coins and
modesty. Paladin and Constable decline as Constable has a plan. Given Iktomi’s
appearance it is decided that he should try to remain unseen until he gets
clothes including a large hat or at least hooded cloak to conceal his arachnid
resemblance.
At the first house they reach Constable knocks on the door.
When it is answered he tells the person that he and his friends are Mennonites from Allentown journeying to Philadelphia in search of work to help fund
their mission to bring god to the savages in the west. They were robbed by
Rebels who took everything they possessed, even their clothes. He introduces
himself as Adam and Paladin as James.
Alec
Potts and his wife Mabel take them in and give them blankets. They send their
son Young Joseph (age 10) to fetch the Constable. Constable/Adam asks for more
blankets for the rest of their party. Mabel fetches the blankets.
Constable/Adam
and Paladin/James return to the group and hand out the blankets. Iktomi puts
the blanket over his head to hide his face and spinnerets. They travel to the
Potts home where they are appalled that the Rebel thieves stripped a woman!
Introducing herself as Ruth Kismet is led away and given ‘proper’ clothing. The
clothes are sized for a person 6 inches taller than Kismet/Ruth but they are
better, much better, than nothing.
With
the women away Alec asks what manner of man Iktomi is? Constable/Adam tells him
that Iktomi, aka Rick, is a member of a savage tribe where the all look as he
does. Alec says that explains tales of monsters in the west lands.
Alec
and Mabel serve their guests fresh brewed tea while they wait for the
constable. After making introductions all around the group takes in the fact
that the Potts have carpets, drapes, matched tea cups and kettle. The Potts are
very affluent. Alec says if the group are ‘loyalists’ or ‘rebels’.
Constable/Adam announces they serve the King.
Contable
Clay, a redcoat, arrives. He has dispatched a squad to search for the rebel
scum who stole their goods but he does not expect much success. Even with the
light of the full moon making pursuit in the dark is hard and by morning they
will have had a good head start behind them.
Constable/Adam
tells Young Joseph tales about Iktomi/Rick having his bow and arrow stolen by
the rebels and then a tall tale about how Iktomi/Rick helped him hunt a
‘monster’ boar when they first met.
May 1, 1776 Thursday
At first light Mabel roses Kismet/Ruth to help with
breakfast. It is simple fair of left over meats, toasted bread, and fresh milk.
The subject Iktomi/Rick is not brought up.
Young Joseph takes the group except for Iktomi/Rick who
returns to South East Square
to stay out of sight to a clothier on Market
Street. They pass the several buildings owned by
Benjamin Franklin including the print shop where Thomas Paine works as Editor
for Pennsylvania Magazine.
The group spends 6 of their 20 guineas (24 if you count Lady
Paper) on clothes. While shopping they tell the clothier about their being
robbed by Rebels. The clothier says that he heard from Constable Clay that
another man was robbed in the same way this morning. The clothier has no other
details.
Kismet/Ruth wants to look for agates or other crystals so
she can re-create her mind link network for the group. Iktomi/Rick, after
getting his clothes, accompanies her. She does notice an active mind link
network in Philadelphia.
One of the mental threads leads directly in to the print shop of Thomas Paine.
Iktomi/Rick and Ruth/Kismet head down to the shore of the Delaware River to look for agates on the shore. The rest
go in to the print shop to talk to Thomas. After getting passed one of his
assistants (David) they speak to Thomas in his office. They warn him that
someone might come in to convince him to change his writing and if that fails
they might try to harm or kill him. Thomas Paine agrees to let him protect him
as long as there is no fee involved. They each shake his hand on the way out.
Iktomi/Rick and Ruth/Kismet are having no luck finding
crystals but they do see a ship unloading its cargo that has three mind link
threads leading to it. They stay and watch until a man with a mind link exits
the ship and heads down Dockstreet. They shadow him until he enters Franklin
Stoves on Market.
