Looking for update

I need to be filled in on what has changed since I last played both in roll20 and D&D. Last time I played heroes of the Underdark had just come out. I took a break because my party fell apart because I suck at saying no to people with bad timezones that insist they'll be able to play anyway. So I need to know if like its time for me to upgrade to 5e or if 4e i still dominant, what important new books there are I need to quickly buy and what has changed in roll20 since I last played. And then I need to find either a game to join or a bunch of people who want me to DM.
D&D: I am guessing you are asking if you should change what game you play based on what the majority of players are using? Roll20: I have no clue as to what Heroes of the Underdark is, so I can't say when that came out. As to what changes have happened all I can say is go into a game, either one you had before or one you create now as a test and check it out!

Changes in Roll20 have all been written-up on the Dev's blog , so just read the blogs going back to the time when you were last online here (Note that all the changes are significant improvements, however Roll20 still works generally the same as always so you could jump in a game and use the old features and it would work about the same.) In the world of D&D editions, lots and lots of people play 4E and will continue to play it for the foreseeable future (this is according to the publisher themselves, Wizards Of The Coast, who announced they will continue supporting the online 4E tools for the foreseeable future because so many people are playing it). 5E actually has not come out yet, but it is on the verge of being released, with a Basic Starter Set coming out first. There has been a "D&D Next Playtest" that has been available and lots of people are playing that on Roll20 (it is like a beta test version of 5E), and also lots of people have said they are buying & planning to play 5E as the books for it are released this year. You would have no problem finding groups in either system on here.
Thanks.

Starter set comes out on the 15th, but you can buy it in some early access stores tomorrow, I believe. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/prod... You can find early access stores from this page: http://locator.wizards.com/#brand=dnd&a=search&p=6...
