I wanted to show places of the map where the PCs tokens are not. I can make a token for that, but I was wondering if there is a way to make them not be able to see or control the token that is giving the vision.
For them to see through the token, they will have to have control of it. There is a TokenLock api script, but that would require a Pro subscription. You could make the token out of a transparent png so it would be invisible, but you wouldn't be able to see it either. Even if you put an aura on it with the "see" property unchecked, they would still see the aura since they have control of it.
You could take David's idea of an invisible token with tokenlock and combine that with the gmaura script to give it an aura on the gm layer, so the gm could still see and control it with ease. Gm aura Tokenlock
Use a transparent .png image token and give it a small aura which can only be seen by you. That way, you can at least see the aura. Give all players permission to edit the token and give it sight. Now, to prevent players from manipulating it, delete the token when not in use.
I use a token that would be a light source anyway, that all can see but players are unlikely to try to move it. Setting it as a drawing after it is set up prevents the radial menu from appearing, but it will still provide vision for the players who control it.
