[LFP][Saturday March 6][White Wolf][Superhero] - Game Day! Aberrant

The Adventure Continues (Part 6 this Saturday) Game Day With the White Wolf's  Aberrant! Day:  Saturday, March 6th Start Time:  9:00 AM PST / 5:00 PM GMT Duration:  5 hours, +1 hour optional buffer, if needed to finish. Voice:  Voice and some sounds will be run on Discord Everything Else:  Roll20 is used for everything else: character sheets, maps, handouts, music, and sound effects Players:  Max 5 It's time to socialize and take a break from the news. My players voted for  Aberrant , the original 1st Edition version from White Wolf; so that's what we're playing -- this Saturday. And  You are welcome to join us!  This Saturday will be Part 6 of an ongoing adventure using a module originally published by White Wolf. It's part mystery and part action, with the players trying to find out the real story about the mysterious death of a famous Nova, one of the superstars of Team Tomorrow (if you're a DC comics fan, think Justice League). A little bit about  Aberrant  first, as it's not a widely known game:  Aberrant  is a game about mutant superheroes. But this is White Wolf’s interpretation; you know, the folks that made the World of Darkness games. And this is using the same Storyteller system. Yes, there are leotards, but don’t expect that this is all there is. Take a moment; imagine if you suddenly manifested super powers. Knowing that there are going to be people out there who are going to love, guide, protect, teach, envy, petition, worship, emulate, manipulate, control, use, hate, fear, destroy you, what do you do? Super powers have a cost, physical, social, and psychological. Again, this is White Wolf: expect nuance and the muddying of pre-conceptual waters. Not everyone is going to end up a hero or villain; living somewhere in the grey shadows between those extremes is more common than you think. Many will hide or use their powers in small ways, or even try to ignore their powers altogether, knowing that there are organizations trying to corral Novas (superheroes) under their control, readying for a showdown of what it means to be a Nova in the world. And of course, being White Wolf, there’s an undertone of tragedy. If you know anything about the Trinity Continuum of which  Aberrant  is the second, or midway, installment of that expansive RPG arc, you know that Novas ultimately won’t end up well and are essentially doomed--in the long run. This is much like for Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, Wraith -- where all supernaturals are ultimately doomed. This does not affect the everyday interactions, and isn’t imminent, any more in  Aberrant  than it is for the World of Darkness denizens. But it does certainly colour the world a bit darker. As always for my games, the primary rules for interaction are courtesy, patience, acceptance, tolerance, and having respect for everyone. Newbies are welcome. Games are always free. Having the rules is never required. And for social games like this, characters will be provided. All you need to do is show up, ready to have some fun.  Also, just a note that, as these Game Day! games I'm running are to offer folks a chance to take a break from isolation and safely socialize and have fun, it's important that anyone seeking to join confirms that they are firmly free this Saturday. Fortunately it's not hugely prevalent, but ghosting and last minute drops take a slot away from someone else that could have used a game day break. Don't be that person.  For those that would like to know more about  Aberrant , here is a  Link  to the Cannibal Halfling Gaming article from 2019, titled  Aberrant: A Forgotten Superhero RPG Worth Remembering.
I want to qualify this upcoming session. This is part 6 of a story thread of a casual series whose goal is to encourage safe socialization in a time of pandemic, and to provide at least one opportunity to do so. But at this point, the story is winding down. I know it can be difficult to come into a story in progress and to know what's going on. So who might this game be good for at this point? I think if you like exploring character and can step into a role, these larger than life beings can be fun to play, like in any superhero game. The story aspect is at its core, very simple. In broad strokes, this Saturday's session continues the infiltration, now pretty much an assault, on a fortress hideout with a dark purpose that the characters only last session stumbled upon. It's one of a number of threads of an investigation whose outcome is by no means certain. As each of the players is tied to Jennifer Saunders/Slider in some way, they each have different reasons to want to see this through until the end, either to bring justice for Slider, or because Jennifer was going to reveal something to you before she died, and now you want to find out what that was, no matter the cost. This would also be a good session for someone interested in Aberrant . Maybe you saw it on the shelf back in the day and were curious about it but never got a chance to play it. Some of us are very curious to try out different systems and settings. This system is the Storyteller System, specifically the Revised Storyteller System. Perhaps you would like to see how that works, or perhaps you're used to it in World of Darkness, but haven't tried it in a superhero setting before. Or perhaps you like sessions that focus on story, character, and setting, offered as a relaxing game day without further commitment, These game day sessions are meant for people to come and go as their schedules and inclinations allow.
Still TWO seats left for tomorrow's game, for anyone that wakes up or gets home and feels like being a superhero for a day. There will be pre-generated characters to choose from. We start in just over 24 hours as I write this.
