Macro or API Script to Automatically Add Commonly-Used "Ability" Macros to a 5e Character

I am finding that I have a number of common token action macros that I always need to manually add to a character sheet (under the "Abilities" header).  For example, I always add macros and token action buttons for Initiative, Perception, Stealth, Saving Throws, and Generic Ability Checks.  How would I go about doing this?  It occurs to me that this should be something amenable to automation.  It also occurs to me that if I use the API I could probably take the next step and automatically add such buttons for abilities in which the character is proficient (which is also something I am wont to do).  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Keith, I'll look into it.  I don't know that I want to autogen token actions for everything , but I suspect I can start with that and strip it down (deleting a whole bunch of extraneous actions sounds like almost as much work as selectively adding a few).
