Yo, I recently started DMing a Tomb of Annihilation game with my four friends in our Discord community , but one of us can't make it every time because of family commitments; so I could use 2-4 more players for it just to make sure we have a full party each week. We've run two sessions so far introing the characters on a sailing ship and surviving a few sea monster attacks; and have just made it to the starting location, Port Nyanzaru, at the tail end of the last session, so you wont have missed much. As a DM, I try to tailor my games to suit everyone's playstyle and wants to the best of my ability, and I love to bring players' backstories into the main plot, and reward players for helping other players have fun. I like to toss out lots of little side-plot strings and half-preemptively half-improvisationally build upon the ones the players seem to enjoy the most. I try to run very dynamic and memorable combat encounters, so sometimes I get loose or improvisational with the rulings for the sake of a cool moment. I'm not very good at improv or voice acting since I'm more used to editing my language over and over to be precise as with writing novels or PbP games. We're running it at levels 10-16 (10 currently), and I'm buffing everything either beforehand or improvisationally to match the new level range. We use "free point buy" for stats, which is calculated the same as regular point buy, with 27 points, except you can decrease or increase scores more; as opposed to the usual lower and upper limits of 8 and 16, allowing for more flexibility. We're using a homebrew supplement for creating custom magic weapons for each character, called Ancestral Weapons. I've disallowed picking feats instead of ASI's, but will give each player 3 feats (of their choice) by the end of the campaign through training side-quests. Each player starts off with their class's starting equipment OR starting gold; as well as 500 gp + 1d10 x 25 gp (which they can use to purchase more equipment before joining in); and 2 uncommon magic items. We use the Discord channel in the server for updates/public notes, Roll20 for maps, a D&DB campaign for character sheets, and recommend using the Beyond20 browser extension for rolls (I have the module bought on R20 and most of the D&DB content shared with the campaign). The party so far: Gjinzari Gjaskin; Vistani (Reskinned Eladrin) 10th level Bladesinger Wizard; a vagabond seeking vengeance through the use of his new master's dangerous magic, (heavy roleplayer and combat mechanics master; knows exactly how they want things to go with their character) Arann; Reborn (UA) 10th level Sun Soul Monk; a quiet monk from far away sand seas, rotting away as the days go by, looking to end his curse (more of a passive player/audience member with a dry sense of humor and cartoonish (mis)understanding of physics "I punch the fire to make it go away") Tatsu; Human (Variant) 10th level Samurai Fighter; a scarred, jaded samurai seeking a higher purpose in life. (more experienced in combat heavy games, more interested in roleplay, but somewhat new to it and introverted) (new player, unnamed as of yet) Human (Variant) 10th level Hexblood Warlock; (no description yet) (kind of a mad scientist when it comes to mechanics and plans, but not as obnoxious as some in that vein can be) Message me on Discord at Zionswasd#8143 . FYI, we use a screening/interview server to make sure new entries are cool with our server's rules, to set up their schedule in our spreadsheet, and to get to know more about them as a person and player before we add them to the server proper.
