I know this answer, or a least I did at one time. In photoshop how do you make tokens stand alone without a white back ground? Is it layers? For some reason I cannot remember how I use to do it.

In GIMP all you gotta do is lower the opacity of the background layer to 0%. I'm willing to bet it's a similar case with what you're using. Another thing is when drawing on any program, make sure you're drawing on a transparent layer. It makes everything much, MUCH less complicated.
