Names, hp bars, zlayer, fog of war

When tokens are near the edge of unrevealed areas you can't see the hp bar or name (depending if it's top or bottom). Shouldn't this be on top of the fog of war? Gm made these things visible, I comment that we can't see when token is next to the wall. The GM moves, which causes confusion as to what's going on (enemy is moving out of turn etc).

Good idea.  I'd even like if those things only appear on mouse over?  They take up too much screen and confuse the scene.  If someone wants to see a token's name or help, it should only appear with a mouse over or a select?
That's a good idea to deal with the overlap of tokens next to each other. I was trying to figure out how to deal with that as well, thought at first displaying on the token but then you couldn't see the picture. Your idea is much better, but seams like it should possibly be a checkbox as having party names visible can be useful. (Though shortened names are required for chat and token name length reasons in some games because of probelms we have currently with them).
I also thing that it's annoying where HP bars get covered by FoW but it would be a puzzle to make work properly. I mean if it's ALWAYS on top, then if there are monsters hiding in the FoW players will see the HP bars. I like the mouse-over idea, but even then if a player mouses over and then discovers a hidden token with bars in the FoW by accident with mouseover... hinda defeats the purpose a little, so I understand why it is as it is... I mean right now it's also an issue if the hidden token is too cklose to the revealed are the PCs can see that HP bar peaking out too, so they know it's there. A bit of a catch22 unless you can code it to be able to know how much of the token is covered... like if more than 75% of the token is covered, don't show the bar and less then 25% you can show the bar on whatever layer.

I like to put things on the GM layer so the players can't see them for sure, even if FOW is revealed in that area.  Then you as the GM manually reveal the token.

+1, and I agree with Konrad. FoW is for the map, token attributes can be hidden with the GM layer.
This isn't an issue with the gm layer, as the GM you can see through the fog of war. This is why the Gm didn't even know players couldn't see what he was trying to show us. So this would only be in effect on token layer.
+1 on the mouseover.
I like the idea of on select unless FOW blocks the mouse over and would save a little on the resources if the program does not need to watch for the mouse over (probably a negligible impact)

on select would be fine as well, although if mouse over could be done that might be easier.  Then you don't have to wait the second for the token to be selected.  Just fly your mouse over and you see the bars and the name.  It might even be nice if you had the option to only show auras on mouse over.  Aura's can be quite distracting to the map board.  If you could change the opacity of auras that would help also, but I think I would love the option for Aura's to be seen only on mouse over.  And I'd love on mouse over to show the actual outline of where the token can see out to.  Similar to the way maptools would show the outline I think when you selected the token.
+1 on transparency adjustments!  I tried to adjust the alpha on the hexadecimal number but it didn't work.  So yes please to alpha adjustment on the dropdown menu for everything!:)
+1 for something that allows us to see a bar without the hassle
