[LFP][5e][Free] Looking for 3 new players to continue a homebrew, high-magic, sandbox game: Mondays 5pm EST

Game Synopsis:  Things are changing in Lateia. One of Saltwatch's great Circle of Five is said to have been assassinated... permanently. Highly intelligent and monstrous creatures have become more and more common on the continent of Udrera. Anti-magic revolutionaries have performed a coup on the previously neutral Crossroads. And now you find yourself in the sea-soaked city of Mesamoor, a pirate capital of the riverlands. Things are going very, very wrong and everything is pointing to the mysterious Assembly being behind it all.  Game Update:  This game has been running for about 9 months and was part of a pandemic game. Due to a lot of players taking on new work we've had to change the time and so we are starting almost brand new. That said, the world and plot have had many developments which will continue to exist. Also good to know that this is a long-term campaign which used the base premise from Numenera's The Devil's Spine. The setting is homebrewed, many of the rules are homebrewed, and outside of the initial premise, the story is heavily driven by the characters, their backstories, and their goals.  Sessions are around 4 hours.  Ideal Player: Shares my passion for character acting and RP. I want someone who stays in character during session with minimal OOC interactions and feels comfortable reacting on the spot. I'm totally fine with new players, I just want them excited to play and interested in immersion.  Low drama. I want someone who isn't going to rule lawyer, steal the show, or start silly arguments. I think D&D is awesome when players can get along outside of the game and love an active discord server among players. I also like players who understand that this is a homebrew game and rules will definitely not be RAW all the time. That said, feel free to push back if you disagree on a call if I've gotten it wrong. Just know that I will make the final ruling and I expect players to roll with that so we don't slow down the game to much.  Creative. I will do my absolute best to give you as much creative freedom as you choose. Choose any race, any class, any alignment that you think are cool. Something doesn't exist? Homebrew it and run it by me. You will be active in worldbuilding creating your characters home, local customs, religions, etc. My job will be to facilitate your story.  Me as a DM:  I've been playing D&D for around 2 and half years, and DMing around 9 months. I appreciate feedback and love hearing from my players about what they want for their characters, what they think can be improved in the game, and what types of encounters they like and don't like. That said, if you've pushed back once and I've made a final ruling, I expect it to be followed for the remainder of the session. I'll be more than willing to discuss the issue after session (or just shoot me a private message)  High immersion. I will try to use vivid descriptions and provide audio/imagery where I'm able to keep everyone immersed. I will also strive to keep each NPC believable with individual motivations and ideals. Additionally, there will be limited 'skipping the boring bits'. You want to a horse, you will have to chat with the stablemaster. You want to get from point A to B, you will be travelling there.  A Limited Sandbox. This is my world, but your story. As characters, you are free to make whatever decision you'd like (whether its skipping a town or choosing to avoid that big creepy thing in the corner). I will provide plenty of plot hooks and I will definitely have a cohesive story in mind (with clear directional markers haha), but it will never take away from your character's choice.  Believable characters. Each NPC and especially each PC should be believable as characters. You should have your own set of motivations and ideals. Hey, I might even try and throw in some character voices, though lord knows I'm no voice actor.  Some game rules and character creation items:  Be respectful and friendly.  Show up on time. Don't miss sessions without a warning.  No Forever Alone characters Characters are currently at level 6 All characters will have background story chats with me via discord prior to the first session Point by or rolling for stats Level 1 feat and up to a rare magic item (that can mean 3 common, 2 common and 1 uncommon, or 1 rare. However you would like to configure it. I'm happy to chat more) Homebrew is totally acceptable and I'm not afraid "overpowered" characters. We just need to make sure your power level aligns with the rest of the party.  There will be encounters that far outstrip your characters' abilities. Prepare a backup character and become ok with running away or parlay Video is optional  Voice via discord Thank you for your interest! Looking forward to hearing from you. Application info is as follows:  You can also post applications  HERE  Name :  Age :  Gender :  Tell me about yourself :  Experience with D&D and Roll20 :  What have you never done in a D&D game that you would like to try out (or try again) : Character Summary : (Race, Class, Age and one-sentence description)
Hi Rabbit! I just want to start off by saying that I definitely share your passion for storytelling and roleplaying. While I'll often quip one liners that might be OOC, I try my hardest to stay in character during session and react realistically to in-game events. I'm most certainly not a rules lawyer by any means, and your word is law in the world that you DM. Name: Ana, short for Ananfal (my nickname on Discord). Age: 22, turning 23 in the fall. Gender: Female, she/they. About myself: I'm LGBTQ, living on my own with my cat. I'll be moving in a few months, but otherwise my schedule is clear to make session. If I can't make a session, I'll give advance notice of at least a few days barring emergencies. I live in Eastern US and speak primarily English. I probably won't be comfortable turning on the video unless asked to, since I'm pretty self conscious about the way I look.  My experience: I've been playing D&D for 8 years. I mostly play 3.5e, but I've dabbled with 5e for a few campaigns in the past. I've DMed a module or two but much prefer playing to DMing. I've been with one group for the past 3 years with weekly sessions lasting 4+ hours meeting on Sunday nights 7-11pm EST. Our time is spent on Roll20 and I'm very familiar with their features, aside from the new Dynamic Lighting coming in May as the map my DM has us on currently was made in the old lighting system. I've played most classes and most races. Something I've never done: I'm not very good at character voices. I've got my voice... and then a gravelly makes-my-throat-hoarse voice. I'd like to try and get a character voice that's different enough from mine to be recognizable but not too hard. Character Summary: I currently have a Dragonborne Sorcerer I'd like to play named Quilara, she's late 20s to early 30s with golden scales from her dragon heritage. The previous backstory she had made her hate all humans, but I'm expecting the backstory to change coming into this world. She has an affinity for fire and prefers damaging spells versus field control spells.
Hi Margaret,  Thank you for posting! I'm glad that you have such a passion for roleplay and i'd like to confirm that my games are 100% LGBTQ-friendly. I think Quilara sounds really interesting, but this world is a little bit funny regarding draconic bloodlines. We can have a chat to see whether we could make it work, but do you have any other characters in mind that you would be excited to play?
I rarely end up re-using characters for different campaigns, to be honest. Typically I make a fresh one for every campaign I'm in because every story is a little bit different, and I find that characters don't really fit the way they did in another story. I used Quilara as an example of a character I had made previously since you asked for one, but I fully expected to change her into basically a new character based on what I learned about your world (should you have accepted me). That being said, I'm not sure exactly what I would want to play aside from her - I'm a team player, so I'll often try to fill a slot in the composition that isn't being filled yet. I'm not sure if you have any other players currently, but I'd fit my character in around them to compliment and ensure we have a broad skillset. I've played druids before, spellcasters like sorcerers, a paladin, a fighter, with different races as well. If you'd like, I could create another sample character for you?
Hi! That makes total sense. Part of the selection process is me sharing info about the applicants with the current party so that they could get a feel. So another character idea would be helpful, even if it ends up changing to really match party/story needs.  For reference, the current party is a barbarian and fighter/sorcerer multiclass. A third likely party member is also a sorcerer.
Based on that party, I just made a sample Water Genasi Cleric of the Life Domain using the D&D Beyond character creator. Of course, everything about them is subject to change going forward, but I liked the idea of playing a healer in this party since there's two front liners (sort of) and no healer as of yet. They'll still be up in the thick of things with a high Dex to aid in AC, but fully focused on healing by giving up their stat adjustment to get the Healer feat. If anything about this doesn't work for you in your world, just let me know! (I can also supply a link to the D&D Beyond character sheet if you'd like a look.)
