[LFP][1E][AD&D][West Marches] Terranova 1E AD&D West-Marches Session Zero begins Monday April 26!!!

Itching to play good 'ol fashioned AD&D? Want to experience Old School/Vintage play? Summer looms and I am currently building a roster of players for an epic West-Marches style campaign using First Edition rules! Now Free to Join! Tips accepted. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/285949/terranova-ad-and-d-west-marches The Guild of Strongfist seeks brave souls who are willing to explore the vast wilderness of Terranova in the name of the Overlord! As Guild members you have been granted access beyond the walls of the City State of Ironclad , to survey and eventually reclaim what is rightfully owed to His Lordship AND in return for accurate maps, expedition journals and guild fees, you will be housed, fed, trained, and may rightfully keep whatever spoils you find! About the game: In 2017 I ran a face-to-face AD&D West-Marches campaign in Toronto, ON called Terranova. About a dozen players joined the campaign, some running multiple characters, who would clamour for sessions (and roleplay) on a special forum I built just for the game. PCs were members of a powerful guild within a draconian city state, who had special privileges to exit the city walls to explore and reclaim the wild wilderness beyond (and thus seek their fortune). Players would look at the world map, organize "expedition parties" and inform me where they planned to travel, then I would prep the adventure. Those who wrote journals were awarded in bonus XP! This lasted for nearly a year until DM burnout ensued (I was running three sessions a week!). After a bit of a hiatus I have decided to re-boot Terranova! Have a look at the listing to learn more about the setting! Online Aesthetic : I am very much a pen-and-paper DM who loves the tactile feel of pushing lead figures on a vinyl mat, sipping my scotch while making hand-drawn maps on graph paper, passing secret notes, watching players map, and keeping an impressive large 3-ring campaign binder. I am not enamored with the "turn-based video-game" experience this platform espouses. Therefore, you will not see downloaded 3rd-party photo-shopped colour maps, dynamic lighting and other (cheesy) techno bells and whistles. We will be using this platform for its dice rolling and character sheet features, as well as its voice and text chat. We will make use of the VTT battle board when necessary (I have a stylus pad to draw maps on the fly). Verbal description is key! Listening and calmly waiting your turn to speak will literally save your character's life! Players are deeply encouraged to do their own mapping (and to share those maps in the game forum) or risk getting hopelessly lost in the vast wilderness and underworlds of Terranova!!! System: This is 1E AD&D circa 1983. Books used: PHB, DMG, MM, DDG, MM2, FF (plus some ideas from UA) . Magic levels are low, death a real possibility, your PC is expected to live by their judgement, sword and wits! Fear not! Should your first PC die, character generation is relatively quick (and you can leave an inheritance to your relatives). The rules are quirky and not fully defined, therefore your referee (me) will often make rulings on the fly and there will be a few house rules to boot... these must be accepted at the table (and possibly debated later). Fear not! I may not fudge rolls but I am actually cheering for you ! Under this system your character can attempt anything . (O)AD&D does not have a "core mechanic," but rather an abstract but robust combat system and many "mini games within games," to adjudicate various actions and outcomes. You may be asked to roll a d6, d20, d100 (or a bunch of dice). Rarely will I say just say, "no." Often I will say, "yes, but..." or "yes, and..." and often "roll a d6." Vintage D&D (especially AD&D) is resource and time management heavy, meaning time matters in terms of things like food and sleep (and health). If you plan to travel for 3 days, you must bring supplies (and find ways to carry them). If you run out of arrows, food, lamp oil, etc. more will not magically appear! About your DM: Hey, I'm Dean. I am a musician/ record producer/writer based out of Toronto ON Canada. My interests include rock 'n' roll (indie, psych, noise, college & classic rock), literature (HPL, Tolkien, REH, Camino, Bukowski, Munro), various vices, and classic RPGs . I've been DMing since 1982! Systems I like to run: BtB 1E AD&D, OD&D (+ select supplements), Holmes, Moldvay/Cook BX and CoC 5E. I am inclusive by nature . And even though my games deal with issues like colonialism and racism, I don't like real-life bigots or bullies (and I don't tolerate them). I keep my games PG-13. I don't allow themes of sexual harassment or assault or detailed torture in my games and will quickly "fade to black," if things get cringe-worthy. I am always open to discussing a players boundaries in private. Direct Message me if you are interested and I will grant you access to the game. The first Session Zero is slated for Monday April 26. Yours, DM
Hello Dean. Sean Ballantyne (I always have trouble with the spelling of his last name) Referred me to you. If you would allow me to play. I would like to try your game.
