Paladin finds Nocturna waiting for him in his room. She has
run into a bit of trouble. While she was exploring the Dream-Realms she was
killed, but she got better. Since she cheated death a being, a Russian super
villainess, called Dark Angel is after her. Dark Angel is an Angel of Death, an
agent of Death, and Death wants to end Nocturna’s life.
Paladin gives her old room back to her and welcomes her back
into the team.
Constable is working on various plans to get around the
naked time travel limitation. He is working on a plan wrap large Jelly-Fish
around himself and trick the time tunnel to let him, and his gear, pass.
In the meantime Bear has asked Constable to deliver his
parents back due protection payment to the Bratva. With the exception of Bear
and Paladin the group go to the Russian Tea room where the Bratva leader is
known to visit.
Kismet gets a table and Constable introduces himself to the
Russian criminals. After the waiter serves the Brooklyn Brigade (not
identified) their food and drink he tells them that ‘the man in the corner’
will see them now.
The man in the corner identifies himself as Boris Pankrati
Antonov. Boris and Constable negotiate for a while.
At noon Constable will bring Boris 50K dollars for
reparations and then he wants 1K a week for protection for the Karatel family and their market.
After the
negotiations are table a blond girl in odd clothing comes out of the kitchen
area and speaks quietly, but harshly, with Boris. She then walks past the
Brooklyn Brigades table eyeing them with distain. She then exits the tea room
into the night.
Noon
Kismet and Constable
go to the tea room and pay Boris the money. The deal is struck and agreed to.
Meanwhile Paladin
calls Joe Nardini of the organized crime unite of NYPD. Paladin wants to know
who the local head of the Bratva in New
York is. Nardini has Paladin meet him at Cuppa Joe.
Paladin is to buy Joe a French Vanilla Cappuccino with shot of mocha and a
extra shot of caffeine.
Joe tells him that a
year ago, maybe even six months ago, Boris Antonov was the head of the Bratva
but not anymore. A new guy moved in and took control of the Bratva, his name is
Ivan Kragoff.
Ivan is not just a
ruthless crime lord but he is also a mad scientist. He is served by, having
created, three super primates: a gorilla (Miklho), a baboon (Igor), and a
orangutan (Peotor). Ivan also is served by a blond girl named Kara who is also
reputed to have super powers.
Paladin and Nardini
chat for a while before Paladin is off to his next appointment; he is going to
see Doctor Elias McQuark.
Lydia welcomes Paladin and takes him to see the
doctor. Elias is pacing while trying to figure out how to create substitute
chocolate that was healthy but just as tasty.
Paladin asks the
doctor about the newspaper article about a primitive homeless tribe near Coney Island. McQuark was aware and is amazed and
horrified that the brain killing virus is now contagious (through body fluid or
bit). Doctor McQuark has been working on a cure based on the research the
Brooklyn Brigade turned over to him taken from the terrorist group Bloodmoon. Doctor
McQuark has in fact created a cure to the Glove Cleaner virus. The problem is
it must be administered without 24 hours of contracting the disease. After that
the cure will kill the virus but the brain damage has already been done and is
incurable. He gives Paladin 5 vials with 4 doses of the cure each. Paladin
gives 3 of them to Lt. Jerry House and keeps 2 vials for himself and the team.
When Paladin gets
back to the base he tells the rest of the group that the Bratva situation has
gotten much more complicated, they have supers.
Bear wants his
parents to be safe. He convinces them to go on vacation for a week convincing
them that Lady Paper can take care of their market.
He lied to them in
order to get them to go, Lady Paper will be doing nothing at the market.
Paladin then drives
to northern New York
state to the hangar where their ship is being stored. He consults with Hal and
Dewy. They report that the ship is ready for flight, even the FTL drive is
ready. They also give Paladin a list of supplies they need for maintenance of
the ship and each other. Paladin asks if there are any threats to the planet
that they are aware of. The answer is a guarded yes. They don’t know if the
hostiles on the moon were an immanent threat or not. (When the group was
scouring the solar system for Kryptonite they found some on the moon but were
fired upon when they approached.)

Thursday
Małgorzata Rochalska, a polish scientist, gets back in touch
with Constable. The electromagnetic bio-signature is subtle and nuanced. He
does not think jelly-fish would work, plants surely won’t. He would need to
emulate the bio-signature of a mammal, likely a large one. When Constable says
he want to ‘fake’ the signature Malgorzata suggests a thin polymar skin to
stretch over the subject or feeding the EM signature into a field of force to
fake out the time tunnel and allow gear to travel with the traveler.
He also gives Constable a few templates of bio-signatures
that might be useful.
Also Constable helps Kismet move back into her dorm where
she gets goosed by unseen hands. The ghost is still there.

Constable starts working on a new time machine and bracelets
that will give the traveler and his gear a bio-signature so they can travel.
The base time for his research is about a week.
Kismet goes to a frat toga party at Delta Upsilon with her
friend the RA Sherry Marsh.

Paladin authorizes I5 and Sachs and Violens to continue to
surveillance of Manfred and Max Barna
September 28, 2018 Thursday
Constable is finished with his version, a modernized
version, of the Time Masters time machine. He is also finished with the
bracelets that are intended to create bio-signature cocoons. Lady Paper
volunteers to test the machinery.
The portal is set for September 28, 1980.
She steps through the portal but does not come back
Bear is next to go, he also does not come back.
Kismet uses her mental powers to communicate with them. Lady
Paper is unreachable but Bear answers. They both were horribly injured by going
through the portal.
Kismet can heal so she goes next. She goes naked thinking
the bracelet caused the injuries. She also activates her force field for extra
protection.
When Kismet goes through she is also horribly hurt but
luckily not as badly as Bear and Lady Paper. Kismet starts effecting healing.
Constable goes down the block to the Time Masters to ask for
them to use their machine to bring them back. Rip and Bonnie agree and the
three travelers are brought home.
S040_Quest_For_Time_001 Epilogue
After rescuing the travelers from 1980 Jeff Smith, the Time
Masters chief temporal mechanic, will says; “If both machines are drawn from
the same blue-prints maybe we can test your bracelets using our machine? If
nothing else that would eliminate that variable in our quest for a repair. What
do you think?”
