Question.

If you could magically have a GM who shared your views on a campaign concept... what would you like to play?

Reverse D&D, where the players are the monsters. The DM controls either the murderhobo adventurers trying to kill them and take their stuff (reverse dungeon crawl), or the not-so-murderhobo but still rather xenophobic people that the players are trying to convince they won't eat (or harm otherwise, for that matter) in order to just make a peaceful more accepting world (something like the plot of TenSura or So I'm a Spider, but not limited to the ground-crawly "basic" monsters).

So in your game concept do you live in some abandoned castle (or underground someplace) just waiting on the chance that some hapless explorer crosses your path?
I mean, not necessarily. My favorite sort of monster game is the "misunderstood monsters" archetype -- the characters really do want to get along with humanoid races. It might start off that way, with the characters living in the wilderness -- or it could be a world where monsters have their own cities, like in Somali and the Forest Spirit... There are actually a lot of ways this can go, the difficult part is balancing it.
I started this thread on the chance that there could very well be a match between the kind of campaign someone wants to play and one that someone may want to run. Maybe this can happen for you. I had a thought;and, while I am certain that I am over-simplifying your concept, hear me out as you may not have thought about it from this particular angle. It seems to me that running a campaign as a GM might scratch that itch for you. Now I know that it's not the same as being a PC, but if you put that much passion into your NPC's (never make their story more important than the party's) your game could really encourage more knowledge checks, perception checks, investigation, etc. You then could control one of those "misunderstood monsters" and really let the party 'discover' part of his story before meeting him and then get the rest upon answering the PC's questions as they try to piece it all together. Maybe even control it during a battle with a common foe. Just a thought. Good luck to you in you gaming and in your search.
Dragon, gold, solar, bronze, or sky. My mighty winged creature would use a humanoid form while in towns/cities and adventuring while sparingly using my true form. Meanwhile, in dragon form, I would look for a fantastic lair under the city or town I chose to retire, mate, and tend to dragon matters. As a humanoid, I would run some sort of business. My dragon may take class levels to make magic items, or classes in druid to protect the area he/she resides in, or maybe monk to become a badass. I would work with the DM to bring the character full circle.

Going along with Paul's idea... I too have thought about a lone Druidic WereBear defending his territory from WereWolves and other evil creatures which may attempt to destroy his home forest.
One type of "monster" (if you can call them that) I like to play are celestials...specifically of the neutral to chaotic sort. Perhaps nature associated spirits as well...Azatas are really fun personalitywise and have a lot of cool stuff they can do as well. Other things I like to play exist, fey are a particularly fun (in a whimsical way) group of races to meme around with.
A battle royale type of campaign that takes place in the modern world.   Something either magical girl related or something highlander related, but the end result is there can be only one.
Dan  I like The Council of Wyrms's idea, admittedly it wasn't my initial thought. My idea is a dragon living a dual identity for survival.
