If you're reading this, you are one of a privileged and (un)lucky few who have been hand-picked to join me, Strangie, in an adventure taking place in the biggest city on the continent of Faerûn. The setting is Waterdeep, also known as the Crown of the North or the City of Splendors. You are one of a group of adventurers that have been hired (or will soon be hired) by a famous author and explorer named Volothamp "Volo" Geddarm, who has a quest for you. However, behind this seemingly simple task, is a plot involving a massive treasure and an ensuing gang war that will soon embroil the city in chaos! Below are some basic character creation information and rules 1. I am sharing my compendium content with all players. Thus, all character creation options are available. However, being as this is likely your first game, the number of character options might be overwhelming at first glance. I would ask that you focus on what you want your character to be able to do and I will help find something that fits for you, if you don't already have something in mind. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions! I will generally not be allowing homebrew content  but if you have a character concept in mind that can't be realized with the available rules, I'll help you work something out. 2. Ability scores will be determined randomly (4d6, drop lowest). Normally, I use this option with some stringent requirements, but as the main focus of this game will be fun, I will allow players to reroll their scores with my permission, or if I think they are too low. However, you may elect to keep a rolled set of scores if inspiration strikes you. Just keep in mind that while the least likely heroes make the most interesting adventurers, I don't want you to play a character so woefully inept that they aren't actually useful. I find this unlikely to happen, but you never know! 3. Basic Conduct Rules. A lot of this stuff is self-explanatory and probably doesn't need to be told to you guys, but I do this with every group and to ensure fairness I will do the same here. Avoid metagaming. Information about the campaign, monsters, etc. can easily be found online. Please do not attempt to spoil yourself as much as possible. However, I know this isn't completely possible in some situations, so I ask that you only act in such a way that is realistic for your character; for example, you might know all the traits of a certain kind of monster but your character might not. If you want to try and glean such insights in-game, I might ask you to roll an appropriate ability check to see what the character might know. No cheating. I don't expect this to be an issue, and the nature of how the dice work in the game make it very hard to cheat, but please do not fudge numbers on your sheet or attempt to play in a way that is deceptive (for example; subtly adjusting hit points or changing your number of spell slots). Mistakes happen and sometimes we forget things, but I will be keeping an eye out for things that don't seem to add up, and I am able to restore back ups to verify authenticity. I place my faith in you that you will play with honor and truth. Be respectful to me and other players. As we're all friends here, I don't expect this to be an issue, but I have had players in the past not do this and it destroys the feeling of the game, so it must be said. Please play in a way that is fun for everyone; this includes not being late to sessions and making sure you are paying attention, and respect my judgement. If you feel something was handled unfairly or incorrectly, I'm open to discussion, but the GM's word is final, and in the interest of time I might decide on a hard-and-fast ruling to keep the game flowing. Be open. This is probably the most important one of all; if you find you aren't enjoying yourself or there is some element of the game that is holding you back or are unsure about, PLEASE TELL ME (privately if you must). I do not want anybody to feel uncomfortable ever and the main objective of this above anything else is to have FUN. I will do whatever it takes to ensure everybody is having a good time. Please provide feedback as much as possible and do not be shy. I'll update this post as needed. You can post replies here if you have questions or DM me on Discord/Telegram.
