Ch. 66: The Party Escorts Don-Jon Raskin to the Mountain's Toe Mine and Meet Were-Rats

ROLO: ty morning   Sirus: Morning all.   Dungeon Master (GM): Good Morning!   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, here is an excerpt from last week: The next morning Don-Jon Raskin and the adventurers set out for the Mountain’s Toe gold mine, Don-jon telling tales of his exploits along the way and when they get to a spot about 5 miles out from the mine they see the following before them:   A low ridge rises to your right, beyond which you see the Sword Mountains scrape the gray sky. But closer in, something is strewn across the rocky ground ninety feet ahead. They are clad in hide armor, and their greataxes and javelins litter the ground around them.   Dungeon Master (GM): It was determined they may have died from extreme cold as they all have very severe frostbite on the 3 day old dead bodies.   Sirus: Right, and Dia managed to discern that they were killed with what was most likely ice magic.   Feralda: Yeah, that's what I remembered.   Sirus: As in, drogon Most likely   Roqar: hehe Dragon Drogon is from GoT I believe   Feralda: Khal Drogo slew them with his sword of ice.   Dungeon Master (GM): It's getting close to darkness now so you might want to set up camp and then enter the mine in the morning I have the series and have not watched GoT yet!   Feralda: Sounds good.   ROLO: got was great i think u will like it   Feralda: You'll like Khal Drogo. Trust me.   Roqar: I have it also will get round to watching it sometime   Sirus: I also have no experience with it at all. ....Oh boy what's this now.   Feralda: I mostly just read the books.   Dungeon Master (GM): I will likely get the 4K version before I even watch it same with the hobbit/LotR stuff of which I only saw the first Hobbit movie!   ROLO: there my favorite   Feralda: An unexpected journey.   Sirus: Oh right, set up camp. GM, you are gonna clean the map up a bit, I hope? :p   Dungeon Master (GM): let's see about wandering monsters disturbing your sleep:  5   6   6   2   Feralda: The bodies add to the aesthetic.   ROLO: anyone have lemonds tiny hut?   Sirus: pssh Dia has it yes   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok you all get a good rest and it's early morning now.   Sirus: No need tho, comfy rest   Roqar: Dia does I believe   Feralda: I didn't take the tiny hut spell, because I don't want to cheat,   ROLO: i recomond we use it i took counterspell and fireball but useally take it   Sirus: Okay, so, it's morning and we are near the mine, right?   ROLO: not cheating if its in the game lol   Sirus: ^   Feralda: It kind of is cheating. Like the create food and water spell, it kind of ruins the survival aspect of traveling.   Sirus: The thing is tho Sometimes you're in a place that's terrible for survival checks For food/water Unbalanced, yes. Cheating, no.   ROLO: so magic is cheating really dont use it   Feralda: It's magic, I don't have to explain anything! :P   ROLO: are u playing a wizard?   Sirus: GM, so we are near the mine now? Or...   Dungeon Master (GM): Hidden among bushes, a tunnel burrows into the foot of a soaring, snow-capped mountain. Above the mouth of the tunnel is a wooden plank with the words “Mountain’s Toe” carved into it in Common.   Feralda: This character is a wizard, yeah.   Roqar: GM/DM decides whats cheating Like taking a class at 1st level and never taking it again is that cheating?   Dungeon Master (GM): yes you get up and proceed towards the mine entrance   Feralda: Let's enter the toe.   Sirus: Okay. I think we can begin, then.   ROLO: i think its a great spell and i will be taking it next chance i get   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "'Mountain's Toe'....how quaint. Hopefully it isn't infected."   Roqar: Okay Go Indy Jones Into the mine   Sirus: Sure.   Feralda the Elf Wizard Laughs   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Its probably infected with something that we wont like"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Toe jam"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Think I got a nice remedy for whatever ails it." lightly taps her gauntlets together.   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "The curse of athlete's foot be on this mine." Makes some witty reference to giant's toe being a valuable alchemical ingredient.
Dungeon Master (GM): the description is referring to where I will now ping   ROLO: i cast mage armor   Feralda: Yeah, me too   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: I suppose i'll have Dia do so as well? Lemme check   ROLO: Mage Armor Abjuration 1 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  Touch Target:  A willing creature who isn't wearing armor Components:  V, S, M (A piece of cured Leather) Duration:  8 hours Rolo, touches Rolo, who isn’t wearing armor, and a protective magical force surrounds the recipient until the spell ends. The target’s base AC becomes 13 + its Dexterity modifier. The spell ends if the target dons armor or if you dismiss the spell as an action. SPELL SAVE DC : 14   Roqar: I draw my short sword   Sirus: as Feralda yeets herself head-first into danger   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Time to be diplomatic"   Feralda: Well she's still some distance from the entrance. :P   ROLO: lol   Feralda: Unless the trees start attacking Can you tell I'm more used to playing front line martial classes?   Sirus: lol yes You're gonna need to learn to take on a new playstyle for Feralda   ROLO: wizard first   Marcuria Violezi: Squishy party members first! That way it's more sad when they get crushed   Sirus: woops   Feralda: Nah, I've learned from the best. Just run up to an enemy, set them on fire, then run away. Best way to assassinate someone.   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Diplomacy....yeah, don't mind if I be the bodyguard, then..."   Feralda: afk a minute   Dungeon Master (GM): when you approach you see two rodent looking humanoids in feminine clothing.   Sirus: check to tell what they are?   Dungeon Master (GM): ok if you want   Sirus: What skill?   Roqar the Elf Rogue "Good day" [In Common}   Feralda: I'm back   Dungeon Master (GM): a simple passive perception will do   Sirus: What's the target there?   Feralda: 24 | 21 PERCEPTION  (4) Feralda   Dungeon Master (GM): what target?   Sirus: I mean to pass passive perception   Feralda: I crit as I look at the rat people   Sirus: Avery has 17 passive perception   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, well, for all you know that could be a humanoid rat race or wererats   Avery the Half-Elf Bard Says: "Wererats?....this could be tricky."   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: Ok so Roqar said hello in common. I ...doubt they speak common, tho   Roqar: [Its Common or Elven all I got :P]   Rix -Female the WereRat Says: "And a Good Day to you all! What brings you to Mountain's Toe?!"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "We're escorting someone to do some mining here."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Huh. You can....ah, nevermind. Yeah, what she said. We're running escort duty for a friend. Has business here in this mine. You know who's in charge here at the moment?"   Feralda: I forget if the client was making a delivery, or wanted to start mining operations, or what.   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Yes, and that would be me, Don-Jon Raskin here. I was sent by a business consortium in Neverwinter city to have a look at the mine here, to see if it is still viable for mining."   Thime -Female the WereRat Says: "Hmm, Interesting, you might wish to talk to our boss Zeleen Varnaster."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Watches for rat folks reaction to meeting "The Owner"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yes, we'll definitely need a meeting with him, if you can fetch him please."   Rix -Female the WereRat Says: "I can escort you to Zeleen. It is not far inside."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Alright. Let's go, then."   Roqar the Elf Rogue [puzzles over the word Consortium wondering how else to use it in a sentence]
Rix -Female the WereRat Says: "Alright Follow me then."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Follows the group inside, and stays alert.   Dungeon Master (GM): The ceiling here is about 8 feet in height and braced at regular intervals by wooden pilasters and beams., Oil lanterns are lit and hanging from ceiling hooks.   Avery the Half-Elf Bard whispers to Feralda, "I'd be careful. Wererats have a tendency to not exactly be the most...honorable types. Not unreasonable, but not generous or kind, either."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yeah, kind of wish the boss came out here, and not have us go in..."   Rix -Female the WereRat Opens the door to Zeleen's area.   Sirus: i'll handle Dia and Farren btw. Someone else should handle moving Juan around I think   Feralda: Is anything visible up north?   Sirus: absolutely should be for Avery and Feralda because elf darkvision   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, I need to do some token stuff here so hold on   Sirus: sure.   Dungeon Master (GM): sigh, tokens are supposed to be male and what do you think WotC does...only have female tokens .... so whatever   Roqar the Elf Rogue Whispers to Marcy "Meeting their boss is where things get dicey"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Whispers back "I know. Be ready to let me take point if they get violent."   Rix -Female the WereRat Says: "Zeleen, we have visitors, One is a fellow from Neverwinter City representing a Business consortium."   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "Alright, Let them in."   Rix -Female the WereRat Says: "Right this way folks"   Feralda: I kind of want to leave a person to two out in the tunnel, to make sure the escape doesn't get blocked.   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "I am Zaleen Varnaster, Overseer of the folks here."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Seems we have to work out a deal of some kind, our boss wants to maybe start mining here"   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "Oh, he does?"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Will that be a problem for you?"   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Yes, my bosses sent me here to see if the mine can still be productive I have noted there are gold veins running through the walls here."   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "I see and what is in it for us? Are we to be chased out? We are here because raiding Orcs from Icespire peak chased us out of the abandoned temple of Savras."   [That's the Orc encampment the party had been to and worked out a deal to stop them from raiding.]   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Ask them if they know how to mine gold, and can sell it to Neverwinter."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Well, thats where we come in, I'm hoping we can work out a deal with everyone"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Well, it's not impossible for us to work something out. We already crushed a damn good number of those orcs."   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, Don-Jon repeats the question   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Hmm, yes, perhaps my bosses could use your muscle to help mine here."   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "No, none of us are miners by trade here."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Would you be willing to let others mine here? Maybe you folk can help them by cooking meals or something?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "You don't need skill to break rocks for ore, though. Roqar makes a good point. Still plenty of other ways you could prove useful to a mining operation. Even if it's just logistics."   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "Well, yes we would need some help and someone to teach us."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We dont want to chase you out, We are trying to work something out "   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "Do you wish to see the rest of the mine?"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yeah, it would be mean to chase out refugees."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Sure, Don Jon would like to see it, I'm sure"   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "We were thinking of going back to Savras (south of Conyberry) to rid of the mine with someone's help but your offer of employment while staying here, is acceptable."
Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Keep in mind, I need to inform the bosses of your wish to stay here and help us mine. I do not know if they will let you stay and work here. But I will do my best to convince them."   Roqar the Elf Rogue turns to Don Jon "Maybe these folk can be used for keeping the lights on or something?   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "I see. We would like to stay here."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yeah, they can protect the mine, while the workers work."   Zeleen Varnaster the Overseer Says: "Fair enough." Says: "You may examine the mine if you wish I will have a couple of my men guide you."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Speaking of which, Do you have to go back to Neverwinter? or are they coming here?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Sure. Let's take a look around real quick, then."   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Some folks are coming down in a few days and I will give them a report and they will report back to Neverwinter of my findings here."   Buddy D.: sorry yall I overslept   Dungeon Master (GM): Oh, Hello there Buddy!   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Lets look over the mine then, shall we?"   Buddy D.: sure   Dungeon Master (GM): [I don't think the guards at the entrance were supposed to be in wererat form, however, the module says you meet humans in Zeleen's area, yet they were the reverse.   Feralda: Lol ok   Roqar: haha whateva   ROLO: np   Buddy D.: np   Dungeon Master (GM): the current room you pass through has: Picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows are stored here.   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Don, think you'll find everything here you need to pick up mining operations again?"   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: “Well, it appears there is some equipment here, so maybe we won’t need to bring down too much more of it. It appears some of the stuff is sized for dwarves, so they must have worked here as well.”   Egghak the WereRat Says: "Eh, maybe you don't want to see this but there is a body here"   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "We use this cavern for sleeping as you can tell by the six cots here."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Its gonna have to go" the body that is   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Body....of who?"   Egghak the WereRat Says: "Beyond here there is a giant rat infestation. So, let's backtrack a bit."   Buddy D.: ok   Egghak the WereRat Says: "beyond that door to the east is another nasty creature we try to avoid."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We have magic that may clean them out, if you dont mind?"   ROLO: what kind   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "what kind of creature"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Looks like we may need to get rid of something after all."   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "This cavern is where Zeleen set up an office [visible are a desk, chair, chest and a cot.]"   Juan Denero: who is zeleen?   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "What kind of avoiding creature is it?"   Sirus: the boss of the mine   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "who is zeleen?" oh ok   Egghak the WereRat Says: "This looks to be a storage area for mined rocks and wheelbarrels here."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Good, they have a supply to sell already. If they want."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Yeah, right, so, whats beyond this door that you avoid?"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yeah, we'll need to deal with that before we leave."   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "Most of us sleep in this cave. [You see a dozen wooden cots here.]"   ROLO: u want me to check it out with invisibility   Sirus: not really needed.
Roqar: Or send the bat again?   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Thinking the same thing. We could probably take care of things here for you guys, if it helps."   Egghak the WereRat Says: "We keep supplies here, mostly food and water. [You see crates and casks here.]"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Sure. The essentials."   Roqar: Roqar opens the door   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "Looks like they stored the wooden posts for shoring up the place here. [You see many big wooden posts leaning against the walls here.]"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Alright. Feel like i've seen enough...nothing too out of the ordinary here, after all. Just a few small problems to take care of."   Egghak the WereRat Says: "We use this cave to store the crates and casks we emptied out, for use later."   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "That's pretty much what we can show you without dealing with the vermits here."   Roqar: Whats beyond the door?   Dungeon Master (GM): [The door where Roqar is, they mentioned a creature resides beyond it.   Feralda: Ye, less dew eet.   Roqar: Roqar opened it or tried to   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Yeah, let's get this thing dealt with."   Feralda: Everyone hold an attack action, throw open the door, and blast the nearest thing that looks hostile. :P   Sirus: lol not too far off, Marcy is ready to attac   Feralda: Although fair chance its just a big teddy bear that these guys are still afraid of.   Sirus: I imagine it's a colossal rat or something   Egghak the WereRat Says: "Hey, Go right ahead if you want, it's some big creepy crawly thing with tentacles."   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "we like creepy crawly things to kill"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Tentacles? Is there a body of water in there?" Oh god no, it's a roper.   ROLO: invisble to check first   Tavvan the WereRat Says: "No water as far as I remember no."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Let's play this smart. Rolo, you're up."   ROLO: carrion crawler   Feralda: Taking bets, who wants to guess what this is?   ROLO: i turn invisble to check first   Sirus: mmh   Roqar: 5 gp says Carrion Crawler   Sirus: Ok, so Marcy will go open the door and Rolo can proceed forward   ROLO: then message the party   Sirus: My vote is Roper then   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   ROLO: np for the party   Feralda: 5gp on roper Since that was my first guess   ROLO: carrion crawler   Dungeon Master (GM): where are you looking as Rolo enters the passage?   ROLO: do i see any thing   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, well not until you reach the stairs and you spot something on the ceiling.   ROLO: i message party   Feralda: On the ceiling, you say? Like a living stalagmite with 50 ft long tentacles? Or stalagtite   ROLO: i meessage the description   Sirus: lol chad, ease off   ROLO: do i know what it is   Roqar: or a millipede with tentacles?   Feralda: Sorry. :P   Sirus: Let the GM do his job   Dungeon Master (GM): no, it appears to be like a caterpillar with tentacles   ROLO: carrrioncrawler   Feralda: Oh, I was wrong.   ROLO: is there only one   Feralda: I don't even know what carrion crawlers do.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, make your plan of attack here and Roll Initiative rolls   Feralda: Feralda, the Elf Wizard, gets ready to make an attack move! INITIATIVE ROLL: 4.16 Only one Init Roll shown to save space!
ROLO: old school Sirus: NO.         Roqar: Pay up Pay up Sirus: Oof, nice one. Ok so we do sort of need a plan This is narrow corridor fighting   Dungeon Master (GM): Buddy, roll Init for Juan!   Sirus: Which could go so, SO wrong, so fast.   ROLO: is it still on the ceiling   Dungeon Master (GM): yes it's on the ceiling   Feralda: I have firsthand experience with the bad things that happen in narrow corridors.   Roqar: How high is the ceiling?   ROLO: do i know what it is   Dungeon Master (GM): 8 ft   Sirus: A risky but useful option would be for Rolo to go on the other side of the Car-Crawler, slap it with a fireball as an Unseen Attack, and then Marcuria goes at it from the other side with a buff or two to protect herself from getting paralyzed. one other melee-centric person could probably go in alongside Marcy to back her up   ROLO: mesage party that iwill pass it and hit it with a fireball   Sirus: And basically Marcy can keep the aggro off of Rolo. ...wait Rolo is at risk of hitting himself with his own fireball?   Dungeon Master (GM): by the way the crawler is behaving like it knows something is around but of course can't see it.   ROLO: what is up here   Dungeon Master (GM): I will will roll Juan's Init   Feralda: It can smell you.   ROLO: when ca   Feralda: A smelly smell that smells...smelly....   Sirus: slow, lol. : ROUND 1 Feralda , it's now your turn!   Feralda: Haste Transmutation 3 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  30 feet Target:  A willing creature that you can see within range Components:  V, S, M (A shaving of licorice root) Duration:  Concentration Up to 1 minute Feralda chooses Marcuria that she can see within range. Until the spell ends, the target’s speed is doubled, it gains a +2 bonus to AC, it has advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and it gains an additional action on each of its turns. That action can be used only to take the Attack (one weapon attack only), Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Use an Object action. When the spell ends, the target can’t move or take actions until after its next turn, as a wave of lethargy sweeps over it. SPELL SAVE DC : 16 SPELL SLOT LEVEL 31 OF 2 REMAINING   ROLO: fire ball whatis up here   Sirus: Avery has first move guys after Rolo : Feralda 's turn is done. Avery , it's now your turn!   Feralda: Oh, reorder the inti, plsthc   Sirus: or...before kek   Avery: Enhance Ability Transmutation 2 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  Touch Target:  A creature Components:  V, S, M (Fur or a feather from a beast) Duration:  Concentration Up to 1 hour Avery lays a hand upon Marcuria, and bestows a magical enhancement. Choose one of the following effects; the target gains that effect until the spell ends. Bear's Endurance. The target has advantage on Constitution checks. It also gains 2d6 temporary hit points, which are lost when the spell ends: Bull's Strength. The target has advantage on Strength checks, and his or her carrying capacity doubles. Cat's Grace. The target has advantage on Dexterity checks. It also doesn't take damage from falling 20 feet or less if it isn't incapacitated. Eagle's Splendor. The target has advantage on Charisma checks. Fox's Cunning. The target has advantage on Intelligence checks. Owl's Wisdom. The target has advantage on Wisdom checks.   At Higher Levels .  When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 2nd. SPELL SLOT LEVEL 22 OF 3 REMAINING   Sirus: Bear's Endurance. Con advantage. for Marcy.   Dungeon Master (GM): alrirght   Sirus: rolling 2d6( 4 + 3 ) = 7 Also 7 temp HP   Dungeon Master (GM): so 7 temporary hp   Sirus: eot : Avery 's turn is done.
Rolo , it's now your turn!   ROLO: fireball Fireball Evocation 3 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  150 ft; 20 ft sphere Components:  V, S, M (a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur) Duration:  Instantaneous A bright streak flashes from Rolo's pointing finger to a point he chooses within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes  25  fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried. At Higher Levels .  When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd. SPELL SAVE DC : 14 SPELL SLOT LEVEL 30 OF 2 REMAINING   Dungeon Master (GM): looks like that fireball will engulf the entire passage   ROLO: can i see what is farther up   Sirus: 20 foot radius looks like that, from what I can see Centered on the crawler ....or... Actually, I think that may end up hitting Juan.   Dungeon Master (GM): it's not going to stay a radius in a passage, it will conform it's entire volume to the passage!   Sirus: So both Rolo and Juan are going to get hit by it   ROLO: k   Juan Denero: oh shiat   Sirus: .....Sister Geraele, we need more burn healing again   ROLO: can i cast it from here   Sirus: I think it's still going to hit you even if you go all the way up there. It's going to fill the entire passage up to the door with flames, if what GM is saying is right.   Dungeon Master (GM): The burst of the fireball does not expend a considerable amount of pressure, and the burst will generally conform to the shape of the area in which it occurs, thus covering an area equal to its normal spherical volume. [The area which is covered by the fireball is a total volume of 33,510 cubic feet (33.5, 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes)].   Feralda: Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Probably not the best place to fireball. As much as I do love burning my enemies."   Sirus: Yep. So that means the crawler, Rolo and Juan all are going to take damage... Note to self: NEVER use Fireball in close confines ever.   ROLO: thatis why i wanted to know what was up here   Feralda: Yeah, I doubt we need to resort to big AoE moves against one enemy. Unless the crawler has a lot of health.   ROLO: if i casted from here would i have taken damge   Dungeon Master (GM): I will let you use that protective thing if they fail their saves however that shielding will displace the fireball say in an area 1 ft around them so basically displacing 3 ft and would knock them prone.   Sirus: I think that would only work if Feralda cast it.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Roqar: OOC Dont know 5e that well but in 1e CC got 8 attacks/ round save or paralyzed   Feralda: Yeah, that's a school of evocation ability. Not a basic class ability.   Dungeon Master (GM): rolo and juan make your saving throws   ROLO: rolling 1d20 + 3( 19 )+3 = 22   Sirus: half damage for Rolo   Dungeon Master (GM): basically the fireball extends 16.5 squares in either direction from the crawl crawler   ROLO: how much i use my wardto take it   Sirus: What about a roll for the crawler btw?   Juan Denero: 12 | 8 CONSTITUTION SAVE  (3) Juan Denero   Dungeon Master (GM): it's 6 squares to the door where Avery is   Sirus: Dex, not con Avery is behind a door   Juan Denero: 6 | 18 DEXTERITY SAVE  (2) Juan Denero   Sirus: ....25 damage to Juan.   Dungeon Master (GM): say 7 out to the outside where rolo is   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "ahhhh itttzzz burrrrnnnnnzzz us" Says: "lol"   Feralda: That looks like an exit to the outside. Imagine if we decided to go in the back way, and encountered the crawler first. :P   ROLO: how much halfed   Dungeon Master (GM): rolo needs to be in the line of sight of the crawler he can't be there, unless he aim at a location near the crawler instead. the exit to the outside is 20 feet up the side of a cliff. 13 for half damage
ROLO: ty my ward takes 11 hp of it   Dungeon Master (GM): they both took full damage unless an ability gave them an advantage   Sirus: ? No, Rolo succeeded the dex save   Feralda: We keep hurting our friends due to unexpected fireball related consequences.   Sirus: There's a dex save to take halved damage I thought   Dungeon Master (GM): opps ok I was seeing Juan twice there   ROLO: did the creature fail st   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: Rolo takes halved, Juan takes full, crawler takes idk Rolo has a ward up apparently?   Dungeon Master (GM): Dexterity Carrion Crawler Ability:  13  |  21   Sirus: Crawler eats full damage   Dungeon Master (GM): yes 25 on the crawler   ROLO: as bonus action ward   Sirus: Yeah so that eats 11 of the damage so Rolo only takes 2 damage?   Dungeon Master (GM): you both are knocked onto your asses and it knocks the crawler off the ceiling   ROLO: yep   Dungeon Master (GM): facing juan   ROLO: falling dam?   Sirus: 8 ft 0 damage?   Dungeon Master (GM): I will say the door was closed so no one else took damage.   Feralda: Nice   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Rolo, you idiot...."   Dungeon Master (GM): I was going to roll on that though   Sirus: oh ok   Dungeon Master (GM): since no one mentioned about the state of the door.   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "i smell bacon .....OH SHIT.....That smell is my face!"   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so Juan is on his ass this round : Rolo 's turn is done. Juan Denero , it's now your turn! Juan Denero 's turn is done. Dia Xiloscient , it's now your turn!   Juan Denero: yup   Sirus: Ok so Juan is prone. He can use all of his movement speed to stand up if memory serves   Feralda: Half movement   Sirus: ah yeah. So he can use half of his movement to un-prone himself GM ?   Dungeon Master (GM): yes   Sirus: Juan might still be able to do something, I think He can use half movement to stand up   Dungeon Master (GM): NO!   Sirus: ...jezus   Dungeon Master (GM): it's dia's turn now   Sirus: you dont gotta shout at me : x Ok ok lemme see   Dungeon Master (GM): be happy I just have it 1 round to get back up and didn't do a 1d4   Sirus: Mmh.   Dia Xiloscient: Longstrider Transmutation 1 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  Touch Target:  A creature Components:  V, S, M (A pinch of dirt) Duration:  1 hour Dia Xiloscient, casts the spell upon Marcuria. The target’s speed increases by 10 feet until the spell ends. At Higher Levels .  When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 1st. SPELL SLOT LEVEL 12 OF 4 REMAINING   Sirus: Marcy gets +10 move speed, eot.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok : Dia Xiloscient 's turn is done. Marcuria , it's now your turn!   Sirus: Right so   Marcuria Violezi: Rage Marcuria Violezi Class: Barbarian In battle, you fight with primal ferocity. On your turn, you can enter a rage as a bonus action. While raging, you gain the following benefits if you aren’t wearing heavy armor: -You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. -When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a bonus to the damage roll that increases as you gain levels as a barbarian, as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian table. -You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. If you are able to cast spells, you can’t cast them or concentrate on them while raging. Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage on your turn as a bonus action. Once you have raged the number of times shown for your barbarian level in the Rages column of the Barbarian table, you must finish a long rest before you can rage again.   Form Of The Beast Marcuria Violezi Class: Path of the Beast When you enter your rage, you can transform, revealing the bestial power within you. Until the rage ends, you manifest a an aspect of your inner beast. Any weapons manifested count as simple melee weapon for you, and you add your Strength modifier to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with it, as normal. You choose the form of your manifestation each time you rage: Bite. Your mouth transforms into a bestial muzzle or great mandibles (your choice). It deals 1d8 piercing damage on a hit. Once on each of your turns when you damage a creature with this bite, you regain a number of hit points equal to twice your proficiency bonus. Carapace. Your skin hardens into tough hide or chitin. Your hit point maximum and current hit points increase by your barbarian level plus your consitution modifier. In addition, you have a +2 bonus to your Armor Class. Claws. Each of your hands transforms into a claw, which you can use as a weapon if it's empty. It is a light weapon that deals 1d6 slashing damage on a hit. It counts as a held weapon for the purposes of two-weapon fighting. Once on each of your turns when you attack with a claw using the Attack action, you can make one additional claw attack as part of the same action. Tail. You grow a lashing, spiny tail. It is a heavy weapon which deals 1d10 piercing damage on a hit and has the reach property. If a creature you can see within 10 feet of you hits you with an attack roll, you can use your reaction to swipe your tail and roll a d10, applying a bonus to your AC equal to the number rolled, potentially causing the attack to miss you. Wings. A set of wings sprout from your back. You gain flying speed equal to your walking speed.   Tail Marcuria Violezi Feat: Form of the Beast You grow a lashing, spiny tail. It is a heavy weapon which deals 1d10 piercing damage on a hit and has the reach property. "No, we're not rodents. We're adventurers, let's say. What... are  you all doing up in here anyways? You look absolutely starved.   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "dwarfs why are yall here"   ROLO: are they armed   Dwarf the Miner Says: "Eh, no, and we never found keys either. They just came right on in and attacked us, trying to drive us out. We wound up having to bury 10 of our members in the aftermath."   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "That's terrible..."   Dungeon Master (GM): it looks like they have clubs for weapons.   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Not exactly the diplomatic approach..."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Marcuria started to look quite agitated now, and it showed on her face. Says: "...Don..? I think we should have a little, brief  chit-chat ..."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Not the kind of thing someone needing a safe refuge does to others"
Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Yes, mame, go right ahead."   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "Dwarves..... What is up here through this door?"   Dungeon Master (GM): just an empty cavern where Juan is   Buddy D.: ok   Dungeon Master (GM): with a passage leading out it's east side   Buddy D.: oh ok   Feralda: Out of the mountain? So they're really not trapped here.   Dwarf the Miner Says: "It's just a cave with a passage that eventually goes back outside."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Heads out of ear shot of the were-rats, motioning for Don-Jon to follow, so they could not be overheard, before speaking up, albeit in a quieter tone than usual.   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "I wanted to make friends with the refugees, but killing ten people really won't sound good to the higher ups."   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "you need back up marcy?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "The dwarves here first. If we're going to be making a deal with, not these rats..."   Sirus: Marcy is fine   Buddy D.: ok   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "I don't think it's a good idea to reward the Wererats for barging in here when the dwarves already had a claim on it."   Don-Jon Raskin the Says: "Yes, yes, plus I would not trust them to stay here and wait for my contacts. They need to know first the wererats are here."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "....I'm thinking we're going to kick the rats out of here. We can make an arrangement with the dwarves after. But first...you any good in a fight?"   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "I don't know if we could convince both parties to live and work together here, not to mention if they will all eventually be wererats."   ROLO: is there a leader among the dwarfs i message the dwarf that was talking   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "I have a dagger and sling on me." ok rolo what do you mention to the dwarf?   ROLO: yes   Marcuria Violezi: Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Alright. Then i'd say, don't wander too far off. Stick close, so you don't get surrounded. Good chance this gets ugly."   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "right, right."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Nods and goes to talk to the others. Says: "...Guys? Huddle up. We need to talk about something."   ROLO: k   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Sur, Marcuria."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Hushes her voice again, before continuing with, "I don't think we can let the wererats stay here. It's not going to work out, having both the dwarves and the rats here."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "Yeah, ten Dwarf bodies says these two groups are not going to get along well."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Naw, its not, time to move em out"   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "We need to find a new place for these wererats to stay."   ROLO: i message marcuria lets round them up for my last fireball   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Where they go next isn't really our concern. The dwarves are, as well as making sure Don-Jon gets what he wants."   Feralda the Elf Wizard Says: "If we just kick them out, and do nothing, they'll probably come back. They need a place to go."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...We'll see. I think we'll all get together as a group, give them the message they aren't going to be staying here. If they decide to fight us, then we'll crush them flat together."   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "I agree marcy"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "So the question is, how badly do they want to stay?"   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "thats a great point Roqar. How much of a fight will they be"   Sirus: Ok, one thing. Can Avery do a check to recall more specifically what Wererats can do?   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "were-rats can get their asses kicked by us"   Dungeon Master (GM): She never encountered a wererat prior to now however   ROLO: brb restroom
Sirus: Yeah but she is a college of lore bard. She could have possibly read about them   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so she can roll on it then   Sirus: What skill? Insight?   Dungeon Master (GM): sounds good   Avery: 5 | 21 INSIGHT  (4) Avery   Sirus: awesome.   Dungeon Master (GM): no luck there   Sirus: ffs mental blank.   Dia Xiloscient: 20 | 10 INSIGHT  (3) Dia Xiloscient   Sirus: Dia might have read about it tho?   ROLO: would i know anything about wererats?   Dungeon Master (GM): you basically know the general stuff about them, like needing silver weapons or magical ones to hurt them you know that getting bit by one means you will likely become a wererat.   ROLO: good news   Dia Xiloscient the Elf Wizard Says: "If you're planning to risk fighting these rats, i'd advise against it. They're lycanthropes. If you don't have a magic weapon, you can't hurt it. Not to mention, they can infect you with lycanthropy as well...."   Avery the Half-Elf Bard Says: ".....Oh....I see. Feralda is right, then....we need to figure out someplace else to put them."   ROLO: how many werats did we see   Sirus: 10? I want to say? Yeah no we can't fight those, we gonna die, pretty sure.   Dungeon Master (GM): 11 of them   ROLO: and we dont have silver weapons   Buddy D.: you are right, ooc I have magic weapons but thats some big target to kill without all of what we need   Sirus: That and no way to avoid getting lycanthropy.   Buddy D.: yup   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Blast....I guess you're right. Ok, so we need to figure out somewhere they could go and have for a home.....anyone know the area around here well enough?"   Feralda: Yeah, if you're gonna be a lycanthrope, at least turn into a wolf or bear, or something cool.   Roqar: Only way is to split them up   ROLO: were can we get our weapons silverd   Sirus: Not anywhere here, that's for sure.   ROLO: message cantrip   Dungeon Master (GM): blacksmith in Phandalin, and one in Conyberry are closests.   Roqar: maybe Phadalin if not Neverwinter   Sirus: Ofc i'm sure that'll be far too expensive if the option is even available. Probably in our best interest to try and defuse the situation peacefully   Dungeon Master (GM): you will need silver to smelt of course   Sirus: Mhm yep. We don't have any silver.   Feralda: Yeah, I'd rather not kill people who aren't currently hostile. Although they need to make reparations for ten dead Dwarves.   Roqar: melt some coins hehe   Feralda: Yeah, how many silver pieces we got?   Sirus: sure.  melts all of Roqar's silver into a small cup's worth, enough to silver one finger of a gauntlet   Feralda: No, drip it on the knuckles.   Roqar: Oh No Not my coins   Sirus: lol it's unreasonable to expect us doing that this early on. Not unless we find like a bar of solid silver. Melting down coins is likely to not be enough Without basically dumping ALL of our silver And we might actually need some SP for random nonsense   Dungeon Master (GM): you could probably go all the way to Neverwinter to purchase silver bars or by way of the lionshield coster in Phadelin whom would still need a shipment from Neverwinter.   Sirus: Nah, for now let's just see about trying to move the wererats.   Roqar: So we have 2-3 magic weapons and spells   ROLO: message we could tell them we found a better home   Sirus: We need to actually FIND them a better home first. Marcy will go to talk to Don-Jon and see if he has any ideas.   ROLO: were we cleared the orcs   Sirus: Circle of Thunder, you mean? That's a bit of a trek....   Dungeon Master (GM): [That would be a small cave at Wyvern Tor]   Roqar: There was a manse in the woods   Sirus: Somehow I don't think they'll take the small cave over this much more spacious one   ROLO: there was a fort   Sirus: The fort, perhaps yeah.   Buddy D.: Sorry Yall I have to go we are getting hammered here in San Antonio with a storm seeking shelter   Dungeon Master (GM): closest to a fort would be the hunter's lodge
you have the run down castle where the goblins are   Feralda: Get to safety, Bud.   Roqar: No the manse the Druid helped us find   Dungeon Master (GM): that's an option so you can mention it.   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Goes to talk to Don-Jon again. "Alright. Look, we need to get the were-rats out, but....well, starting to realize we might not be equipped to deal with them harshly. You happen to know any other places in the area where a bunch of wererats could live without disturbing somebody else's work?   ROLO: hope your ok   Roqar: Not kicking Falcon out of his lodge after fighting to retake it   Feralda: No, that'd be weird.   Don-Jon Raskin the Miner Says: "Me? Heck no, do you know anyone around here that knows the backwoods or other caves?"   Sirus: That wouldn't be very heroic. Does she? Falcon, I suppose?   Roqar: Roqar knows the woods around the Hunters lodge and the Manse and Palys mansion Falcon or the Druid in Thundertree   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "....Might be a couple of people...alright. Thanks anyways..."   Dungeon Master (GM): yes those two would be in the know of the area   Roqar: We can find the manse its not that bad for rats   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Alright. Here's what we're thinking. The wererats seem calm for now. We let them know they have to move, but that we're going to find someplace else they could set themselves up, where they don't make life difficult for the dwarves. Falcon could probably help us out there. Unless you have a better idea, Roqar?"   ROLO: were any of the werrats short like dwarfs?   Dungeon Master (GM): I guess i will roll to see if they would consider but it will be a tough roll say 10% chance no so far they are all human sized and look human.   ROLO: what do the dwarfs want?   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "The manse where the dam Orcs were, its not bad not close to anything out in the woods"   Dungeon Master (GM): [They'll need a new tub!]   Sirus: oof lol   Roqar: We can give them a big barrel F'em not getting mine   Dungeon Master (GM): ha!   ROLO: lol suprised u didnt ask them for a bath   Sirus: The fact that the GM is gonna make it be very very hard to convince the wererats to move elsewhere makes me think the GM wants this to turn into a fight Which we are so very much not ready for.   Feralda: Lol, yeah I think the ten dead Dwarves was supposed to get a stronger reaction. :P If my character was a Dwarf, he'd be pounding heads right now.   Sirus: Marcy  actually  can't do shit here, being one of the larger downsides. We may actually have to leave and come back better prepared.   Roqar: Marcy can have my magic longsword I'll use my magic shortsword   ROLO: will the dwarfs leave with us   Sirus: She's no good with weapons. That's not gonna pan out.   Dungeon Master (GM): If you leave you'll have several stubborn dwarves whom are basically starving themselves to stay put.   Feralda: The "Eww, Dwarves" thing might have been a little mean, but gotta play that stereotype at least once. They are voluntarily starving themselves to death.   Dungeon Master (GM): well these dwarves do smell   Sirus: If we try to force the wererats out, they'll fight us and there's a very good chance we're going to get wiped, I think.   ROLO: im worried they will be turned to a wererat message   Roqar: Heres an idea worked in a game on Twitch, Hold the rats down force feed them silver coins   Feralda: Nuu   Dungeon Master (GM): oh geez   ROLO: and then we will have more to contend with   Sirus: That would work if there weren't 11 of them. ....Ok, feeling an idea. If we were to try and get our hands on some silver, how many days do you figure it would take to get a bar of silver, silver our weapons and come back? GM Going the route of getting some from Neverwinter/Phandalin?   Dungeon Master (GM): i think it was a 70 mile trip from phandalin to neverwinter then at least two days in neverwinter then a return trip to phandalin   Sirus: ...2-3 days. Okay. I am thinking that Juan could use Create Food and Water, and everyone could spare 1 ration pack for the dwarves to keep them from starving   Dungeon Master (GM): then it depends on how many weapons get silvered   Sirus: And we could see about silvering up.   Feralda: It's gonna take a weak or two to do this, so we have a chance at beating 11 Wererats. As opposed to trying to get them to relocate voluntarily.   Dungeon Master (GM): oh at least 2 weeks easily   ROLO: fireball is a option   Dungeon Master (GM): that should soften them up yes   Roqar: Fireball is ALWAYS an option :P   Feralda: It is, but it's not the only option.   ROLO: if get a rest 2 fireballs   Sirus: So many things would have to work properly
Ok so let's say that we managed to get all the wererats into a room The ceiling is 8 feet tall So the radius of fireball is going to spread hard   ROLO: tell them our leader wants to meet them   Feralda: I feel like there's a small chance that using fireballs here could cause a cave in.   Dungeon Master (GM): which means that planned fireball on the rats would have extended 2 * 33 ft farther than where roqar was by the door   ROLO: im sure if we get there leader they will run   Sirus: No, not a cave in, but the ceiling is low enough to make fireball EXTRA dangerous in here because of how the fire will spread through the cavern If we did do this, I think it would be better if Feralda lead   Feralda: Feralda is still trying the diplomatic approach. :P   Sirus: So that dudes ain't getting fucking toasted again Yeah, Avery will want to try diplomacy first.   ROLO: or we could go invisble and kill leader when they sleep   Sirus: And the others?   ROLO: fireball   Dungeon Master (GM): Ok, we should stop here. You guys can discuss it farther in the general discussion thread of course, until we resume next session.   Feralda: Why are we suddenly murderhobos now? Or was the murderhobo inside us all along?   Sirus: Because some of us don't want a 2 week quest just to properly fight wererats and the GM wants to make it extremely hard to coerce the wererats into leaving 10% chance, he said   ROLO: im a drow its natral   Feralda: Ok.   Dungeon Master (GM): because the module basically states they would be stubborn about leaving.   ROLO: ty guys later   Feralda: Later. I need some lunch anyway.   ROLO: so   Dungeon Master (GM): and my Mom wants to go for a 5 mile walk   Feralda: Not gonna blame you for sticking with the module script.   ROLO: lunch yes   Roqar: Lunch CYAnext week   ROLO: np ty guys yep later   Dungeon Master (GM): I just wish WotC would hire folks that know how to put a module together...I mean with having the tokens as wererats outside then telling you they are human in the text in the next encounter, yet only having human female tokens and they were all wererats at first too.   Sirus: lol Smooth one. Ok yea we can discuss this in forum See you.   Dungeon Master (GM): yes disccuss there! Thanks for playing today and see you all next week!
