A low ridge rises to your right, beyond which you see the Sword Mountains scrape the gray sky. But closer in, something is strewn across the rocky ground ninety feet ahead. They are clad in hide armor, and their greataxes and javelins litter the ground around them. Dia managed to discern that this group of orcs suffered very severe frostbite and that it appers to have been at least 3 days since they died. Nothing of any value was found on the orcs. The part moved onwards a bit more and set up a camp for the night so they can explore the mine in the morning. They managed to get a good rest without creatures disturbing the campsite. When they reach the entrance of the mine, this is what they see. Hidden among bushes, a tunnel burrows into the foot of a soaring, snow-capped mountain. Above the mouth of the tunnel is a wooden plank with the words “Mountain’s Toe” carved into it in the Common language. Marcuria says, “Mountain’s Toe… How quaint. Hopefully it isn’t infected”. Feralda laughs. Roqar says, “Its probably infected with something that we won’t like”. Feralda says, “Toe jam”. Marcuria says, “Think I got a nice remedy for whatever ails it”. Then lightly taps her gauntlets together. Feralda says, “The curse of athlete’s foot be on this mine”. Rolo, casts the mage armor spell upon himself before going inside the mine, giving him protection the equivalent of a chain shirt for 8 hours. As the party gets closer two feminine rat-like humanoids are standing at the entrance keeping watch. Roqar greets the guards and they are greeted back. Roqar explains that they are escorting someone to have a look at the mine and Don-Jon Raskin tells them that a business consortium in Neverwinter city sent him here to see if it was still viable for mining. The guard Thime, tells Don-Jon that he might wish to talk to her boss Zeleen Varnaster. It is Rix that leads the party inside the mine to guide them to where Overseer Zeleen is. The ceiling of the mine is about 8 feet in height and braced at  regular intervals by wooden pilasters and beams. Oil lanterns are lit and hanging from ceiling hooks. They are lead into a cavern with at least 11 humans, the only female present currently is Zeleen. During the meeting they learn that the wererats were originally staying at the Shrine of Savras and that the orcs drove them out and took it for themselves. This was the group of orcs the adventurers made a deal with so that they would stop their raids on the Triboar trail and the town of Conyberry. The party tries to see if the wererats would be willing to help mine for the gold in the mine. It appears that they are willing to help so long as they could stay here. Zeleen lets the party have a look at the mine with Egghak and Tavvan guiding them. The first cavern they come to, to the east, is used as a storage room with picks, shovels and wheelbarrows being stored here.  In the next area they are informed of a body being in the area. To the east of this area is a cavern used for sleeping as there are six cots here. They come to an area where they are informed of a giant rat infestation, (3 feet long variety) and are told that the wererats avoid an area beyond a door to the east and then backtrack. Next up they are shown Zeleen’s office inside another cavern. Its furnishings include a desk, chair, a wooden chest and a cot. Next they are shown an area with two wheelbarrows and an empty bin.  Then a cavern with a dozen cots is shown to the party next. Then they are shown a cavern where there are a dozen crates of dry food stuff and nine casks of water, all stacked in the middle of the area. The next cavern shown holds wooden posts, leaning against the walls, used for shoring up the tunnels and caves.  The next cavern is where they stored the emptied out crates and casks.  Tavvan now informs the party that they have seen all of the caves where they wouldn’t have to deal with any vermin. When Roqar insists on opening a door into one of the avoided areas, Egghak, informs that it’s some big creepy crawly thing with tentacles. So Rolo casts the Invisibility spell upon himself and enters the area and when he comes to a flight of stairs going up, he spots a carrion crawler, on the ceiling above it. The creature senses his presence but cannot see where he is. Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins: Feralda, casts the Haste spell upon Marcuria so that she gains double the normal movement speed and  a +2 bonus to armor class, which lasts for one minute. Avery, casts the Enhanced Ability spell upon Marcuria, giving her the Bears Endurance ability, giving her advantage on constitution checks and 2d6 extra temporary hit points for up to one hour. Rolo, decides to cast the Fireball spell, in spite of the fact that it would also catch himself and Juan in the blast area. The burst of the fireball does not expend a considerable amount of pressure, and the burst will generally conform to the shape of the area in which it occurs, thus covering an area equal to its normal spherical volume of a 20 ft radius. [The area which is covered by the fireball is a total volume of 33,510 cubic feet (33.5, 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes)].   After dexterity saving throws Rolo takes 13 damage, Juan and the crawler take 25 damage, Rolo and Juan are knocked prone as is the crawler as it loses it’s grip on the ceiling.  Juan says, “I smell bacon… Oh Shit!... That smell is my face!” Juan is now prone so cannot do anything this round. Dia, casts the Longstrider spell upon Marcuria, extending her movement speed another 10 feet. Roqar, slashed the prone Carrion Crawler for 6 damage with the magical +1 Talon long sword! Farren, slashed the Carrion Crawler with the Ninjatō  (Japanese short sword), for 8 damage and is able to use his Flurry of Blows ability to strike the creature 2 more times, one of them hitting for 11 more damage! [Opps! Carrion Crawler should have been stunned here still, but he attacked!] Carrion Crawler, bites Farren for 6 poison venom damage and failing his constitution save rolling an 8 needing ≥ 13 he becomes paralyzed and so the Crawler tried to bite but could not! Marcuria, used her Rage ability and her Form of the Beast ability to create a tail on her. The tail whips at the Carrion Crawler dealing 10 + 2 rage damage and defeats the creature! End of Combat!   Avery casts Lesser Restoration upon Farren, to clear him of the paralyzation poison and he is able to move now. Avery then casts Healing Word upon Juan restoring 5+7 more at higher level casting, hit points. Parts of the carrion crawler are taken in the hope of selling it. Looking outside where the passage ends 20 ft above the ground leading to the outside, he can clearly see ten burial mounds in a ring, with a pickaxe sticking out of each one. The party then moves to the area where the giant rats are and tries to rid of them. Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins: Avery just dashes towards a spot near the rats. Marcuria, missed a Giant Rat #05, with a gauntlet punch! Feralda, casts the Burning Hands spell, dealing 18 fire damage to Giant Rats #01, 02 & 03 as all 3 fails their Dexterity save rolling below a Dice Challenge level of 16! This defeats all three rodents! Juan, pounds Giant Rat #04 with the magicaling +1 Lightbringer mace, hitting for 5 damage! Rogar runs towards Giant Rat #04, with her magical boots of striding, and slashed the rodent for 6 damage with the magical +1 Talon long sword, defeating it!
2 nd Attacks for Round 1: Marcuria, pounds Giant Rat #05 for 11 bludgeoning damage with her 2 nd bonus attack, defeating him! End of Combat! Nothing of value is found upon the rodent bodies. When asked if there were anymore threats inside the mine Tavven says he doesn’t think so. Don-Jon asks about looking beyond the door just to the south of the cavern the giant rats were in.  Egghak saying that, that may not be a good idea, as they could be nastier than the rats and carrion crawler. Juan, opens the door to see three dwarves, looking filthy and starved. Juan says, “What the hell’s this?!” A dwarf says, “Who are you? Another Rodent”?! Marcuria says, “Alright. What gives here?...”, turning to the were-rats with a less than approving look. Egghak says, “Look, ok, they were here when we got here and wouldn’t leave, the stubborn fools. So we just let them be”. Feralda says, “Dwarves are known for being stubborn, yes”. Rogar says to the dwarves, “We are here to explore this mine, why are you guys here”? Marcuria says, “Well, you’re not going to convince them to leave by locking them up and starving them half to death either”!  Juan says, “Did these folks imprison you”? Egghak says, “Eh, they were not locked up, hell we never found any keys for this place”. Avery says, “No, we’re not rodents. We’re adventurers, let’s say. What … are you all doing up in here anyways? You look absolutely starved”. Dwarf says, “Eh, no we never found keys either. They (the were-rats), just came right on in and attacked us, trying to drive us out. We wound up having to bury ten of our members in the aftermath”. Juan says, “That’s terrible…”. Feralda says, “Not exactly the diplomatic approach…” Juan, as a look past the north door of the carven and sees it is an empty cavern area, and sees a passage to the east. A Dwarf says, “it’s just a cave with a passage that eventually goes back outside”. Marcuria has Don-Jon come down a passage to have a chat with him. She tells him the dwarves were here first so that’s whom to make a deal with and not the were-rats, as they will be kicked out. Don-Jon mentions that even if both parties were convinced to stay here and help work the mine, the were-rats could wind up turning anyone staying here into were-rats as well. Marcuria asks Don-Jon if he could fight and he mentions he has a dagger and sling on him.  She tells him to stay put as she goes back to the others. Marcuria tells the party she don’t think they should let the wererats stay here. Feralda says, “Yea, ten dwarf bodies says these two groups are not going to get along well. We need to find a new place for these were-rats to stay”. Marcuria says, “Where they go next isn’t really our concern. The dwarves are, as well as making sure Don-Jon gets what he wants”. Feralda says, “If we just kick them out and do nothing, they’ll probably come back. They need a place to go”. Marcuria says, “We’ll see. I think we’ll all get together as a group, give them the message they aren’t going to be staying here. If they decide to fight us, then we’ll crush them together”. Roqar says, “So the question is, how badly  they want to stay”?, Juan says, “That’s a great point Roqar. How much of a fight will they be”? Dia chimes in mentioning they are lycanthropes and that if they don’t have magic or silvered weapons, they cannot be hurt. Not to mention, they can infect you with lycanthropy as well. Avery says, “… Oh… I see. Feralda is right, then… We need to find someplace else to put them. Marcuria says, "...Blast....I guess you're right. Ok, so we need to figure out somewhere they could go and have for a home.....anyone know the area around here well enough?"   Marcuria goes to Don-Jon again to tell him the party may not be equipped to handle the number of were-rats present and if he knows of any other place in the area that they could live without disturbing somebody elses work. Don-Jon tells her he has no idea if if she knows anyone that knows the backwoods and caves in the area. Marcuria tells him she knows a couple of people, (Reidoth the druid and Falcon the hunter).   Marcuria goes back to Roqar and says, "...Alright. Here's what we're thinking. The wererats seem calm for now. We let them know they have to move, but that we're going to find someplace else they could set themselves up, where they don't make life difficult for the dwarves. Falcon could probably help us out there. Unless you have a better idea, Roqar?"   Roqar says, "The manse where the dam Orcs were, its not bad not close to anything out in the woods"   And this ends the gaming session for the day, until next time!   It is now July 15th at 9:00 am.   The Adventurers’ Experience Points Earned This Session:   Carrion Crawler: Challenge Level 2 : 450 XP   Giant Rats: Challenge Level 1/8 : 25 * 5 = 125 XP     Total: 575  XP 575 / 7 = 82.14 XP per Adventurer   ----------   Grand Total Experience Points:   Everyone is at 8,672.94 XP    Level 6 now reached at 14,000 XP   Loot Found: None this session   Number of Sessions for current Adventure Module: 66 th Session for “Lost Mines of Phandelver / Dragon of Icespire Peak” 05/01/2021   [1st Session start was 08/15/2019]
