Overwhelmed, Excited, Lost

R20 Community, I am an aspiring role player who has yet to play a single game. I have dropped by local game shops looking for reading materials and pickup games for new players. The pandemic makes it challenging to find welcoming groups, but really I am just completely overwhelmed. I am a veteran gamer in all aspects of computer games, but I was never afforded the opportunity to play any RP games. I have started by reading the DND5e Players Guide, and a few of my friends are interested in playing on a VTT. I guess what I am looking for is some guidance on where to start. click Roll20's "Create Game" button, it's free. Make your own 1st game table in roll20. Test it solo, check out some of the things you can do (Draw, Roll Dice, text chat room, Settings). Possibly (probably) click Create Game again and this time add the free Module for 5e in Roll20, Master's Vault. Be sure to select D&D 5E OGL character sheet by Roll20 in the Character Sheets drop-down on Create Game settings (it will be automatically anyway).  This is to create a fresh roll20 tabletop set up for 5th edition, and it will already have some map with tokens (tokens are miniatures, game pieces like pawns) & adventure ideas will be written in the Journals (Handouts) section. Open your Master's Vault game table, look around (be sure to look under Journals tab > Handouts, and under Collections tab, and under the blue PAGES toolbar that's the maps) to see all the content. Once you're familiar, get the INVITE PLAYERS link of your Master's Vault table, send it to your friends, they can join Roll20 and join your Tabletop from that link. Even if you look to join someone else's games, starting your own game table will be the best starting point for using this website.
