The adventurers move north and open a set of double doors into a hallway. This hallway contains a few tattered paintings; some still clinging to the wall, others lying on the floor covered in dust. There is a set of double doors at it's opposite end. Marcuria looks for a try and didn’t find one and no one else found anything in the hallway so they move up to the next double doors as Avery pauses to stifle a sneeze from the dust. Opening the doors revealed a large master bedroom which has a bed against the western wall and a large desk pushed against the northern wall. There are – just like most of the house – paintings in various states of disarray. Large pieces of rubble line the floor and the ceiling has been collapsed. Rolo decides to cast his Mage Armor spell upon himself here, giving him protection the equivalent of chain mail. No one finds a secret door or anything hidden here and nothing of value is laying around. However, Avery spots another piece of a dusty diary page parchment which reads: Uktar 27: There has been much more activity than normal. Orcs and bugbears have been on the move. The Broken Hand, the tribe of orcs who have been marauding the towns have become more bold. There’s been reports that they’ve made an alliance with a white dragon. Rumors of a white dragon have been floating around of late, so it would not surprise me. But if true, it bodes ill for all of us.   As Roqar moves near the center of the room a carrion crawler decides to drop in on her from the gap in the ceiling. Surprising her and lashing out with a tentacle, it missed! Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins: Feralda, fires a Fire Bolt at the Carrion Crawler dealing 5 fire damage! Avery, casts Vicious Mockery at the Carrion Crawler, but it makes it’s wisdom save rolling a 21 needing ≥ 15, so no effect! Dia, casts the Ray of Frost at the Carrion Crawler, striking it for 9 cold damage! Rolo, casts the Fire Bolt, striking for 7 fire damage! Farren, hits the Carrion Crawler with his Ninjatō , for 11 slashing damage! Marcuria, goes over and pulls Roqar away from the Carrion Crawler! Roqar, having been surprised cannot do anything this round. Carrion Crawler, attacks Farren with a tentacle and missed! Juan, pounds the Carrion Crawler with the magical +1 Lightbringer mace for 7 bludgeoning damage!   2 nd Attacks for Round #01: Farren, using his Flurry of Blows, pounds the Carrion Crawler for 8 bludgeoning damage! Carrion Crawler, attacks Farren with a tentacle hitting for 6 damage and rolls a 13 on the constitution save needing ≥ 13, so he does not become paralyzed!   Combat Round #02: Feralda, casts a Fire Bolt at the Carrion Crawler, hitting for 4 fire damage and defeats it! End of Combat! Juan decides to look in the cabinets and finds 3 gems worth 100 gold pieces each. Marcuria opens the chest at the foot of the bed and it contained musty moldy bed sheets, blankets and pillow covers. Avery, uses her Healing Word spell upon Farren to heal back 8 hit points. Opening the east double doors in the master bedroom there is a hallway. This hallway was once lined with beautiful paintings of nature; but now they lie broken and tattered on the floor, all save one. A painting of a single red rose blooming in a barren field hangs near the western door. It bears the signature Seleena. There are double doors right across the hall on the eastern wall and another in the south east part of the wall. Searching the room did not yield a secret door or a hidden item an. Roqar believes that with a little cleaning up, the Rose painting could fetch her 100 gold pieces. She makes a metal note to swipe it upon leaving the manor. Roqar, checks the doors right across the hall for a trap and did not find one. Opening the doors, they lead into a courtyard, with a single rose bush in it’s center. Avery examines the rose bush and finds nothing unusual, however she notes, that the plant has not been pruned in a long while and it grows wildly, mixed with weeds in the thorny bush and all around the courtyard. Avery cuts one of the roses off with her dagger, while avoiding the thorns. Moving to the double doors in the north east corner of the master bedroom, Roqar opens them into another hallway and she goes right down to it’s opposite end to open the double doors there and sees the following: This had at one time been the bedroom for three children by the looks of things. Three small beds, pushed against one wall, with children’s toys all in the same corner, while two larger beds are also in here. The children’s beds look as if they’ve not been used in many years, and the toys, other than being slightly scattered around the area that they were stored in, look untouched. Both larger beds look as if they had been used. There is a cracked statue of a human soldier near the southern door. Dia and Roqar examine the statue. Dia spots a small hole where the heart would be, it appears that it could fit a key. The statue is set on the floor not connected to anything. Roqar, uses her Thieve’s tools on the small hole to see if it is a lock and rolls a 28! It is a lock which takes her nine mintues to open and a small square compartment pops out which contains a red ruby. Roqar believes it’s worth 500 gold pieces! On one of the big beds rest another diary page. [At this point I just randomly picked the note without rolling on it because there were just a few left and since no mention was made of it’s contents as well, I don’t remember which note it was.] Moving to the south double door of the room it is opened and seen inside is: There was once a beautifully stained glass for a ceiling; but it now lies completely shattered on the floor. Shelves of books lie broken upon the floor. Searching around the room did not find a secret door or hidden item and all of the books were ordinary ones such as children’s tales, romances, mystery, and books about flying ships and other worlds. Marcuria spots another piece of parchment and I think it was this one: Thos 15: It’s been month’s and we’ve found no sign of the white dragon. Last reports show that it was flying south towards Neverwinter Forest. Towards my home. I have requested that I be permitted to return home and ensure that my family is safe.
Keep the fires warm; I am on my way home to you. Soon I will hold you in my arms and laugh with our children again; and should that damn white dragon dare come near our home, I will put an end to it; alone if I must. Moving to the north door on the west side of the children’s bedroom, opening it revealed a large library: This was clearly the library in the manor as there are sixteen rows of shelves, standing 10 ft. tall and 30 ft. long. Most of the shelves have been knocked over, and books like torn, tattered, and ripped across the floor. The ceiling to the library has collapsed, leaving large fragments of stone strewn across the floor. Wooden beams from the ceiling lie exposed to the night skies. There is an eerie sense of coldness here that touches you down to your bones. There are double doors in the north west and south east walls. Two ghostly figures rise up from the floor, both of them looking to be two young boys! Durin the revenant, warns the party not to harm his brother Tourne. Avery tells him they are not here to hurt his brother. Marcuria, mentions they are just trying to find out what happened here. Durin tells the party that the ancient white dragon Ashenfrost, attacked their home and he came rushing into the library to see Tourne lying beneath a bookshelf as Ashenfrost gleefully watched him die. As he rushed over to Tourne, the beast breezed it’s cold breath weapon upon them, killing them both. Durin tells the party that his father, Turin, had defeated Ashenfrost and crushed her eggs and that something his father did turned them all into undead. Avery informs Durin and Tourne that Turin forsook the gods when he came home and found them dead and was thus likely cursed. Avery informs them that they came not to destroy but to help put them all at peace. Telling them that if their father can be made to see reason, it might be possible for him to be absolved. Durin tells them he sees their logic in this and that Tourne and him do not wish to be stuck in the state they are in. Durin informs the party that Turin is in the chapel, past the double doors in the north west corner.  Roqar moves to the south east double doors and spots another diary page, picks it up then moves to open the doors and sees inside: The stained glass windows, and the ceiling, once made of glass have all been shattered. What was once, undoubtedly, a beautiful greenhouse now lies in ruins as weeds and wild plants grow now. Exotic flowers have perished due to lack of care. Entering the greenhouse, your breath can be seen due to the chilly air the gently whispers through the dead roses and plants... Avery points out Kenis the berbalang to Durin and mentions that he wants to see his father’s sword. Kenis tells Durin, that he wishes to know what magical properties it has. Durin doubts that his father would just give him the sword. When Avery asks Kenis what he intends to do with the sword once he figures out it’s magics, he says he doesn’t know yet. Meanwhile, Roqar spots two more page diarys in the greenhouse and starts to pick one up when a ghostly feminine figure rises from the floor! It is Seleena, the mother of the two boys. Craving the life of the living she warns Roqar to leave before she is overcome to absorb Roqar’s flesh with her chilling corrupting touch or wail, for she has not fed in a long time! Holding back at first, Seleena then lurches for Roqar with a look of lust in her eyes! Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins! Farren first makes a saving throw against Seleena’s horrifying visage, rolling a 21, needing a Dice Challenge level of ≥ 13, he was successful! He simply just dodges out of the banshee’s way to avoid contact of her chilling touch! Dia, casts Tasha’s Hideous Laughter at Seleena the banshee, who rolls a wisdom save of 1 needing a DC of ≥ 15, so she begins to burst out in fits of laughter, however since she just floats in the air, she cannot fall prone! Seleena the Banshee, can’t do anything now that she is having uncontrollable fits of laughter! Juan, casts Divine Favor upon his lightbringer mace, giving his weapon an extra 1d4 of radiant damage! The south double door is currently blocking his view of the banshee. Avery rolls a wisdom saving throw against the Banshee’s horrifying visage, rolling an 11 needing ≥ 13 she fails and is frightened for 1 minute! Feralda, casts Enhance Ability upon Avery with Owl’s Wisdom to give her advantage on the wisdom save against the fright, as she runs away! Marcuria makes the wisdom saving throw rolling a 14 needing ≥ 13, so she is not frightened by the banshee’s visage! She just stays put for now, as she has nothing that would work against the banshee. Rolo, fires 4 Magic Missiles using 2 nd level casting for a total of 13 damage to the banshee! Roqar, rolls a 10 on her wisdom save needing ≥13 she fails and runs away frightened! At this point Lord Taris (now a revenant) is drawn into the room by Seleena’s laughter, exclaiming, “What is going on here?! Leave my family and I alone”! Marcuria says, “Crap… We’re being attacked for no reason is what!...No damnit… we need to talk!” The two brothers are watching all of this with confusion shown on their faces Farren says, “It’s not to late to settle this peacefully, even now… We are here to bring peace not destruction”. Taris says, “Then explain yourselves now, why is my wife laughing so loudly”?! Dia says, “We just wanted to stop her from attacking us. The laughter is doing her no harm”. Farren says, “Yes. It’ll wear off soon either way. She lashed out first”. Taris, tells his sons to protect themselves and not let the interlopers interfere. They assume a defensive poster, ready to attack. Farren says, “Don’t any of you want to rest? See reason, before it is too late”! Taris says, “I will rest when you are gone”! Farren says, “No you won’t, Not until you seek to absolve yourself with those you have forsaken”. Taris grunts at Farren’s remark. Dia, brings a Flaming sphere into existence and says, “We don’t mean you any harm, but we will defend ourselves”. She currently holds off sending the sphere into the three revenants. Taris says, “But if you harm my wife or children, I will have no choice but to act”! Marcuria says, “Make sure they don’t attack us, and we won’t attack them! Simple as that”! Dia says, “We have only talked to your children, and only defended ourselves from your wife”. Durin says, “I think Mom could not control herself Dad! It is because of what she has become, like we have changed”! Feralda says, “Quite. Your children have taken this in a far more level-headed fashion…”. Taris grimmances in anger, “I am sorry I have brought this curse down upon you all. It should not be like this”! During Farren and Dia’s the above went on and now we come to Seleena the banshee. Seleena, rolls a 1 on her wisdom save against the Tasha’s Hideous Laughter spell, so thus she continues to laugh uncontrollably away! Juan, tries to persuade Lord Taris, rolling a successful 14 on a persuasion check. Juan says, “Let us help you. You have suffered greatly. It is not too late to be absolved, to finally have your peace, and move on to the afterlife”. Lord Taris says, “To help us you must lift this curse, which means I must be slain”! Dia says, “Are you willing to make that ultimate sacrifice for the good of your family”? Farren says, “So you mean to say that if you fall in battle… that the curse will lift and your family can pass on with you to the afterlife”? An Intelligence check with a DC of 13 is rolled. 18 comes up so it is a success! Lord Taris says, “Very  well, I will lay down my sword and bow before you”. He goes down to one knee and sets the sword on the floor besides him and bows his head. Juan picks up Taris’s sword and carefully hefting it, muttering a short prayer before turning to Taris saying, “May you absolution come at the tip of your own blade”. Juan focuses the radiance of Bhaal into Lord Taris’s sword before quickly ramming the sword clean through Taris's heart, burying it as far as it would go into his chest, coupling the radiant magic he was conjuring to deal a quick and effective deathblow, leaving the blade stuck inside Lord Taris. Lord Taris, drops to the floor on his left side and goes limp while clutching the swordhandle. Seleena laughing while he dies then suddenly it all goes quiet as the sons and her fade away!
Juan drops down onto one knee, praying silently and fervently to Bhaal for a few moments. A few moments later the family again appears before the party, together, seleena saying, “We thank you for lifting this curse upon us and our home and must now move on to our new life. Marcuria, “… I guess it was worth it, in the end… I didn’t get so lucky as you all did. I’m still stuck with my curse. Best of providence’s grace to you all.” The Havenfalls then fade away from view. Rolo begins digging through all of the books, none of them turn out to be spell books. Roqar, retrives the other two pages of parchment from the diary. The berbalang Kenis, asks if he could have Lord Taris’s blade now but the party keeps it saying that Rolo can identify the magics of the blade for him. The party has a look inside the chapel area: This appears to be a chapel that now lies in ruins; on the left wall, the symbol of Lliira; a triangle of three six pointed stars. In the center, and the largest symbol, Helm, the god of protection, with a staring eye on an upright left gauntlet. Finally on the right, the symbol of Mielikki the goddess of forests symbolized in a painting of a unicorn’s head. All of the paintings have been purposely and violently scratched out. The entire chapel is in a state of disarray with the pews knocked over or broken. At the center of the chapel sits a once glorious chair, now broken and shattered. Lord Taris’s remains are near the altar. Rolo asks Dia if he could copy Leomond’s Tiny Hut into his spellbook and Dia wants to copy Counterspell from his.   And this ends the gaming session for the day, until next time!   It is now July 20 th (Day 31) at 1:00 pm.   The Adventurers’ Experience Points Earned This Session:   Freeing the Havenfall Family from the curse: 2,100 XP   Loot: Lord Taris Havenfall’s Dragonbane sword (needs Identified as to what it can do) Durin’s Sword     Total: 2,800  XP 2,800 / 7 = 400 XP per Adventurer   ----------   Grand Total Experience Points:   Everyone is at 9,137.22 XP    Level 6 now reached at 14,000 XP   Loot Found: 10 pages in all found from a diary     Number of Sessions for current Adventure Module: 68 th Session for “Lost Mines of Phandelver / Dragon of Icespire Peak” 05/22/2021   [1st Session start was 08/15/2019]
