Ch. 69: Neverwinter City is visited to buy Silver, Then Back in Phadalin and a New Job to Explore Axeholm

Dungeon Master (GM): Hi guys!   Sirus: I talked with Chad and he says that I am welcome to take charge of Feralda for the foreseeable future, btw.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok Hello Daniel!   ROLO: morning   Roqar: Hey Drow Hehe   ROLO: great drow weather here rain   Elizabeth K.: good morning   Dungeon Master (GM): Hello Elizabeth   Roqar: Morning   Sirus: Ah excellent.   Elizabeth K.: Where are y'all located by the way? I'm in NYC, so rainy and cold today for me.   Dungeon Master (GM): i am making a macro for the dragonbane greatsword Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania here   ROLO: philadelphia rain and chilly   Dungeon Master (GM): 49 degrees and rain   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Ya know, this could be a nice place out in the woods"   Dungeon Master (GM): Roqar is going to become an flipper and interior decorator!   Elizabeth K.: Does this place have a bath tub?   Roqar: 52 today sunny getting a break from the rain in Wisconsin   Dungeon Master (GM): whom are we given the dragonbane sword to? no bathtub, heck no bathroom even!   Sirus: Also this place is crumbling anyways. Yeah so what is the dragonbane greatsword's effects   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, lets say you all camped out inside the manor over night and Rolo cast Identify as a ritual Weapon (greatsword), legendary (requires attunement) Even if you’re not attuned to Dragonbane, you gain +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage made with this magic weapon. Increased Potency. While attuned to Dragonbane, its bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against dragons increases to +2 and its hit deals an extra 2d6 fire damage (to dragons).   Wounding. While you are attuned to Dragonbane, any dragon that you hit with Dragonbane can’t regain hit points for 1 minute. The target can make a DC 15 Constitution savings throw at the end of each of its turns, ending this effect early on a success. ok, so who wants to use it?   Sirus: Not Marcy or Feralda or Avery. Greatswords aren't fitting for any of them.   Dungeon Master (GM): so juan or marcuria?   Sirus: Just said it's a no for Marcy. :p   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Elizabeth K.: Didn't Roqar start using longswords when she got the giant strength? Can she use a greatsword?   Dungeon Master (GM): juan on roqar then   Sirus: Roqar is a maybe, sure.   Dungeon Master (GM): or   Sirus: Greatsword is a martial weapon right?   Dungeon Master (GM): yep, it's a two-handed weapon 6.5 feet long   Sirus: How much does it weigh   Dungeon Master (GM): 10.5 lbs i think maybe 15 even   Sirus: Mmh...Juan is already kind of encumbered. 120 weight. Might be best to not push it further.   Roqar: She can but not Proficient with it would need a feat to use it properly   Dungeon Master (GM): 6 ft long, 25 lbs   Roqar: haha a foot taller then she is   Elizabeth K.: Could someone else take Juan's Lightbringer mace? More thematic on him, but if he's the only one that can use the dragon sword and he has too much, maybe that should be given away?   Dungeon Master (GM): ha! 5E nerfs it to 6 lbs!   Sirus: Oof if we can go with that, Juan will take the greatsword. 6 lbs is tolerable.   ROLO: ?we taking a short rest   Elizabeth K.: Already did a long rest   ROLO: k ty   Dungeon Master (GM): zwiehanders weigh between 4.4 to 8 lbs so 1e tacked on encumbrance thus 250 gp weigh   Roqar: Long rest overnight   Dungeon Master (GM): 5e went with the middle weight then   Sirus: Ok, 6 lb on the greatsword is acceptable, Juan will take the greatsword. There is still the issue of Kenis, tho. And what to tell him and what happens.   Dungeon Master (GM): regarding Kenis, Rolo would tell him what the sword does of course.   Elizabeth K.: Any chance he was satisfied with that and will leave us alone?   Roqar: Buzz off Kenis we need it   Berbalang ("Kenis") Says: "Eh, any chance you would let me have it?"   ROLO: i could lie to him   Juan Denero the Human Cleric Says: "I think I would rather not. Especially since you still haven't told us what you want it for."   Berbalang ("Kenis") Says: "Well, now that I know what it does thanks to Rolo, I guess I won't need it then. So, I will be off. Nice knowing you folks. Bye!" ok, from the manor are we trekking back to phandalin?
ROLO: i say yes to that   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, with everyone else?   Sirus: Any particular reason we can't just soldier on to Neverwinter? To get the silver to deal with the wererats?   Roqar: Yes may as well no other place close by We could march on to Neverwinter   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, wandering monster checks on the way back:  4   1   6   6   2   ROLO: can we get silver weopons at phandlin   Sirus: Yes. That is the point. Or if nothing else, we can get silver to put on our weapons.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok about  7  miles out we get an encounter   Roqar: No silver or not much in Phandalin   Sirus: brb   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   ROLO: k np   Dungeon Master (GM): 1   ROLO: is my mage armor still active   Dungeon Master (GM): Yes Rolo and we have bugbears 3 3 of them   Elizabeth K.: Casting mage armor every day for travel   ROLO: are they close together   Sirus: ...3 bugbears. Great. Do we at least get to take formation before the fight starts?   ROLO: fireball?would get all 3   Sirus: Yeah sure.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: Ready to go.   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Eyes forward, we've got company!"   Bugbear #02 the The Dude Says: "So what brings you folks into these woods?"   ROLO: we doing initative?   Dungeon Master (GM): yep   Sirus: Oh they're talkative.   Avery the Half-Elf Bard Says: "Passing through, is all..."   Bugbear #02 the The Dude Says: "You've come to give us your goods, right?" Says: "Let's say it's a tax for letting you live."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "No, but we'd be glad to force-feed you your own limbs."   Bugbear #02 the The Dude Says: "I guess we will so find out, now, won't we?"     Marcuria, the Human Barbarian, gets ready to make an attack move! INITIATIVE ROLL: 4.16  Only 1 Initiative roll shown to save space! ROUND 1 Dia Xiloscient , it's now your turn!   Elizabeth K.: Going to hold them in place   Sirus: guud   Web Conjuration 2 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  60 feet Target:  A point of your choice within range Components:  V, S, M (A bit of spiderweb) Duration:  Concentration Up to 1 hour Dia Xiloscient conjures a mass of thick, sticky webbing at a point of her choice within range. The webs fill a 20-foot cube from that point for the duration. The webs are difficult terrain and lightly obscure their area. If the webs aren’t anchored between two solid masses (such as walls or trees) or layered across a floor, wall, or ceiling, the conjured web collapses on itself, and the spell ends at the start of your next turn. Webs layered over a flat surface have a depth of 5 feet. Each creature that starts its turn in the webs or that enters them during its turn must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is restrained as long as it remains in the webs or until it breaks free. A creature restrained by the webs can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. If it succeeds, it is no longer restrained. The webs are flammable. Any 5-foot cube of webs exposed to fire burns away in 1 round, dealing 2d4 fire damage to any creature that starts its turn in the fire. SPELL SAVE DC : 15 SPELL SLOT LEVEL 22 OF 3 REMAINING   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   (To GM): Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  12  |  11   (To GM): Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  21  |  13   (To GM): Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  10  |  16   Dungeon Master (GM): opps, their rolls got whispered and 1 saved #02 did   Sirus: ach not good. ah wait 1 is stuck up. Good. : Dia Xiloscient 's turn is done.
Bugbear #01 , it's now your turn!   Dungeon Master (GM): he's stuck : Bugbear #01 's turn is done. Rolo , it's now your turn!   Elizabeth K.: Time to burn . . .   ROLO: fireball   Dungeon Master (GM): ok i saw your ping roll the spell for the damage!   ROLO: rolling 8d6( 3 + 5 + 3 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 1 ) = 23   Dungeon Master (GM): that will do   Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  12  |  4   Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  10  |  20   Dexterity Bugbear Ability:  8  |  18       Sirus: ah don't forget, that burns up the webs too   ROLO: do u like well done bugbears   Elizabeth K.: And the webs are now on fire, so each one takes 2d4 on the start of its turn   ROLO: nice   Dungeon Master (GM): 3 26 damage : Rolo 's turn is done. Roqar , it's now your turn!   Sirus: all still alive? also, webs ignited   Dungeon Master (GM): yes, and they are rolling in the dirt     Sirus: Oh I see. Wew. webs gone now btw   Roqar: If the webs gone will move in to attack   Sirus: Which they definitely are. I think   Bugbear #02 the The Dude Says: "ooowww! Alright you win!"   Elizabeth K.: They burn in 1 round, not one turn (The bug bears are still slow roasting)   Bugbear #01 the The Dude Says: "yea, fuck this, let them go."   ROLO: may i finish them off if they retreat   Dungeon Master (GM): let's see what the rest do first   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Huh. Smarter than the average, after all. Nah, let 'em live. They can learn to appreciate humility."   Roqar: fine with me   Dungeon Master (GM): ok so roqar holds off attacking?   Roqar: yes   Dungeon Master (GM): ok They all get up and runs away   Dia Xiloscient the Elf Wizard Says: "Do we think they've learned enough to not attack innocent travelers on the road ever again?" : Roqar 's turn is done.   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "No, not really. But if we're gonna fight those three bozos again, I hope they bring their friends, so we can whip the crap out of them, too."   Elizabeth K.: Farren lets them run.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, everyone is letting them run off then?   ROLO: np   Sirus: Yeah pretty much. No need to hunt them down to the death.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok ok   ROLO: what about our tax?   Roqar: Roqar was fine either way hunt them or let them go   ROLO: yelling at the bugbears   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, so we are back in Neverwinter looking for silver   Sirus: When in doubt, go talk to the madame and inquire I suppose?   ROLO: how much would a silver dagger cost out of game?   Sirus: Keeping in mind ofc we could  just  buy the silver, and possibly get the silvering itself done in Phandalin?   Dungeon Master (GM): how many pounds of it do you want?   Sirus: How much would be needed?   Dungeon Master (GM): depends on which weapons you want coated with it   Roqar: For me adagger   Sirus: We need to silver, at the bare minimum, Juan's lightbringer mace, Farren's ninjato, Marcuria's gauntlets, and Roqar's dagger.   Dungeon Master (GM): so figure I guess 1/4 of a lbs
ROLO: a dagger for me as well   Dungeon Master (GM): 1/2   Sirus: half a pound of pure silver. Alright.   Dungeon Master (GM): that's it?!   Elizabeth K.: Maybe also daggers for Dia and Feralda?   Dungeon Master (GM): you can buy them yes 50% chance you could buy them here at double the cost 55   Elizabeth K.: Dia already has a dagger, and I'd expect Feralda to have one too.   Sirus: Feralda isn't gonna get much use for a dagger. She has magic.   ROLO: why double here?   Sirus: Reminder: Magic works on wererats.   Dungeon Master (GM): nope, you can't find already silvered weapons here for sale   Sirus: If you can throw magic downrange you don't need silvered weapons.   ROLO: true   Sirus: So half a pound of silver to silver weapons for those who actually do need it.   ROLO: just wanted one for good use   Dungeon Master (GM): so you have to buy the silver and i don't know where to look for coinage weight but i know it exist and it's not 10 gp per 10 coins   Sirus: Well, a good start would be the smithy. If that's too obvious, perhaps madame can point us in the right direction.   Dungeon Master (GM): the lionshield coster in Neverwinter would have some silver ore   ROLO: is there a place to buy spell components and ink to copy spells   Dungeon Master (GM): yea since the town is run by wizards   ROLO: thats were i go i will meet u back here getting a drink brb   Dungeon Master (GM): let's just say 10 silver pieces is a pound so it would cost you 1 gold to get ok   Sirus: sounds good   Dungeon Master (GM): 1 pound of silver = 1 gold coin in cost   Sirus: Eh. Could actually just buy a whole pound's worth then.   Dungeon Master (GM): yea   Sirus: And silver Roqar's sword too   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Roqar: Its magical hehe   Dungeon Master (GM): anything else while in Neverwinter?   Roqar: Check with contacts on how much a gold chalice and plate from an evil temple could sell for?   ROLO: any news or rumors   Dungeon Master (GM): not really, other than people gossiping about various sightings of a green and white dragons back to phandalin for sure now?   Roqar: Yes   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, i'm not bothering with wandering checks....let's just say for the moment the treats were elimated along the high road and part of the triboar trail   Sirus: Righto.   Roqar: Pay homage at shrine for another trip   Dungeon Master (GM): this is at least 4 days later after the paladin manor visit ok Roqar   ROLO: was i able to get inks and some spell componets magic chalks for spell copying   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, you could visit the stonehill tavern...go check the job board at town hall, Rollo could be at Roqar's with his new ink and components, copying spells same with Dia.   ROLO: ty   Sirus: Marcy is gonna go see the smithy now.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: about getting the silvering done.   Elizabeth K.: Is Feralda also in for the spell exchange?   Dungeon Master (GM): sure   Roqar: Roqar will check the job board maybe knock on the door "Its the dragon" haha   Sirus: cmon don't torment him lol   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Heads to the smithy and knocks on the door.   Thagren Ironforge the Blacksmith Says: "Well, Hello there Ma'am! What can I do for you today?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Looking to get some weapons coated in silver. I have the ore if you're willing to do the smelting."   Elizabeth K.: Any limit on how many spells we can copy from each other, or should we just say that we formed a wizards study group and do this every night, we we'll eventually have all of each other's spells copied?   Thagren Ironforge the Blacksmith Says: "Oh, good and yes I can coat your weapon for you."   ROLO: im only coping 1 leomond's tiny hut it cost money and 2 hrs per spell level of spell   Dungeon Master (GM): no limit other than it has to be a spell you can currently learn.... in 1E you would need the write spell to copy spells that are of higher level   ROLO: dia wanted copy counter spell   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Elizabeth K.: We did that and Tiny Hut last time. This time I want Dispel Magic from Feralda.   Sirus: Oh yeah uh, it's fine if Marcy borrows everyone's weapons to get them silvered up, right?
Roqar: Roqar is checking the job board   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Takes out the silver ore they bought from Neverwinter and hands it to Thagren.   Roqar: Yes Roqar gives her a dagger to silver she has magic weapons but likes options   Sirus: Right. Actually, none of Juan's stuff needs silvering because lightbringer mace is magic lol   Dungeon Master (GM): “Within a mountain fifteen miles south of Phandalin stands the ancient dwarven fortress of Axeholm, which has been sealed for years. If a dragon attack is imminent, the people of Phandalin might need to evacuate and take refuge in Axeholm. To that end, someone needs to open the fortress and make it safe for habitation. Once you accomplish these tasks, return to Townmaster Wester to collect a reward of 250 gp.”   “The green and white dragon that besets us is not the first to threaten this region. Between here and Neverwinter lies the barrow mound of a warrior whose magical dragon-slaying sword helped fell a green dragon terrorizing the High Road a century ago. Rumor has it the dragon slayer sword is buried there too. Retrieve it, and let the sword be its own reward.   Sirus: So Marcy's gauntlets, roqar's dagger, Farren's ninjato. Actually   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Good. There's a few items that need it. My gauntlets. Also got a dagger here, and a sword here as well. How much you figure that's gonna cost for service? "   Dungeon Master (GM): could just silver them to be fancy of course (To GM)rolling d20( 14 ) = 14   Elizabeth K.: brb   Thagren Ironforge the Blacksmith Says: "Ok, that will run you 5 gold coins to silver them."   Roqar: Alright Roqar goes to meet the others at the Inn first then goes to meet the Wizards   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Done deal, then." Hands Thagren the weapons as well as the gold.   Thagren Ironforge the Blacksmith Says: "Ok, I estimate getting these done for you in 5 days time."   Toblen Stonehill the InnKeeper Says: "Hello Roqar, Good to see you back in town? How was the visit to Havenfall manor?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "....Mmh. Alright. I guess there's little choice in the matter. See you then."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "It had a happy ending the curse is lifted, gimme a bottle of whiskey and you have any idea where Axeholm is from here?"   ROLO: is there talk of dragons here as well white and green   Toblen Stonehill the InnKeeper Says: "A Happy ending? well that's good I suppose. 1 bottle of whiskey coming right up. Axeholm is just slightly east and 15 miles south from town in the Sword Mountains range"   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We may try cleaning it up in case its needs to be opened"   Toblen Stonehill the InnKeeper Says: "I see." Says: "Some folks around town have been having nightmares the last couple of nights."   Says: "They say, it would start pleasant with a beautiful woman or handsome man then horrible things would manifest."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Its my vote anyways, need to see what the others think, any idea about a warriors cairn or barrow is? tween neverwinter and here?"   Toblen Stonehill the InnKeeper Says: "Oh, Dragons Barrow is somewhere east of the High road, somewhere halfway-ish, between Neverwinter and the Highboar trai."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says her farewells and leaves to check up on the others. She briefly looks down at her bare hands for a moment or two before stopping, shaking her head as if to try and keep a certain unpleasant thought out of her head.   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Hm, nightmares, not my thing, but maybe the Wizards know"   Toblen Stonehill the InnKeeper Says: "Gundren and Nundro went off with about 15 other dwarves to Wave echo cave."   Elizabeth K.: (Given how much trouble we had figuring out a use for the last anti-dragon sword, maybe Axeholm would be the better side-quest.)   Dungeon Master (GM): [There is another location on the realm map, and I am trying to see about it. As there appears to be no job centered around it.]   Roqar: (No harm in getting another dragon sword hehe but Axeholm first for sure)   ROLO: has anyone here seen any dragons   Dungeon Master (GM): Sildar would know where the place is, being that he knows the neverwinter woods suddenly from outside screams of townsfolks can be heard! one comes rushing into the tavern   Roqar: Roqar runs outside   Lysander the Human Rogue Says: "It's the white dragon, it is circling above the town!"   Dia Xiloscient the Elf Wizard Rushes outside to look (staying close to the building)   Dungeon Master (GM): Dia, spots the dragon when Lysander points it out   ROLO: i look outside too   Elizabeth K.: How big/far away does it seem?   ROLO: ty same ?   Elizabeth K.: Can I roll history for any info about the dragon? (Or Arcana or Investigation?)   Dungeon Master (GM): not far at all, it suddenly swoops down and a moment later a cow can be seen in it's talons as it flys off to the east!   ROLO: is it in fireball range 150 ft
Dungeon Master (GM): not needed as I wouldn't have any information to give you   Sirus: ah yes let's just aggro the dragon, right in middle of town That won't end in everyone getting killed.   Elizabeth K.: (Have to save the cow)   Sirus: You mean the big cooked steak that was once a cow? :p   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Axeholm it is then, now to round up the gang"   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, let me put axeholm on the realm map for you I still don't see any information on that other location but will look into it   Dia Xiloscient the Elf Wizard Says: "If the dragon is this close, the people need their refuge in Axeholm. Marcy, are you comfortable going there with your gauntlets still in the shop?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...I'm going to need a weapon. Preferably something I can bludgeon with. A hammer...something that can bludgeon pretty hard."   Says: "I'm not comfortable with it, no. But when has my comfort ever mattered? I just need a weapon and i'll deal with the rest."   Dungeon Master (GM): you could go buy one at the smithy or coster ok so Axeholm is a little bit to the east then south   Roqar: Or borrow Lightbringer?   Sirus: She could probably get one of those 2-handed greathammers   Dungeon Master (GM): a 15 mile trip:  1   6   4 5 5 miles into the trip down you have an encounter with:  4 hobgoblins   Sirus: DM, price check on buying a greathammer from the smithy before they leave?   Dungeon Master (GM): 2 a warhammer is 15 gp   Elizabeth K.: (Maybe the smithy would agree to a loaner, since it's to protect the town. Or at least agree to buy it back at same price on return)   Dungeon Master (GM): I could roll on that   Sirus: Yeah. Could say it's a loaner, since it's gonna be used to help save the town and everyone in it, if the roll is nice.   Dungeon Master (GM): that mountain range where the dwarven excavation, axeholm and Gnomengarde are is the Sword Mountains range the western part of it Wave echo cave is part of it as well   Sirus: Maybe this DM. 15 GP deposit in return for the greathammer, and when the silvering is done, Marcy returns the greathammer. That work?   Dungeon Master (GM): sounds good   ROLO: did the dragon leave   Sirus: Let's do that then. ALso yeah it just carted off a cow and left. Presumably to eat it.   ROLO: ty   Roqar: Dragon took Bessy Hope not one of the butter skull cows gege   Dungeon Master (GM): I put the warhammer in the weapons macro sub-mean menu   Sirus: Excellent. Did you include the 2-handed version?   Dungeon Master (GM): yes   Sirus: splendid.   Roqar: 'So gang meets up at the Inn later?   Hobgoblin #02 Says: "What brings you folks down here? Heading for the sword mountains?"   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Yep. And...let me guess. You're the...welcoming committee."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Looking for a dragon sword"   Hobgoblin #02 Says: "Ha! No we are just doing some hunting for some food here."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Okay. Well...you have a good one, then, I guess."   Hobgoblin #02 Says: "yea, and you as well, we will be on our way."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "We dont have anything to share so move along"   ROLO: my map is black   Sirus: Let the DM work on it lol   ROLO: k np   Elizabeth K.: zoom out a bit to see the revealed parts   ROLO: ty   Dungeon Master (GM): I have Sildar with you as your guide to get down here.   Roqar: entrance to the right   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, it took a day to get down here, going across grassy lowlands that skirt the rocky foothills of the Sword Mountains. There is cool winds and rain blowing in from the Sword Coast. Thrust out from the base of a dark gray mountain is the entrance to the dwarven fortress—a dark, fifteen-foot-wide passageway flanked by forty-foot-high bulwarks of smooth, seamless stone. An iron portcullis covered with rust blocks the entrance. Arrow slits carved into the bulwarks are dark, revealing no hint of occupation.   ROLO: how high are the walls   Roqar: 13 | 23 STRENGTH  (4) Roqar
ROLO: 40ft   Dungeon Master (GM): if you are trying to bend the bars, no luck with that, they are very thick   Marcuria the Human Barbarian seemed a bit uneasy for a change, trying not to look at her hands any more than absolutely necessary. She seemed to remember something profoundly unpleasant.   Dungeon Master (GM): 40 ft high   Avery the Half-Elf Bard Says: "Marcy? Are you ....alright?"   ROLO: is there a lever in sight   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Huh?....Oh. Yeah, i'm fine. Always am. We better do this quick, so the people in Phandalin can have a safe roof over their head."   ROLO: what can we see on the other side of barred   Dungeon Master (GM): i just revealed it!   Roqar: Will try to lift it up then   ROLO: sorry slow typer lol   Roqar: 6 | 21 STRENGTH  (4) Roqar   Dungeon Master (GM): Roqar has no luck attempting to lift the gate!   ROLO: do i see a lever   Dungeon Master (GM): no lever is in sight even beyond the gate   ROLO: uwant me to misty step   Elizabeth K.: Maybe Marcy and Roqar can try together first?   ROLO: k brb getting drink   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Ready Marcy?"   Dungeon Master (GM): that's a combined 38 strength   Sirus: Avery is gonna look around the exterior in case that falls through, maybe there is a hidden lever elsewhere.   Dungeon Master (GM): you both attempt to lift it but it will not budge!   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "...Was a nice thought. These things are meant to not budge..."   Dungeon Master (GM): where are you looking around the exterior?   Elizabeth K.: While waiting for them to try, Dia casts Detect Magic as a ritual.   Sirus: Around here.   Avery: 21 | 25 PERCEPTION  (7) Avery   Dungeon Master (GM): there's nothing but ground there   Sirus: Checking the walls too   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, nothing on the walls you have the mountain to look at   ROLO: back   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Elizabeth K.: Once the ritual is done, do I see any hints of magic?   Sirus: Good chance there's a lever on the other side. Could Dia's familiar fit through the gap?   Dungeon Master (GM): Dia does not see any emanations of magical auras anywhere. Give me another perception check for avery.   Avery: 21 | 13 PERCEPTION  (7) Avery   Dungeon Master (GM): looking at the mountain ok,   Elizabeth K.: DM already said there's no lever we can see through the gate. If there is anything, it would be through the door, which a familiar can't get through   Dungeon Master (GM): she spots several chimneys sticking out in various places and they are of various sizes.   Sirus: Any chance someone could fit through one of them?   ROLO: i could misty step   Elizabeth K.: (We don't know if there's even a lever past the doors, so you might be stepping into enemy hands alone just for no chance at getting us in. Sure you want that risk?)   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, you spot two that could maybe be big enough to get into... one on the west side and one on the east side you would of course need to climb the mountain to get to them   ROLO: iwill wait to see what everyone else does   Avery the Half-Elf Bard Says: "If we climb the mountain a ways, we could go in through some of these chimneys."   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Well. Not seeing much other way to get inside."   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Just like the old tales of a yule Elf that would do that"   Dia Xiloscient the Elf Wizard Says: "The chimney will also give us the element of surprise on whoever's in there. They probably put a lot more effort into blocking the front door."   Dungeon Master (GM): so anyone attempting the climb?   ROLO: how high   Roqar: Roqar will
Dungeon Master (GM): probably at least 60 ft ok, a strength / athletics check will do   ROLO: what skill would climbing be   Dungeon Master (GM): just one check, no need for every 10 feet here   ROLO: dam im not good at those   Roqar: 7 | 16 ACROBATICS  (5) Roqar Second-Story Work Roqar Class: Thief When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain the ability to climb faster than normal; climbing no longer costs you extra movement. In addition, when you make a running jump, the distance you cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Dexterity modifier.   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, in spite of the many possible foot and hand holds Roqar could not climb up appearently you just slide back down as no indication of a damage roll anyone else?   Elizabeth K.: 16 | 10 ACROBATICS  (3) Dia Xiloscient   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, dia was able to climb up   Elizabeth K.: I borrow someone's rope, and tie one end to something at the top   Dungeon Master (GM): ok one of the smaller chimneys would do which side did she climb up on the east or west?   Elizabeth K.: . . . east   Dungeon Master (GM): ok are you going to attempt to crawl down the chimney Dia?   Elizabeth K.: While the others climb with the rope, I inspect the large chimney. Hanging from a hook above its mantelpiece is a steel shield bearing the symbol: a dwarven gauntlet clutching a handaxe. The room’s other furnishings cots, tables, chairs, and empty footlockers are intact but covered in dust.   Sirus: DM, Feralda can haz 8 HP back.   Dungeon Master (GM): yes   Marcuria the Human Barbarian Says: "Not pretty, but we're in. Let's get started."   Roqar: 24 | 27 Thieves' Tools  (2+0+6) Roqar   Elizabeth K.: (Mage armor active)   Dungeon Master (GM): ok, the door happens to not be locked so she opens it into another room that is roughly carved out and has a passage exiting it's south east side   ROLO: same   Dungeon Master (GM): a very narrow passage at that   ROLO: mage armor   Dungeon Master (GM): ok   Sirus: Marcy is gonna see how far out she can look in the passage.   Roqar: Checking other door   Dungeon Master (GM): ok it is also not locked so she opens it to see:   Roqar: 10 | 20 Thieves' Tools  (2+0+6) Roqar   ROLO: do we hear anything   Dungeon Master (GM): This large chamber extends over the outer gauntlet of the main entrance (area A1) and contains many former defensive measures. Arrow slits to the north allow outside light to enter, filling the northern half of the room with sunlight or moonlight depending on the time of day or night. Thick webs are strung between the walls and pillars.   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Need a fireball in here"   ROLO: are u sure   Roqar the Elf Rogue Says: "Better safe then sorry, webs mean spiders, spiders need firebsll"   Farren Nidanas the Elf Monk Gestures and points around the corner to communicate that there's a big scary there   ROLO: k i will move in to fireball it   Dungeon Master (GM): well dang, i though that was on the dm layer but whatever you sure there's just one?   Elizabeth K.: I only see one on the map.   Dungeon Master (GM): it would be up near the ceiling waiting for you to go underneath it   ROLO: only one maybe not   Sirus: Fireball would spread real nasty-like, wouldn't it?   Elizabeth K.: Can Farren see further to the west from this position?   Sirus: Or is the ceiling high enough for it to not matter   Roqar: Be safe, Firebsll it   Sirus: "safe" we're in a confined space.   ROLO: k np i will Fireball Evocation 3 Casting Time:  1 action Range:  150 ft; 20 ft sphere Components:  V, S, M (a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur) Duration:  Instantaneous A bright streak flashes from Rolo's pointing finger to a point he chooses within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. The burst of the fireball does not expend a considerable amount of pressure, and the burst will generally conform to the shape of the area in which it occurs, thus covering an area equal to its normal spherical volume. [The area which is covered by the fireball is a total volume of 33,510 cubic feet (or yards) (33.5, 10-foot × 10-foot × 10-foot cubes)]. A target takes  28  fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried. At Higher Levels .  When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd. Phew.   ROLO: hows it looking   Dungeon Master (GM): and I need to do a little something here   Elizabeth K.: It says it will spread out to cover the same area. That's about 48 squares total. ( 3 * 20 ^2 / 5^2 )   Sirus: If the blast ends up enveloping Rolo and he doesn't save that will actually one-shot him   Dungeon Master (GM): where exactly did you center the blast   Elizabeth K.: Presumable Rolo would have aimed a bit south of the spider (further from himself), so it should spread more to the west   ROLO: depends where i can see   Dungeon Master (GM): 33.5 squares. That’s a 10x10 ft of square and 33.5 of them.   Elizabeth K.: Are the squares 10 ft or 5 ft?   ROLO: iwouldnt cast if its gonna hit me range is 150 ft

Avery: Bardic Inspiration(D8) Avery Class: Bard You can inspire others through stirring words or music. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one creature other than yourself within 60 feet of you who can hear you. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die, a d8. Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of once). You regain any expended uses when you finish a long rest. Your Bardic Inspiration die changes when you reach certain levels in this class.
