a ritual on the Dragonsbane sword to find out it’s magical properties: It is a legendary sword requiring the user to
be attuned to it in order to use it’s full potential, other it is just a +1
weapon. Once attuned the sword gives the welder +2 on To Hits and damage plus
an additional 2d6 fire damage to dragons. Any dragon that you hit can’t regain
hit points for 1 minute. The dragon can make a DC 15 constitution Saving throw
at the end of each of its turns, ending this effect early on a success. Rolo tells Kenis the berbalang about the magical properties of
the sword. Kenis still wanted the sword but the party would not let him have it
so, with knowledge of the sword’s abilities, Kenis thanks the party then
leaves. The group decides to head to Neverwinter City to buy silver to
coat their weapons with. Along the way about 7 miles into the trip, three
bugbears are encountered and they want the parties goods. Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 begins: Dia, casts the Web spell
and it gets two of the Bugbears stuck while the third is able to move at half
speed out of the web. Rolo, casts the Fireball spell at the Bugbears dealing 23 damage,
plus 3 more from the burning webbing, roasting all 3 of them! End of Combat! The bugbears roll on the ground to put out the fires then get up
and take off! (They all had only 1 hit point left). The party does not bother
to give chase. Once in Neverwinter City, they buy a pound of silver for 1 gold
piece at the local Lionshield coster. [Roqar could still have sold the gold chalice and plate from the
evil temple at the goblin castle, as a retcon here. Provided she had them with
her in her backback, of which we could roll on it.] The party heads back to Phandalin, down the High road and
Triboar trail, without incident and it’s 4 days since the visit to Lord Taris
Havenfall’s manor. Back in Phandalin, Marcuria heads to Thagren Ironforge, with her
gauntlets, Roqar's dagger, Farren's ninjato, and the pound of silver, to inquire about
getting the weapons coated in silver. Thagren charges 5 gold pieces for the
task. Dia, wants to have a wizards’ study group so that Feralda, Rolo
and her can copy spells into their spell books from each other, once they buy
the supplies needed to make the ink and write it, each spell taking 2 hours per
level to write into a spellbook. Roqar, heads to town hall to have a look at job postings on the
job board outside and sees the following two jobs being offered: Explore
Axeholm: “Within
a mountain fifteen miles south of Phandalin stands the ancient dwarven fortress
of Axeholm, which has been sealed for years. If a dragon attack is imminent,
the people of Phandalin might need to evacuate and take refuge in Axeholm. To
that end, someone needs to open the fortress and make it safe for habitation.
Once you accomplish these tasks, return to Townmaster Wester to collect a reward
of 250 gp.” Explore
the Dragon Barrow: “The
green and white dragon that besets us is not the first to threaten this region.
Between here and Neverwinter lies the barrow mound of a warrior whose magical
dragon-slaying sword helped fell a green dragon terrorizing the High Road a
century ago. Rumor has it the dragon slayer sword is buried there too. Retrieve
it, and let the sword be its own reward!” If the characters undertake this
quest, proceed with "Dragon Barrow". At the Stonehill Inn, Toblen Stonehill, inquires about Havenfall
manor and Roqar informs that the paladin’s curse has been lifted there. Toblen
tells Roqar Axehom is slightly east and then 15 miles south of Phandalin in the
Sword Mountains range. Toblen tells Roqar that
some of the folks in town have reported having nightmares the last couple of
nights. They say it would start pleasant in the company of a beautiful woman or
handsome man then horrible things would manifest. Toblen mentions that Gundren and Nundro Rockseeker had left town
with 15 other dwarves, heading for Wave Echo Cave, (a.k.a. Mines of Phandelver). It is decided that Axeholm would be the next job for the
adventurers to take on, with Sildar Hallwinter being the guide to get there. Screams of townsfolks are heard outside the inn and one comes
rushing in to inform that the white dragon is flying over the town, circling
it! Suddenly it dives down and grabs a cow in its talons and flies away to the
east with it! Marcuria, decides to get a warhammer on loan from Thagren, given
him 15 gold pieces returnable deposit on it. The next day, the party heads out to Axeholm and about 5 miles
into the trip, the party encounters two hobgoblins that are hunting for food in
the area. The Hobgoblins inquire as to why they are heading south and
Roqar says they are looking for a dragon sword and inform the party they are
hunting and then move on. It
took a day to get down to Axeholm, going across grassy lowlands that skirt the
rocky foothills of the Sword Mountains. There is cool winds and rain blowing in
from the Sword Coast. Thrust
out from the base of a dark gray mountain is the entrance to the dwarven
fortress—a dark, fifteen-foot-wide passageway flanked by forty-foot-high
bulwarks of smooth, seamless stone. An iron portcullis covered with rust blocks
the entrance. Arrow slits carved into the bulwarks are dark, revealing no hint
of occupation. Roqar
tries to bend the bars and then lift it with the aid of the gauntlets of ogre
power she wears and Marcuria helping, however they are simply too thick and
gate too heavy to budge! Avery,
looks for a hidden lever inside the gate but could not see one. Dia,
casts Detect Magic as a ritual, and looks around the fortress for any magical
aura emanations, but comes up empty with that. Avery
looks over the outside of the fortress and spots several chimneys. A couple of
them, one to either side of the fortress appear big enough for a human to fit
through! Dia
is the first to climb up the east side and she ties a rope around one of the
smaller chimneys and the rest of the party eventually climb up, (though Avery
managed to slip back down once), using the rope and the many hand and foot
holds the rocky surface provided here. After
everyone is up, Dia casted the Light spell upon another rope and lowered it
down into the chimney they are climbing down in. The
chimney is obviously jet black from soot and a hearth can be seen below, also
covered in soot and the ashen remains of coal and wood. As the party goes down into the chimney, pressing their backs
and feet against the sides as they lower themselves down the rope, Feralda and
Juan both lost their grip and tumbled down, Feralda taking 9, Juan taking 6 hit
points of damage from the fall into the hearth below, sending a cloud of soot
and ash up into the chimney and into the room below! Avery, casts the Healing Word spell upon Feralda healing back 8
hit points to her. Here is what the adventurers see inside the room they had
climbed down into : A
fireplace is built into the west wall of this room. Hanging from a hook above
its mantelpiece is a steel shield bearing the symbol: a dwarven gauntlet
clutching a handaxe.
The
room’s other furnishings cots, tables, chairs, and empty footlockers are intact
but covered in dust.
