Remember 1st Edition? One Mature Player Wanted...

We have a Monday night game from 4 to 7. We have found a core group of mature players (in age... as in... we all go back to 1st edition, but are playing 5e) who work well together, have fun, and enjoy our weekly adventures.  It has been important to me in seeking games that all players are of the same mindset and share a love of the same kind of fantasy role play, and are interested in having relaxed and easygoing fun.  My influences are sexy sword and sorcery movies ("Sword & Sorcerer," Warrior and the Sorceress," the classic "Conan" movies), comics (Warren comics, Vampirella, Frank Thorne, Wally Wood, etc.), books, (Pulps, Gor), and art (Frazetta, Pulp art, etc.), and the characters I play are groovy B-movie and Exploitation cinema influenced women who fit into those environments.  Want to join us? Answer these questions: 1) What are your influences and how would they influence your characters? 2) What do you consider to be good role play?  3) Do you believe worlds of fantasy should reflect modern political ideology? 4) What do you miss most about the way fantasy and D&D used to be? If you are not comfortable posting answers in this public forum, feel free to PM me through Roll20.
Welcome to the OSR! Have you looked at Black Hack, Rad Hack, or OSRIC? check out Ultra Violet Grasslands that is a very fun game.

Well I do believe I’ve scrolled down to old post… again! lol. I suspect this is filled.  I’ll just reply for fun anyways because this is such a pearl amongst all the posts.  No actually I don’t remember 1st ed. I started with other roleplaying games sometime in the mid 80’s. A swedish adaptation of Rune-quest and MERP (Middle-Earth Roleplaying, by ICE). Only quite recently did I get a reprint of AD&D. Though I have some vague memory that one of my friends ran The Redbox for us.  I loved the art you mentioned. Many of those artist were licensed on the products for this Rune-Quest derivat as I recall.  I took a look at your profile quickly and now I’m like "where can I see your art?". I’m not a real artist but I dabble some in it.  Anyways to the questionnaire shall we:  1 I think the first fantasy book I read at that time was Elric of Melnibone. It was short, easy read, and captivating. A lot of art covers and content in the game modules. Some Tolkien obviously but we were more into the less defined ages where we could paste more of our own imaginations into it. I didn’t read Conan but I did see some movies and I liked the raw flair of those.  2 This has no easy one cover all answer for me but I’m less focused on theatric gimmics than someone portraying a characters thoughts, actions, and choices with a convincing psychology. An interesting person.  3 I don’t think there is a should there in the first place. I think it must be what you want to portray and what theme/mood you want a game to absorb. It can very well be a modern mind-set pasted into a bronze-age technological world. It’s fantasy. But it can just as well portray a very different one. Completely alien and unfamiliar or exploring old values and traditions.  4 D&D is what you make it to be. I still run some games old-schoolish so I think ‘miss’ may be the wrong word for me but there are things I think are lost to new generation of players. At least in the sense that I wish they could get to try to experience it.  - It felt less pretentious and, oddly enough, less restricted. There are so many advices on do’s and don’ts embedded in it. Not least in what themes can be explored.  - It seems people often feel everything is about knowing the system, the builds, and competing for most extravagant pre-destined backstories that turn into prophecies foretelling what the character will experience.  Where there was uncertainty and just the promise of adventure.  Anyways I enjoyed seeing your post and your passionate take on the game and the hobby in your profile. May the 13y old adventure-girl excitement never fade!
Thank you for this thoughtful reply. Unfortunately we have filled the slot, but what is important here is creating a base of like-minded players for future games and campaigns. Stay in touch! I am sure at some point we will have the chance to explore unsanitized worlds of fantasy together. I am currently hoping to come across a Sunday or Tuesday or Wednesday game, or perhaps starting one myself.
