So
in relation to some other off camera world building in Udra, I have
determined that Udra has 6 day weeks as patterned after the Akan days of the week .
Fresh
Day: The start of the weekly cycle. Traditionally people start big
tasks and chores on Fresh Day. It's a bit like Monday. It's called
"Mono" meaning first or start in Lomite/Kordo Council
Day: This is traditionally a day on which courts pass sentence of
criminals. Or councils of elders meet to decide something in villages.
In Kordo the name is "Fo" for meeting.
Behind
Day: Also called the Destroyed Day. Tisambe legend has it that 15 to
20,000 years ago the Amazons of Tisambe defeated and cursed the Kosan
Pharaoh this day. Despite that, the suspicious, even in Udra, associate
the day with bad luck or bad omens. The intellectuals scoff at
this. In Kordo, it is rendered "Nkyi" for hate-taboo day. Town
Day: Sometimes called Noble Day or Royal Day. This the day local nobles
and chief's make decrees or change government policy. All coups happen
just before the weekend, right? In Kordo/Lomite this is rendered "Kuro"
meaning town or village.
Sleep
Day: Sometimes called Death or Shroud Day. This is traditionally a day
on which funerals or ceremonies of remembrance or religious solemnity
are held. Sometimes also called Covered Day for the shrouds.
In Kordo this is "Nwuna" This can informally be considered the start of the weekend but the practice is not widely adopted. Free
Day: This is the time off day. The Udran weekend. Sometimes called
Nothing Day, as in "I have nothing to do" or "I have no obligations."
Also called "Servant Day" for the time off implications. In
Kordo this is rendered "Kwa" which is an idiomatic expression meaning,
roughly, "voila!" or "lo!" or "just like that!" again, kind of an
expression for the freedom from obligation.
So
having worked out the names of the days of the week, the months and a
few holidays, Kitemaker's Day for example, I'm at last free to
fabricate a timeline of Udra history. Hooray!
