Weekly Gaming Summary #61 (06/12/2021)

A Thank You For Playing today's Dungeons & Dragons 5 th  Edition game of 06/12/2021 - From 10:00 am EDT, until 2:00 pm EDT, and our 71st Gaming Session, goes out to:   Barbarian – Human - Marcuria Violezi -  Connor D. Wizard (War Mage) – High Elf – Dia Xiloscient -  Elizabeth K.     Whom Could Not Make It Today!   Monk – Elf – Farren Nidanas -  Bahrrenn Drakke Wizard (Evocation) – High Elf – Feralda -  Chad N.     Game Summary for Saturday (06/12/2021):   Opening Scene: Day 37 : July 26th, 8:15 am   When the adventurers start exploring the east hall’s damaged eastern side and begin to make their way into roughly 5 ft wide tunnels that were dug out in rough fashion with rubble littering the floor, there is a stench of death which grows stronger the farther down the south facing tunnel they proceed into. Reaching a wider  area, another opening is seen on the south wall. The sounds of hissing and snarling can be heard nearby. Roqar walks over to the south opening spotting a smashed open door and several ghouls in the room beyond!  Inititative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 Begins! (Only showing hits since the session was combat heavy and made the chat archive 78 pages long!) Being in the tunnel, Marcuria retreats back out! Dia, falls back but not all the way out just yet! Ghouls #5, 8, 9 starting moving into the tunnel, getting behind the ghouls in front of them! Farren, turns back to head out of the tunnel! Avery, casts the Heroism spell upon Roqar to imbue her with bravery, giving her +4 temporary hit points! Rolo, stays back away from the action! Ghouls #01and #03, just stays back until the other ghouls starts moving out of the room and into the tunnel. Feralda, backs up a bit. Ghouls #02 and  #04, stays back, waiting for other ghouls to get moving. Juan, backs out of the tunnel area. Ghoul #06, stays back for now.   Combat Round #02: Dia, teleports herself with the Thunder Step spell to a spot near the frontline of dwarven ghouls and grabs Rogar then teleports back, releasing a 160 decible thunder wave in her wake and 6 nearby dwarven ghouls fail their constitution saves and take 13 damage! The thunderwave rumbles throughout the fortress sending debris down upon the adventurers in the tunnel or in the eastern side of the east hall causing a possible 1d4 damage. Marcuria made her dexterity save only taking 1 damage. So did Avery taking 2 damage as well as Farren, only taking 2 damage. Ghouls #5, 8, 9, are still on the move. Farren, moves to get Roqar out of the tunnel. Avery, moves out of the tunnel area. Rolo, continues to stay back. Ghouls #1 and #3 moves to get at the party! Feralda, casts the Bonfire spell near the opposite end of the tunnel to help keep the dwarven ghouls at bay. Ghouls #02 and  #04, stays back, waiting for other ghouls to get moving. Juan, moves to where Dia is. Ghoul #06, moves to attack the party.   Combat Round #03: Ghoul #07, moves towards the party. Roqar, draws her sword and just waits for the ghouls to come up the tunnel. Marcuria, waits on the ghouls. Dia, casts a Flaming Sphere spell, farther down the tunnel from the bonfire, which Ghoul #08 fails his dexterity save, taking 9 fire damage and defeating him! Ghoul #09, decides to run through the flaming sphere, causing his death after 9 damage! Farren and Avery, waits on the ghouls to come up the tunnel. Rolo, stays back. Ghoul #03, moves up towards the party. Ghoul #01, runs through the flaming sphere taking 9 damage but stops at the bonfire! Feralda, fires a Fire Bolt but missed Ghoul #03! Ghoul #04 decides to run through the flaming sphere, dealing 9 damage to him! Ghoul #02, stays away from the flaming sphere! Juan, fires a bolt with the light crossbow, dealing 4 damage to Ghoul #03! Ghoul #06, stays back for now. 2 nd Attacks for Round #03: Dia continues to move the flaming sphere on a bonus action which now hits Ghoul #05, dealing 9 damage and defeating him!   Combat Round  #04: Ghoul #07, stays back. Roqar, readies her short bow. Marcuria, waits for the ghouls to come up. Dia, fires a Ray of Frost at a Ghoul #03 and missed! Farren, fires a crossbow, dealing 7 damage to Ghoul #03! Avery, casts Vicious Mockery upon Ghoul #03, whom fails his wisdom save, dealing 6 psychic damage and defeating him! Rolo, wanted to cast a Fire Bolt but a pillar of stone is in the way! Ghoul #01, falls back from the Fire sphere, taking 9 damage! Ghoul #04, decides to run through the bonfire, makes his constitution save and takes 5 damage! Feralda, having delayed her move, now casts a Fie Bolt, hitting Ghoul #04 for 16 damage, defeating it! Ghoul #02 stays back from the flaming sphere. Juan, casts Divine Radiance on  himself to deal an extra 1d4 radiate damage with a weapon! Ghoul #06, stays back.   2 nd Attacks for Round #04 Dia, moves the sphere dealing 9 damage each to two more ghouls!   Combat Round #05: Ghoul #07, stays back. Roqar and Marcuria, just waits. Dia, moves the Flaming sphere into 2 more dwarven ghouls, dealing 9 damage and defeating #07! Farren, Avery and Rolo, just stays back and waits. Ghoul #01, stays away from the flaming sphere! Feralda, dismisses the bonfire spell from the tunnel. Ghoul #02, stays back from the flaming sphere! Juan, fires a bolt with the light crossbow, hitting Ghoul #06 for 4 damage!
Ghoul #06, falls back away from the flaming sphere!   Combat Round #06: Roqar, moves back down the tunnel towards Juan. Marcuria, stays where she is. Dia, moves the flaming sphere into Ghouls #01 and #02 dealing 9 damage and defeating them! Farren, Avery and Rolo, stays back for now. Feralda, moves down the tunnel. Juan, fires a bolt from the light crossbow, dealing 4 damage to Ghoul #06! Ghoul #06 stays back due to the flaming sphere!   Combat Round #07: Dia, moves the Flaming sphere into Ghoul #06, dealing 9 damage and defeating him! End of Combat!   Nothing of value is found upon the dwarven ghouls. The adventurers now all move down to the chamber that the ghouls were occupying to see: This chamber was once a shrine, as evidenced by wall carvings that depict dwarves carrying censers and observing religious rites. However, the eastern section of the room has collapsed, filling the area with rubble. Gnawed bones scattered among the debris are the remains of a number of dwarves. Searching through the debris upon the floor, Rolo finds a platinum amulet on a thin but sturdy gold chain. It bears a symbol of a hammer and anvil.  Rolo recognized it as the symbol of the dwarven god Moradin. Dia, finds a steel coffer, which was not locked and opens it to find a vial inside. Rolo, then casts detect magic as a ritual , and sees faint magic coming from the vial! Rolo then casts the Identify spell upon the now opened vial to find that it is a potion of Superior Healing (8d4+8 hit points restored). It is a red liquid that glimmers when shaken or stirred. Juan takes possession of the potion. Marcuria heads up a north tunnel to see that it leads into a small chamber. Then the party heads up a 5 ft wide flight of stairs in the southern part of the shrine where the ghouls were. This then opened out onto a heading 50 ft to the north to a single door and bending westward. Just to the south a 10 ft wide flight of stairs goes down to a landing and this is where the party heads down. Once on the landing they proceed west down another 10 ft wide flight of stairs which opens out into a large room. The stench of death hangs heavy in the air of this dusty, pillared hall, which has a dark, soot-stained fireplace at the east end. A deep alcove in the south wall contains a dais, atop which rests a limestone throne flanked by granite statues of dwarf warriors. Between the throne and the fireplace is a hallway with stairs leading up, (the stairs the party just came down on). As Roqar moves to have a closer look at the throne the stench of death grows stronger as she approaches then suddenly out from behind jumps up at her a dwarf ghoul, shrieking loudly! This startles Roqar enough that she is stunned for one round. The dwarf ghoul is wearing clothing typical of a castellan. The dwarven ghoul castellan, bites Roqar for 11 piercing damage! Initiative rolls are made and Combat Round #01 Begins! Dia, fires a Ray of Frost at the Ghoul Castellan, dealing 12 cold damage! Juan, pounds the Ghoul Castellan with the magically glowing +1 LightBringer Mac dealing 5 + 2 radiant damage! Farren, throws a dart at the Ghoul Castellan dealing 6 piercing damage! Avery, casts the Vicious Mockery spell upon the Dwarf Ghoul Castellan, dealing 6 psychic damage! Rogar, is stunned at the moment. Feralda, fires a Fire Bolt spell at the Ghoul Castellan, dealing 10 fire damage and defeating him! Roqar, still takes another stab at the dead Ghoul Castellan for biting her, dealing 5 + 12 sneak attack damage with the shortsword! More dwarven ghouls come down and out of a chimney, now all covered in soot, like the party is from when they first climbed into the fortress!   Combat Round  #02! Marcuria, takes a dodge action. Dia, casts a Ray of Frost spell at Ghoul #01, dealing 14 cold damage! Rolo, casts a fire bolt cantrip at ghoul #02, dealing 3 fire damage! Farren, fires a bolt with a hand crossbow, dealing 8 piercing damage to Ghoul #02! Avery, casts the Healing Word spell upon Roqar from a distance, healing back 5 hit points! Roqar, just moves to engage. Ghoul #01, claws Marcuria for 8 slashing damage and she rolls a 23 on her constitution save and is not paralyzed! Feralda, casts the Burning Hands spell, deal 6 fire damage to one Ghoul, whom made its dexteriry save and 11 full damage to the other! This defeats Ghoul #01! Two more soot covered ghouls have now climbed out of the fireplace!   Combat Round #03 Marcuria, evokes her Rage ability and uses her Form of the Beast to create a carapace, which hardens her skin into tough hide or chitin plus 2 to AC 19 now. Her Hit points increased  5+ constitution modifier. Marcuria,  pounds Ghoul #02 with the warhammer for 9 bludgeoning damage! Dia, casts the Web spell into the fireplace in order to block any more ghouls from coming down it’s chimney. It also traps one Ghoul #02 completely while the other, Ghoul #03, makes its dexterity saving throw to move at half speed to get out of it. Rolo, fires the Magic Missiles spell, sending  3 missiles into Ghoul #03, (the lose one). [Note: Being a force missile this should also catch the webbing on fire. Buring away a 5 x 5 ft cube of it per round. I am checking to see if the webbing would initially block the magic missiles and even flaming arrows, yet will catch the webbing on fire. Also, originally, those caught also had a 5% cumulative chance per turn (10 minutes) of suffocation from the webbing! So in this case the dwarves could suffocate, since you cast a 20 x 20 ft sq that is 5 ft high.] Juan, fires a bolt with the light crossbow at Ghoul #03, dealing 9 damage! Farren, tossed a dart at Ghoul #04, dealing 8 damage! Roqar, justs moves up by the web. More dwarven ghouls are coming down the steps now!   Combat Round #04: Marcuria, pounds Ghoul #03 with the warhammer for 14 bludgeoning damage, defeating him! Dia, casts the Flaming Sphere spell, rolling it into two Ghouls, dealing 2 damage to one (made the Dexterity saving throw) and 3 to the other! Juan, fires a bolt with the light crossbow at Ghoul #06, hitting for 7 piercing damage! A Ghoul stays back from the Flaming Sphere while another decides to run through, taking 3 damage, but missed clawing Juan! Farren, hits Ghoul #05 with the quarterstaff  for 8 damage! Avery casts Vicious Mockery at Ghoul #04 but it makes it’s wisdom saving throw, rolling a 16 needing ≥ 15, thus having no effect! Feralda, cast fire bolt at a Ghoul, catching the webbing on fire as well, dealing 6 + 5 fire from web damage, and defeating him!   Combat Round#05: Dia, casts the Ray of Frost at Ghoul #04, dealing 12 cold damage and defeating the Ghoul! Rolo, fires the Magic Missiles spell, sending 4 bolts at Ghoul #05, dealing a total 9 force damage and defeating him! Juan, slashed Ghoul #07 with the magical +1 two-handed greatsword for 9 damage!
A Ghoul needed to make a constitution save against the Flaming sphere again and did so only taking 2 damage! Farren, fires a bolt with the hand crossbow at Ghoul #06, dealing 11 piercing damage, defeating him! Avery, fires a walloping bolt with the hand crossbow at Ghoul #07. It deals 4 damage the strength saving throw is made rolling a 17 needing ≥ 10 so it stays on his feet! Roqar and Feralda, stays put.   2 nd Attacks for Round #05: Dia, moves the Flaming Sphere into two Ghouls that fail their constitution saving throw, taking 4 damage each!   Combat Round #06: Marcuria, uses her Reckless Attack ability, to gain advantage on an attack, but attack rolls against her also have advantage! Marcuria, pounds Ghoul #07 with the warhammer, dealing 13 bludgeoning damage and defeating him! Marcuria, makes a dexterity save due to the Flaming sphere and takes 5 fire damage after a failed dexterity save! End of Combat! Three more rounds left on the Flaming sphere. Dia continues to move the flaming sphere up the stairs while Feralda first looks up the fireplace chimney to see at last two ghouls in it.
