[LFP] Looking for Player to Fill a Vacant Spot in an Established Roleplay Focused OPEN-WORLD Homebrew Campaign! [DND5E][DISCORD]

1624726459

Edited 1624730444
Hello! I'm a long time DM looking to strap another player into the mix. We had one of our players forced to step back from the campaign now that her business was able to reopen (it's a sad-HYPE situation)! Our campaign is set in a mostly homebrewed world (some things remain constant with DND lore, such as the cultural conventions of race/lineages and some thing are entirely homebrewed [e.g. entirely homebrewed Pantheon]). One of my specialties as a DM is knitting your character into the story, these starting points will then evolve and develop based on your actions and how you wish to situate yourself in the world. So GET EXCITED, I will work with you to homebrew your character into exactly what you want or envision it to be, my only requirement is that characters match the relative power level of the other members of the group. :) We currently have six players and are running the campaign each week. Characters are currently level 5, but that may change by the time you enter the story! It is my desire to get you, the new player, into the campaign no later than the last Friday in July.  A point of note, the party lost their healer! So a healer focused character may have priority, but my first and foremost concern is strapping on a player that will mesh well with the party.  The time slot is Friday at 7pm-10:30/11pm EST.  We will have to schedule 1 or 2 one-on-one meetings where I can get you integrated into the world and work on character development. My style of DMing is one that focuses on storytelling and puts a heavier emphasis on roleplaying rather than combat, with the pacing favoring fewer but harder fights (combat that will actually be challenging but tailored to the capability of the party). With that in mind, there will be an expectation that players will lean into that roleplay aspect and spend more time developing the idea of their character than the mechanics of it.  The style of this campaign will focus on intrigue, puzzling, and an open world narrative that explores the idea of causation and consequence. The world, which is entirely home brewed (including some changes to monsters and environmental effects + I am willing to homebrew characters as well), will evolve in the background as you play the game through dice rolls that I do behind the scenes in which the player actions will manipulate to help influence what groups and factions rise and fall with the tides of fate. In that endeavor, I enjoy when my players work to situate themselves within the world and am more than willing, and truly enjoy, working the story to fit the ideas of the characters. My one caveat in this is that in a joint storytelling experience, the balance is gained through sharing the time at the 'table' with the other players that you play with. I don't mind when players play center stage or showboating characters, but my preference is that the trait be exclusively that of the character and not the player behind the character. The campaign will be 18+ and explore mature and visceral themes, such as slavery, tyranny, survival,  villainy, racism, and societal  degradation  (to name a few) that allow us to explore philosophical concepts to a greater degree.  To facilitate this, we will be using black cards (if any situations arise that a player is uncomfortable with occurring they can use this and we will pivot to change course away from the situation), grey cards (if a situation is one that a player wants to move past but is comfortable with occurring we will fade to black and not narrate the situation any further  (all sexual context is fade to black). Important Notes: Absolutely No Sexual Assault. Races will be placed in a social hierarchy (you can work to change that hierarchy if you so choose). LGBTQ+ Friendly campaign (sexual preferences will not be a part of the social hierarchy). Evil is the product of a persons heart not their race, although NPCs may perceive other races as evil due to past trauma, etc. Rules Lawyering is undesirable, the rules act as a framework more than a rigid structure.  If you are interest in applying, please feel free to comment, send me a DM (althought I am not sure if my roll20 account can receive DMs at the moment), or message me on Discord at Soundtribe#8124. Additionally, I will be sifting through all of the applications and scheduling a brief (preferably no longer than 10 to 15 minutes) sit down where we can talk about D&D, what you want to see from the campaign, and how you play to see if you are a good fit! Please fill out this form and send it to me somewhere :D What is your name and what are your pronouns? How old are you? What is your experience with pen and paper RPGs (if any)? What type of stories do you enjoy?  Is there a particular character you've been wanting to play? If so, tell me about the character. If you would prefer to wait to see the world and or party before constructing your character, tell me about your favorite character .  What do you enjoy the most about DnD? Can you describe your DnD playstyle?  Can you consistently make the weekly time slot of Friday at 7PM EST? If you have any questions for me post them up! And make sure to follow the thread :)
Hi! I'd love to join if you'd have me. I'm perfectly comfortable playing any type of character and would have been hoping to join a more RP focused group. Fair warning when I get too excited I've been know to do talk over people or get off topic. If I do point it out and I'll stop they are terrible habits I wanna get out of. I just don't notice them in the moment

mm, im curious but 6 current and a +1 making 7, that seems like a lot of players
I shot you a friend request on Discord from Nomad Tex#3131 but figured I'd go ahead and post my answers here instead of waiting for you to accept it there. What is your name and what are your pronouns? He/Him How old are you? 2 8 What is your experience with pen and paper RPGs (if any)? I've been playin D&D for nearly 2 years now. I was a little late to the party but really jumped in once I joined. I have all the sourcebooks and often find myself referencing or casually perusing them for info or inspiration.  What type of stories do you enjoy? This is going to sound cliche or something but really all of them. Maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase almost 2 years later but every single story I jump into seems like a whole new experience to explore to me. I love it and I love seeing what the DM can spin and how they can weave the players and their personal stories into the party and overarching stories and activies. Is there a particular character you've been wanting to play? If so, tell me about the character. If you would prefer to wait to see the world and or party before constructing your character, tell me about your favorite character. There is one I've been wanting to let loose on a world. Someone who sees the beauty of the world without the shackles placed on it by governments and dogmas. They want to explore the world, learn it's mysteries, and help some people along the way. They have a clever whit and while not chaotic stupid themselves, they would serve as a catalyst for party members who may be on the fence about a decision. To to push some juicy or impish narratives that would affect party/world dynamics. Or just help them cut loose now and then when they are wound too tight. In a judiciously appropriate way of course. Going overboard with that sort of mechanical becomes improper for the party and makes everything wonky. Mechanically they would serve as a flex role that can quickly adapt and push into whatever area the party is missing at the time. A frontliner, who can also heal or buff/debuff when necessary. Who has a fairly unique bit of enemy line penetration if that is necessary. They are also an excellent duelist as he was trained to be by an acquaintance who opened his eyes to the need of having some martial prowess accompanying his curiosity of the world. They are a lore bard with a single dip into hexblade. The hexblade coming from his time with the Duelist martial mentor who's story might shift a bit depending on the world lore and information. In fact every part of this, and the in depth backstory, could all be subject to tweaks or even sweeping changes depending on the world and lore of the world. Just the base concept I have for this character in particular. I could even roll up an entirely new character if needed. What do you enjoy the most about DnD? How off the rails it can be. I don't even mean that as in derailing the DM's story. Just in that fact that compared to video games, there are virtually no limits outside of what your character is just actually able to do. No code to slow you down or hoping the devs planned for that route. Just. Anything can happen. Good or bad.....and there ain't no save scumming here lol. Everything just feels more substantial, real, and meaningful. Can you describe your DnD playstyle? I'd say. Party dynamics I'm a support and combat dynamics I'm a frontliner. What I mean by this is between the characters I like to often stay out of the direct limelight and kinda of guide other characters development and provide witty quips to remember. Of course I'm no stranger to taking the reigns and being in the front seat, I just don't like to always be that guy and make sure others get their moment to shine. Then combat wise, I don't know why, I just have a fetish about being a frontliner I guess lol. No matter what class I play, I want to be able to contribute to a party who can entirely wade into the sea of battle a la Lord of the Rings. Actually, that pretty much explains where it comes from. Where even the archer is out here shooting and stabbing arrows in at point blank range haha. Can you consistently make the weekly time slot of Friday at 7PM EST? Yes. Hey look! A short answer!
amishrambo said: mm, im curious but 6 current and a +1 making 7, that seems like a lot of players Sharing the table time is definitely a nuanced part of having that many players. But with the nature of an online campaign it allows 2 or even 3 players to have something come up and we are still able to play. :D
I am interested
What is your name and what are your pronouns?     Kol they / he How old are you?     28 What is your experience with pen and paper RPGs (if any)?     Ive been playing on and off since about 2012. I've been on both sides of the table but probably spent a more time as a DM than a player. My longest game ran about 3 years but since then Ive played more shorter games with different groups. What type of stories do you enjoy?      Mainly I want a story to have a good mix of serious and fun moments. If everything is always doom and gloom it's no fun to play and if it's all fart and weed jokes it's not engaging. That said I really enjoy a classic fantasy setting or magical realism. The last game I ran was a Sci-fi-ish game where the players would swap settings / genres by traveling to different planets and that was really fun. I really enjoy a story that has a lot of worldbuilding too. If I pick up a book and there's 3+ maps at the front I'm buying it. If you've ever read The Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb that's my whole thing. Is there a particular character you've been wanting to play? If so, tell me about the character. If you would prefer to wait to see the world and or party before constructing your character, tell me about your favorite character .      I would want to know more about this story before I said for sure. I know you've lost your healer and I would be interested in playing a character that can heal but I don't usually like playing "The Healer." But like bards, artificers, and druids are some of my favorite classes to play and they can all do a fair bit of healing. Lately I've been wanting to play a character that's basically a union rep or a therapist but I know that can break a game so idk if it would fit in here. Some of the characters I've played in the for various past games are         A dragonborn bard who looks like death but acts like a teddy bear and only plays metal covers famous songs.         An entling druid and with a reputation as the local 'weird pigeon lady' and covert eco-terroritst.         An elf rogue with a death wish and literally more knives than sense. What do you enjoy the most about DnD?     I like the story building aspect. It's like writing a book but I don't have to type as much. Plus its collaborative and fun so you can't procrastinate it. One of my favorite games to play on car trips is to just make up a story with someone. Can you describe your DnD playstyle?      Like I said in the first question I think it's very important to have a good mix of serious and silly moments and I try to work with that in mind as we play. I'm more focused on facilitating an interesting narrative than I am fighting. Imo no matter which side of the table you're on just saying "I cast magic missile again" 800 times is not fun. I prefer to avoid the fight entirely or try to find a creative solution. But I'm also not on a mission to just break shit constantly because that's no fun either. Can you consistently make the weekly time slot of Friday at 7PM EST?     I should be able to make this time pretty well. I might occasionally have to stay late at work and that would make it a little tight. But 7 is late enough that it shouldn't be a problem.
