Update: We have lost one player already, but I have replaced said player. Right now, we have the following party roles filled: Barbarian , Cleric , Druid , and Sorcerer . Indigo and Byron have both not created their character yet. Just a reminder that we are playing this Wednesday at 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM EST . It will be a weekly game. All chat for the game will be in Roll20. Discord is only going to be used for downtime, DM questions, and OOG interactions outside of the actual game. A few tips for a text-based game, as speed will be critical to keeping the game moving, fun, and engaging: 1. We will be using side initiative . When combat starts, I will post the following: "/r 2d20" (for initiative; first d20 is always players, second d20 is always monsters; highest roll wins) "ROUND 1! PLAYERS/MONSTERS WIN! Post your actions (or I will post the Monsters actions)!" 2. When posting your combat actions, you need to use macros and use the least amount of posts possible and post all relevant information in your post at the same time . Here is why: if 6 players each post 4 - 6 things (one post for their move, one post for their action, one post for their attack roll, one post for their damage roll, etc.) the game will quickly get out of hand, because after everyone posts at the same time, breaking up the chat log, I will have to sift through all of them and try to interpret the results of these actions, one by one. So, to keep things flowing and easy for me, try to do something like this: Post #1: "Rath the Dwarf Fighter will charge the orcs (moves 25 feet) and swing his greataxe (action) and spend his second wind (bonus action)." Post #2: Attack Action Macro Button (contains attack roll, damage roll, and critical damage roll in case you score one, and lists any additional effects that your attack will do to an enemy that gets hit by it). This should be a single post. Post #3: Second Wind roll for hit points (you should immediately update your token's hit points). This should be a single post. Try not to use more than three posts for everything you are doing. This will help tremendously. As a second example for spellcasters: Post #1: "Delsenora the Mage will shuffle over to the doorway (moves 10 feet) and cast a charm person spell at the hobgoblin (action). The hobgoblin needs to make a Wisdom save against DC 14." Post #2: Charm Person Spell Description. 3. During dungeon exploration, the game will run very similarly. Each exploration turn (10 minutes long) will let you take an action. It will go like this: "All right, it's 10:20 AM. What are your actions for the next turn?" Player #1: "I am going to use first aid on myself to spend Hit Dice." Player #2: "I will investigate the statue, running my fingers along its base and surface to see if there are any grooves, depressions, or oddities that might be worth studying further. Also, while I'm doing this, I want to examine the architecture itself to determine what culture might have produced something like this and what deity it might be depicting." Player #3: "I am going to cast detect magic as a ritual spell and then wave it around this room, especially at the statue." Player #4: "I'd like to spend the turn talking with the other party members. What should we do next? I really think we are heading the wrong way. The left corridor has an iron door at the end of it. I bet Old Ragnar's treasure hoard is that way. We are going completely in the opposite direction!" Player #5: "Well, I'd rather check down this hallway and series of rooms because what if monsters are in there and they come up behind us while we are banging on the iron door, trying to get it to open? I don't want to get trapped or ambushed." [Players 4 and 5 go back and forth for a few minutes in real-time while the DM responds to the actions of players 1, 2, and 3. While he does this, player 2 makes the occasional smart-assed comment to players 4 and 5, but mostly focuses on investigating the statue.] DM: Okay, one turn has passed. (Checks for wandering monsters because the two players were arguing loudly.) It is 10:30 AM. And just as Player 4 and 5's argument reaches a climax, a gang of skeletons cackle gleefully from the down the corridor and begin charging towards your party, a fell green flame burning with their empty eye sockets! ROUND 1 - MONSTERS WIN!
