Hello
prospective players!
I
have so far run 9 sessions of this weekly Sci-fi game that goes from about 2pm
PST to 6/7pm on Sundays. We are using the Cypher system (you don't need to buy
the book), and I do a catered PC creation so no studying is needed. The system
is built around a single d20 roll and that's it. We are finishing the Prologue
of the campaign where players explored their origins before setting off into
space on a grand adventure. I can't share much more currently because if they
are trolling this sub then they may get an accidental spoiler.
There
are 2 consistent players currently, and 1 player that isn't able to make it
work schedule-wise. So you would be the 3rd person to round out a 3 player
campaign through this space opera-esque game. We are heavy role play focused,
you'll pretty much in character the entire time.
If
the stuff below looks good to you then send me a little bit about yourself as a
player. We'll touch base, and hopefully you're a great fit!
The
game:
Discord
for everything (no video), one player uses Roll20 for an upgraded character
sheet. The server is beautiful, and already full of juicy lore for your
consumption. Some people work better through text and images so I try and post
that sort of content regularly as it comes up in game.
High
Sci-fi! In the same way as a High Fantasy setting, this game makes a lot of
assumptions about the rules of the universe and explains it away as, "It
works because science." We never get hyper granular when it would take
away from the make-believe aspect of the game. However, the players are
immensely enjoying the slower instances of things such as waiting to enter a
room full of gas by doing science-y analysis of the gas to determine its
uses/danger. They also fought a giant mecha-Kraken in space, so it gets a
little wacky.
Space
exploration! (Think Firefly if that helps with a reference point) Every planet,
outpost, etc. is likely to be a non-human cultural immersion where you the
players have to decide what's important to you. Do you help the locals resolve
a dispute with a fanatical group of terrorists? Or do you connect with a nearby
hermit-scientist that is on the breakthrough of their career, but needs a test
subject? Maybe you skip it all and find the oldest most ancient facility to
loot it for all the most valuable tech possible.
This
is a game about just about anything EXCEPT for unadulterated murder and mayhem.
Players gain experience in this system by accomplishing story arcs that they
decide for themselves or as a group. Actively going around terrorizing people
for OOC amusement has no place in this game. The Cypher system is incredibly
deadly, and players should understand that their actions have consequences.
That being said the players also get to be incredibly deadly. High stakes and
all that
The
players: LGBTQ+, hovering around age 30
This
is a mature setting with often difficult subject matter. We want any player to
feel welcome. We believe in consent at the table, and that people are allowed
to have role play boundaries. It's encouraged to actively be open about what
you want from a scene, session, or game. Everyone is largely a DM in some capacity
so collaborative storytelling and interpersonal character development is the
key focus. You will NOT like this game if all you want is a reactive experience
where you don't need to come up with anything yourself. We are going with 3
players because it has proven to be the perfect amount for each PC to really
interact and develop within the game each week.
Your
character can be nearly anything you can think of, they'll need a language,
some aspirations, and a reason to want to work with others, but that's about
it. You'll need to be consistent to game on Sunday, and interactive on discord
during the week. e.g. confirming scheduled time for game if I message out on a
Wednesday checking in. I'm wanting to bring in the new player asap, as soon as
this Sunday game if there is enough time.
tl:dr Sci-fi shenanigans. Send me a message with a
description of what you want, and I'll respond if it is a good match.
