Image Quality/Compression?

So over the years I've noticed that the images I upload for dungeons etc. have been lower quality. Today I thought I'd make a comparison. This is the same image, to the left it's displayed in roll20 and to the right in photoshop. That is a huge difference, is this because of some compression from R20's side, is it how R20 renders images, and is there any way to avoid it? (The image is on the map layer and the size is set to be it's original resolution.)
When an image is uploaded to roll20, the image is uploaded in multiple sizes. thumb, min, med, max, original. Depending on the resolution a different version of the image is shown. If you want to compare the image on quality select the image in roll20, press Shift-Z... that loads the original sized image.
