The team set forth the next morning figuring out how to capture the bizarre Displacer Beast, a monster from the feywild. It wasn't going to be easy, but fortunately the team was able to pool their resources and contacts to get some information. Enigma was able to use his influence in the Lord's Alliance to focus down the target area; City Watchmen helped point out the areas of recent attacks by some panther beast. Fortunately, there have been no humanoid deaths, but there have been reports of missing pets and animals. It's only going to be a matter of time, though... Yuan tried to track the creature down, using the points Enigma had figured out by making a map. However, even with his finely honed senses from his Lupine Mask, he wasn't able to get a bead - the creature was good at covering its tracks, it seems. Ray was able to get some eyewitness accounts of the creature; one neighbor even witnessed the beast dragging away a carcass in the alleys nearby Fishgut Court. Finally, Sigurd was able to investigate all the clues and pinpoint where the beast might be hiding out during the day, right around Fishgut Court. The team had the right location now, but now how to trap the creature... Yuan decided to call in his Zhentarim contact, Ziraj the Hunter, for some leads. While he didn't come up with any leads per se (Ziraj's normal prey are of the kind standing on two legs), he did give Yuan some tips about good lookout spots and stakeout points he might use to lie in wait with a trap. He pointed out a building which was an abandoned warehouse that Ziraj often used himself for his... work. The team was able to scrounge together some decent quality meat to use as bait. Yuan and Enigma had recalled that while displacer beasts were deadly, they weren't especially bright. However, Enigma had a plan to fix that in the most literal sense by lacing the meat with the Celestial Sunrise potion; consuming it would cause the Displacer Beast to glow in the dark and be easy to track and follow in the darkness, in case it managed to give the slip. Enigma channeled his ki to grant himself vision in the dark, and waited for the team to finish preparing... After Ray gave the meat a nice warm scent, and Sigurd laced the area with some Alarm spells, the team lie in wait; Enigma and Yuan up in the trees, while Sigurd and Ray wait in the nearby abandoned warehouse. Ray decided to cover Yuan with a Silence spell, masking any sounds he might make, though also preventing him from hearing anything. Fortunately, the displacer beast didn't notice anything out of place, and it was easily taken in by the bait, as it crept along the alley to devour its prize, unaware of the trap awaiting it. When it consumed the meat, its eyes and mouth lit up with the effect of the Celestial Sunrise, and in its confusion, the team struck out, with Ray leading the charge and using a Reduce spell to try and shrink it down to a more manageable size. However, it foiled the spell, being a bit more resilient than expected. However, Yuan quickly made his way down the tree and pounced upon the creature, flying into another wild rage - this time, a bright beam of radiant power burst forth from his chest and blinded the beast, setting it up enough where he could strike it and ruin its displacement effect temporarily, allowing Sigurd and his steel defender to also jump in and join the fray, the two warriors pounding the crap out of the beast. Enigma blasted it with his Breath of Karnage, but found that the beast was hard to pin down with blasts such as this. More significantly, though, apparently Enigma had the ability to FLY! Which he put on full display for the team! Ray decided to give Yuan a boost, and granted him an Enlarge effect, significantly boosting his strength and power! Which he used immediately to clobber the beast again with, followed by Sigurd trying to incapacitate it with his metallic breath weapon, but the beast was too resilient, yet couldn't avoid his defender's follow up strike. The beast decided to try and ditch the party in the canal, taking its chances by jumping into the water, hoping they wouldn't be able to follow. A little bit of water wasn't going to deter this team, though, as Ray made his way to the canal and used a Sleep spell on the beast... causing it to fall limp in the water and slowly be taken away by the canal. Enigma was ready for it, though, in case it made its way toward him. Not before Yuan dove into the water, though, and recovered the beast, managing to use his incredible strength, boosted by the Enlarge spell, to hoist the beast over the landing and back onto shore. With a final whack, Enigma sealed the victory and knocked it out cold, ensuring it wouldn't wake up from its slumber for a while... Sigurd relayed some bad news, though - it was much too large for his bag of holding, meaning the team would have to haul it back manually. Fortunately, this wouldn't be an issue as Sigurd and Yuan were plenty strong to support the main weight of it, and with Enigma's help getting a pass from the City Watch as to why they're hauling a displacer beast with light pouring out of its mouth, they were able to make their way back to the Eyecatcher to deliver their prize. All the while, Yuan happened to notice something peculiar - that a lot of the human passengers spoke with Elvish accents. He would recognize it of course, being a speaker of the language himself. They were also talking about the party's accomplishment and that Zord had a high interest in them. Why they were speaking Elvish though is a mystery, but Yuan didn't think too much of it. Captain Zord was impressed, and invited the team to clean up and have a dinner feast on him to regale the store of how they captured the monstrosity, with Ray delivering a somewhat uninspired performance about the story. Zord didn't seem to care too much, though, and was happy with the result, paying the team their due of 50 gp a piece, staying true to his word. Ray asked him some questions about his thoughts in the goings-on of the city and Zord didn't seem to indicate he cared too much for politics - his purpose was to make people forget about politics and troubles for a while. To one particular wolfman, though, perhaps there was more to this character than what was readily apparent... With that, the team finish dining and went on their way back to the mainland, another job in the bag - and one step closer to getting their tavern up and running with this new funding. The big focus now was getting as much done as possible before the Sornyn festival to try and get the tavern up and running quickly! The team decided to spend the evening at the Three Pearls Night club, where Yuan used the night passes he had gotten to give the team a free stay. Apparently he was quite the celebrity here. They also witnessed their 'friend' Heldar being thrown out for trying to dance on the stage in a drunken stupor. With free drinks and services, what happened that night with everyone is an exercise left to the reader. What awaits the party next? Is there more to the Sea Maidens Faire than what appears? How many lap dances did Ray get that night? Find out this and more, next time, on Waterdeep: Dragon Heist!!
