Thrella’s Correspondence 12 th Uktar Dear Sister, I write to you following my return from the Ettinheights. Lolth what an adventure, possibly the most astounding yet. We struck out optimistically, another experienced crew as you can imagine. Artemis (a half-elf priest of Bahumut), my dear friend (the very furry) Hector Mullins, Three Point Oh (a very charming automaton ), that rapscallion Otto West (with horse), Teres a shady a rogue with an ill look about her and the rather impressive ranger Nadia. We headed northwest seeking this putative Quarry. Such a venture could fortify Castle Bentfinger! Maybe they have a vacant tower for a Wizard? I will submit an application to Lord Ghargh, he seems the officious type. We travelled for a day successfully navigating the frost blasted swamps of the Harrowmere and camped not far from the slaver’s keep, I wonder sister do you think we might share some acquaintances? Maybe it would be wise for one of us to investigate and put any “family ties” to bed, just a thought if we are to maintain a reputation on the surface. Travelling the following day we found ourselves ambushed by Giant Leeches! My horse, Bangers, did not respond with alacrity. He was nearly eaten by the bloody things! As was dear Hector. His sinister new diet seemed only to encourage the foul worms. Fortunately, dear Nadia was a true sight to behold. Never had I seen such skill with a bow, Leech after Leech was laid low by her vicious arrows. Fortunately, Bangers and dear Hector survived the battle and better yet we suffered no further injury to our precious steeds. One thing to note during the battle, Teres seems to have found some source of malcontented magic, worth noting for future ventures. Bless Three Point Oh, she was able to return Bangers to rude health. We recovered from the gruesome encounter and struck onwards. We saw many sinister sights, a village of reptilian frog folk and a great cave that had seemingly created its own desert. Before we reached the Ettinheights we took another nights rest, this is when things got… problematic. Otto and I were taking the watch when to my rear I heard a monstrous croaking, it made the very ground shake. No sooner had I raised my guard than an enormous Froghemoth sprang from the swamp! It was as big as a house and swatted at me with its giant alien tendrils. The first I deflected with my arcane shield but the second swept me into its arms. But for the grace of the Spider Queen I would have been consumed then and there, but bless her name my arcane defences held fast. Nadia responded with three brutal arrows, piercing the foul monster’s hide. No sooner had the arrows struck, I was able to ride the mists to safety and rotted the beast’s wounds with temporal force. Artemis rose to meet the foe and smote their ruin with radiant fire. Now, dear Otto had positioned himself in a very clever place, his ephemeral flintlock rending the creature across its rubbery exterior. Horrors! Dear Hector had yet to rise from his slumber but in spite of the beast's rampant onslaught, he was barely scratched! He woke soon thereafter. The heinous beast had caught my ire. I resolved the formulae and manifested raw lightning. The beast recoiled. To my dismay, it rose up, seemingly undaunted by the shocking blast. Never fear, Otto got to work, slinging magical blackpowder from the hip. Poor Teres had seemed to have awoken in a stupor, I fear her new power has encouraged the use of a hip flask. Her bolts of Eldritch energy seemed to miss their mark. Nevertheless, I pressed the advantage. The creature was wounded, another opportunity to toll the dead presented itself, I duly took the opportunity. Three Point Oh instantiated a spiritual clockwork appendage! What divine power fuels this automaton? Truly incredible. It struck out and wounded the vicious beast. At this point, our favour ran dry. In its rage the beast struck out at Nadia, lifting her into the air and effortlessly swallowing her whole. A savage reminder that the threats of the Frontier are just as merciless as the denizens of the Underdark. We tried to slay it then and there. Spell, sword and munition all to fell the beast, it was not enough. To our horror, the creature, clearly satisfied with its meal, fled into the swamp. I am not sure what provoked me to such an act of self disregard, maybe it was the effort to save dear Bangers, but I could not let Nadia die so horrifically. Through the swamp, we chased the vicious creature. coming across the beast in a huge mire, Artemis in his fury thew a mighty ball of flame, Teres having gained her composure struck true with her eldritch power. Three Point Oh in her cleverness dropped the creature to its knees with a form of a grease trap, Ingenious! Despite our efforts to bring the beast down, still, it stirred. Its great legs carried it on, far from us all, I had one last chance to recover dear Nadia. My fingers outstretched, I uttered the incantation one final time. In the distance I saw the beast recoil, wither and fall. The Froghemoth slain I fell to my knees. Artemis rushed forward, a diamond clasped between his fingers. From the guts of the beast, he had recovered the still form of Nadia. What followed was a true miracle. Light and life were restored to the mighty archer, she rose exhausted but living! There was little to gain from the beast, but our victory was reward enough. I had escorted the party thus far, but felt accompanying Nadia back to Hope was the wisest course, I am minded to return to Korthos and finish what I started with the Sahuagin. As ever dear sister I wish the Spider Queen nests in your dreams, Ever Your Humble Servant, Uriel Ka’Vorrin
Teres's notes and observations from the Source of Stone I haven’t felt the same since we returned from the Castle. It feels like I never sleep. Food doesn’t taste like anything anymore and I am ever so thirsty. But it would be worth it in the end. It is time to far I am going to take this little bargain of mine . This bloody Castle is not just a money pit, but I gotta go and get the damn supplies to fix it up as well! Thankfully I’ve gotten to know the local do-gooders and idiots that will help me in this little trip to find a quarry. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen 3.0 or Hector, they look capable despite their laying around. I’ve never seen Otto or Uriel before but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose. Nadia I can count on, she’s too desperate to outdo her Dad ( wait where did she get those aviators from?). And Artemis my fellow Castle landlord and dare I say friend. We embarked northwest towards the Ettinheights. Not far out of town was saw the stone pillar with many icons and a chest. One day my precious I shall open up that tantalising chest. Nothing else was of note for that day’s travels. Setting up camp for the evening 3.0 told us that healing magic is not as effective on her but she had a stick that could transfer the damage from her to someone else. Basically, she was asking us to take one for the team so she never had to get hurt. Hmmm, 3.0 is on to something here . If I found an impressive stick and said that it was ‘magic’ I could pull of that little scam as well! Jokes on her though we all know her dirty little secret that she got the stick from Ragemaw’s favourite goblin that she conveniently killed. Not that I blame her or anything, I would have done the same thing. Oh gods, Artemis is going off on a moral rant. Oh god, my head, please make it stop. Orcus just kill me now. Arte is even worse than his sister (is that even possible?). He better shut up soon or we can no longer be friends. Oh thank god he changed topics from morality to the castle. He wants to build a refuge for people. Ah, great minds think alike! Nothing says refuge like a good seedy tavern to hide inside. Oh, that note Artemis mentioned that I’ve been drinking too much lately and that I’ll get alcohol poisoning. HA! There is no such thing! Bud even told me so. I can’t believe I told him about you Bud. Perhaps I am getting soft but not soft enough to bring myself to tell him how you died. Also note to self – buy some makeup, everyone is noticing how shit I look lately. Ok, be cool Teres no one has no know what you did and why you look like the walking dead. The next day we were making good progress in the right direction. 3.0 seems to be playing favourites with Hector and Nadia (I’m watching you gearhead). Towards the end of the day we were ambushed by giant leeches. Finally, I got to try out my new powers, and might I say not too shabby. This didn’t stop my horse or Uriel horse getting nearly drained to death. Hector was nearly killed as well. Luckily Nadia’s horseback archery was impressive and effective. Half beaten and tired we called it a night. The third day of our travels we made it to the mountain range. Now it is time to scout out for this quarry. It wasn’t hard to miss the blue dragon lair on the way. Its influence is spreading further that I realised. We have to deal with that…later. We could have made it to the quarry entrance by nightfall but I didn’t want to risk getting exhaustion. Camping close by, I finally had a decent night’s rest. So good in fact, that I was asleep though most of the party getting attacked by a Froghemoth. I got up as Hector and Nadia were stunned by the monster. It ended up picking up Nadia, eating her and running away. We chased the beast down and Uriel was the one to finish it off. I could not aim for shit, but I was super sleepy, who could blame me? The lifeless body of Nadia was coughed up for the creature’s corpse. Artemis in all his do-goodiness was able to revivify her. Wait, he had a diamond on him this whole time? I got to look through his backpack more often. Utterly spent Naida and Uriel took their leave and went back to town. And that my friends, is why you never out do yourself before getting to your destination. Now who is going to show their ugly mug and help us out?

Patrol Report Party composition:  Artemis, Nadia, Terres, 3.0, Hector, Uriel, Otto Mission: A) Locate the quarry B) Secure quarry for stone mining Route Taken:  Hope - 36 miles NW - 36 miles NNW - 6 miles NW - 30 miles W Areas of Interest Day 1 - Slavers keep, approx 36 miles NNW of Hope Day 2- Bullywug villiage, approx 12 miles SW of Blue Dragon Lair Day 3- Blue Dragon Lair, cave mouth located in the Ettinheight mountain range. Approx 60 west of Hope's meridian. Enemy Contacts:   6 Giant Leeches - Eliminated 1 Froghemoth - Eliminated  Casualties:  Nadia - KIA (Swallowed by Froghemoth). Revivified by Artemis. Mission Outcome:   A) Success B) Pending Recommendations:  We skirted around the Bullywug Village undetected, however future reconnaissance of the settlement is recommended.  While we didn't reach the quarry, we could see it up ahead at our final campsite. Uriel and I are too far gone to continue and we'll need to head back to Hope, but the rest of the party is fine. Recommend the rest of the group press on to the quarry.  Personal Reflection: The area around the Blue Dragon lair was unsettling. It's influence over the area appears to have spread since the last time I passed through. I fear the people of Hope will soon need to deal with this threat. My only question is, what could have possibly forced it to flee from it's lair in the western desert?
Source of Stone Part 1 – All frogs are assholes! As told by Otto West   Assholes! So there I was back in Hope without a goddam gold piece to my name.   That asshole Blaze had me questing after a fool’s errand to get some goddam horses for the town.  Like I needed a second horse! I checked the notice board and wouldn’t you know it?  There was a mission that was right up my alley, long range exploration to find some quarry.  How hard could that be?   I got lost reading the middle bit but no doubt there’s plenty of moolah to be had on a quest like that. I joined up with a large crew for this one.  My new buddies were Artemis a half elf cleric, Teres, a creepy looking rogue, Nadia, a grim looking ranger, a strange mechanical creature called 3.0 which was a cleric of some sort, Hector Mullins a hairy chested dude who kept trying to bite things and Uriel, a mean looking Drow wizard. We headed out in cold weather, heading North West to start with.   Nothing happened that day and we camped out for the night.  The next day we pushed on in the same direction through some swamps.  Around midday we were attacked by a bunch of giant leeches.   They didn’t pose a huge threat to us but we were worried about the horses.  Uriel’s horse was nearly killed and Hector Mullins tried to get down and dirty with a leech but he couldn’t lay a finger on it.   I caught a few with my psychic gonnes and Nadia rained arrows from horseback and we quickly finished the fight.   We continued on and camped for the night without any more trouble. The next day we pushed on again, ending up in sight of the area where the quarry was supposed to be.  That night I took watch with Uriel when we heard some horrible creature approaching the camp.  We shouted a warning and just before a huge frog monster charged into the camp! It attacked Uriel but somehow the wizard managed to avoid getting seriously hurt.  Some of the lazy assholes in the group were still asleep in their tents, however, and it looked like it would be curtains for them.   Luckily I got some good licks in with my psychic gonnes while Nadia bought some time for her friends by feathing the froghemoth with arrows. 3.0 cast some weird magic and Teres tried to distract with some eldritch blasts while that lazy asshole Hector Mullins didn’t even wake up! Then the horrible fog thing blasted us with psychic energy.  Luckily for me my brain was much too small a target for the blast and I was fine.  Not so lucky was Nadia and a couple of others.  Things really got hairy here when the bastard swallowed Nadi and tried to make a run for it! We all set off in pursuit and finally ran it down and killed it, thanks mainly to Uriel and his super impressive lightning bolts.  When we cut the frog open Nadia was dead inside but luckily Aremis did some big impressive mojo and brought Nadia back to life!  We rested up till morning and planned to push on, though Nadia and Uriel decided to return home, the assholes.  Hopefully five of us is enough for what’s coming next! . .. … …. Assholes!
