Below deck on The Seven Sins , Twitch held The Wave trident in her hands and turned it slowly, examining it from all sides. Despite the constant whispers of sahuagin voices that emanated from the three-pronged sea fork, it otherwise appeared to Twitch's uneducated eyes to be nothing more than an enchanted weapon--one of many in a world full of such items. Twitch pursed her lips, shook her head, and set the trident aside. Something doesn't add up, she thought. She turned to gaze out the porthole at the horizon as the sloop gently bobbed in its berth. Envy and the Outcasts had succeeded in penetrating the stronghold of House Amanatu the prior evening, landing unobserved in the gardens on the floating sky rock thanks to the magical assistance of Lukar and Sh'Nezz'Tar. Moving stealthily under the divine blessings of The Traveler, the group had nearly succeeded in reaching the entrance to the House Amanatu mansion itself when Envy's high heels slipped while scaling a fence and sent the tiefling bard toppling noisily to the underbrush. Envy had quickly gathered herself and used her easy charm to convince an investigating guard that she was a female guest of Lord Yorrick Amanatu, which gave the group the cover to set an ambush for the rest of the exterior guards. The Outcasts struck with savage ferocity, and before long, the duergar guards and Lord Yorrick's manticore lay lifeless along the garden pathways. Twitch had then tried the Kundarak key that Lady Alna had supplied on the mansion's front door. It worked; the magical wards that sealed the door eased and the group entered the manse. Yet in the vaulted foyer within, several statuesque guard constructs accosted the group and demanded a password; not hearing one, the constructs sounded the alarm and attacked. Once again, Envy and the Outcasts combined to weave their deadly war song; and once again, the group crushed their foes with dispatch. In the master's chambers at the top of curving flights of stairs, magical darkness was emanating from the double doors. The group sprinted upstairs. Calling upon The Traveler's gifts once more, Twitch dispelled the magical darkness. The group kicked through the bedroom doors to reveal two figures--Lord Yorrick Amanatu himself and a second, fiendish creature wielding a cruelly curved blade. As Lord Yorrick attempted to flee--empty-handed, Twitch could not help but notice--the fiendish creature attacked. Sh'Nezz'Tar made quick work of Lord Yorrick as the Storm Lord fell before the drow's blades, leaving the group to focus on the disturbingly unconcerned fiend. Not only was the creature unfazed by Lord Yorrick's death, but it also seemed nonplussed about its own imminent demise--indeed, it seemed to accept it. The fiend's body vanished upon its defeat, leaving Envy and the Outcasts seemingly alone in a Storm Lord's mansion. The looting soon began. While Twitch stood guard, the rest of the group located The Wave stuffed underneath the cushions of an elegant chaise lounge in the master bedroom--Twitch didn't want to think about what Lord Yorrick had used that for--as well as a host of magical and mundane treasures. Before long, the group was using their feather tokens to descend back to the surface of Stormreach en route back to The Seven Sins  with their booty. Still, Twitch felt uneasy. If Lord Yorrick had taken The Wave from the sahuagin to instigate the current conflict, why had he attempted to flee without taking it? The correspondence that the group had located in Lord Yorrick's mansion had reflected that House Amanatu was seeking the cause of the conflict with the sahuagin just as much as others were; if Lord Yorrick had known the cause, why hadn't any of his personal papers revealed that fact? Lord Yorrick himself had fallen quickly in battle, and the fiendish creature that the group had encountered had not--but it had seemed disturbingly satisfied with the outcome of the conflict even as it fell. Why? Twitch's gaze returned to the sahuagin trident. There are still too many unanswered questions,  she thought, and sighed. At her heart, Twitch was just a simple pirate. All she wanted was to live free, take what her heart desired, and serve The Traveler in walking a clear-eyed path. What had begun for her as a act of loyalty to her mentor, Captain Redtusk, was now revealing a tangled web of hidden actors and grand designs. Not for the first time, Twitch wondered what The Traveler had in store for her and her companions as they continued down the path laid out before them. What new devilry awaits us next?  she wondered.
