October 11, 2018 Thursday 6:30 PM PART speaks with the witnesses at the
Tea Room they take Constable into custody as well. Apparently he did
not erase the security tapes he just held on to them to prevent
Boris’ men to alter or destroy the tapes. Beyond that Constable
evokes his right to remain silent.
The PART officers take statements from
the rest of the Brooklyn Brigade members but none of them saw what
happened when Constable blasted Boris to death.
October 12, 2018 Friday 7AM At the Bunker someone is ringing the
doorbell is ceaselessly. Paladin checks the cameras and she a older
man in a suit standing at the door. The computer does not have facial
recognition software. Paladin makes a mental note to have it added,
then uses the intercom to speak to the man.
He is Leon Edwards, attorney at law.
He is here to present the Brooklyn Brigade with legal documents that
will separate them from Prometheus Medical, give them complete
control of the Foundation that supports them, and those members who
sign the forms will be the board of directors for the new, unnamed,
foundation entity.
Paladin takes the papers so he can get
them reviewed by another attorney. Edwards tells him to make haste
because if the injunction freezing Cassandra Clemons assets are filed
before the these documents are filed it might be a moot point.
Paladin makes a 2PM appointment with
Harold Leland, high power corporate lawyer, to review the documents.
7AM (Continued) Keith Cameron, aka Constable, sees his
attorney Saul Foreman. Constable’s bail hearing is at 11AM. The
recent good works the Brigade has been doing under the public
outreach program that they instituted is going to help. Super Bratva
(a.k.a. Karan Ihnzei) is a minor amnesiac child. Boris Antonov was
manipulating her, using her as a bodyguard. If he was still alive he
could have been charged with Super Human Trafficking. Foreman is
going to spin the events at the Tea Room as the Brooklyn Brigade
working to stop the Super-human Trafficking. The police reviewed the tapes and from
the statements given by the patrons of the restaurant including
Boris’ employees, state that he was moving towards the back door
(where his car was parked) when he was blasted. Why? Constable’s official statement was,
paraphrased as; “I didn’t know what he was doing. I thought he
was going to get a weapon like a tripod laser. I took him down is a
self-defensive reflex. I never meant to kill him.” Keith Cameron talks to Saul about
offering a plea of ‘no contest’ for Involuntary Manslaughter, a
class B felony. If the court takes the plea the defense (i.e. Saul
Foreman) can request probation for a term of not less than 9 years.
If the court accepts the plea but not the sentencing recommendation
he could be face imprisonment for not more than 25 years. If the court rejects the plea it is up
to the District Attorney’s office to assign charges. Assistant
District Attorney Gabrielle Katina Perez has been assigned the job of
prosecuting Constable.
8AM On the campus of Empire State
University Kismet is approached by her Uncle Cizko. He wants a loan
of $10,000 dollars but would settle for $1,000. He overheard a couple
of tech geeks at ‘A Cuppa Joe’, where Cizko works as a barista,
wanting to launch a AP but didn’t have a product to code for. Edgar
(Cizko) talked to them and convinced them that the continuing health
craze of the country would make a psychiatrist in your pocket a
sellable idea. For $1,000 they designers would cut him in for a
return on his investment but for $10,000 they would let him has some
influence in creating the product.
Kismet is interested to hear more so
Edgar sets up a meeting between the coders, Kismet, and himself for
7PM Friday night (tomorrow).
10AM While Lady Paper is doing her job at
her paper company her executive assistant tells her someone wants to
see her. LP happily drops her tedious duties and goes to see who is
waiting for her. The man is an older gentleman who is
well dressed. He identifies himself as John Smith, a dealer in
antiquities and curious goods. He is desperate for help. Fifty years
ago this coming October 31 he sold his soul for a comfortable,
successful life of good health and comfort. He reaped rewards from
the deal but the date of payment is approaching. He does not want to
die and would like the Brooklyn Brigade to find him a way out of the
deal.
Lady Paper asks him for names of the
dark sorcerers that he sold his soul to. John Smith has one, Melissa
d’Arque.
11AM Mr. Cameron (Constable) draws Judge
Randolph Halsey who is very pro-super hero and is otherwise
considered rather lenient. He releases Constable on his own
recognizance. His trial date is set for Monday the 22 nd of
October. Saul Foreman goes to talk to ADA Perez to see what can be
done about the charges against his client.
After being released and getting his
armor back most of the group drifts to the Bunker. Paladin does not
tell them about the meeting he has with Harold Leland.
12PM Noon With (most) of the group being at the
Bunker Lady Paper asks for help to run down information on Melissa
d’Arque. She is a 25 year old socialite who lives in Manhattan.
Doing a bit of research on her they learn she dates a lot of wealthy
and powerful men then casts them aside when she is bored with them.
They know something is amiss since
John Smith sold his soul 50 years ago and Melissa d’Arque in only
25…or is she.
d’Arque is connected to many
organizations including the Empire Club. They checked a few other
names and came up with Juanita Acevedo (age 18, inherited from her
grandfather), Leo Allison (age 32, inherited from his grandfather),
and Adam Betagne (age 98). They also discover Cave Carson was a
member. Cave died in 2013, he joined the Empire Club in 1959. Cave
Carson is Bonnie Baxter (of the Time Masters) grandfather. Derrick
Carson, Cave’s father, got the time machine plans from Stanley
Bradford (the time machine’s inventor).
2PM Paladin goes to Leland’s office.
Harold tells him that this is a courtesy consultation because the nom
de gar of Paladin can not retain the services of a lawyer. Paladin
reveals his name as Ben Tucker under client-attorney privilege and
retains the firm. Harold takes the contracts and tells Ben he will
have an answer by end of day.
4:45PM Harold Leland tells Paladin that the
paper work looks good. Whoever signs it will become the board of
directors of the BBrigade Foundation and take over the direction of
such. As soon as these papers are filed the BBrigade Foundation and
Cassandra Clemons and the Prometheus Medical and the Prometheus
Foundation will be severed from each other. This will protect the
Brooklyn Brigade from any legal actions taken against Cassandra and
the Prometheus entities.
The papers are signed (GM NOTE: I
forget to get a list of everyone who signed) and rushed to Leon
Edwards. They are filed just before the 5PM deadline.
6PM After making arrangements with Dollar
Bill the group goes to see Moloch at the Clock Tower. Moloch tells
them that Melissa d’Arque is a powerful demi-goddess and not one
that is friendly towards mankind. He tells them she was imprisoned
for 3 thousand years in the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh. He didn’t
mention but he should have that she was released from her prison by
an errant Empire Club adventure in the late 1920s or early 1930s.
Moloch also tells them that if she
were to be killed she would be reborn by possessing the unborn child
of a pregnant woman. Then she would grow to adulthood rapidly then
seek bloody revenge.
The Brooklyn Brigade warm him about
the rise of Vampires in New York to his overwhelming joy. (Sarcasm,
he was not happy at all.)
7PM Paladin goes to see GoGoGirl.
He lays out the plan to start
networking the remaining heroes post-Exodus. She asks if the Brooklyn
Brigade were offering her a place in the team, Paladin says…maybe.
She says she needs to check her contract to see if she can have duel
memberships. As the last Long Island Sentinel she does not feel she
can resign. Besides she likes the perks and pay the LIS provide but
she is willing to help if needed, assuming she isn’t busy fighting
evil when they call.
She then spends a bunch of time
flirting and being a bit silly until Paladin heads back to Brooklyn.
Gogogirl asks if the Brigade has
reached out to the Manhattan Circle? They are a group of magic users
under the tutelage of a sorcerer known as The Master. He’s
Japanese.
October 13, 2018 Saturday In the morning Lady Paper goes to
Melissa d’Arque’s 5 th Avenue apartment to negotiate
for John Smith’s soul. d’Arque says she will let John Smith live
out his normal life if Lady Paper will give her 25 years of her life.
LP declines. She then offers to give John Smith an extra year for
every innocent (virginal) soul he sacrifices to her. The deal is
declined. LP suggests John convince his wife to sell her soul for
extra time but John won’t let her.
John asks LP to hand the phone to
Melissa d’Arque. LP hears her say ‘that is an interesting idea. I
will talk to the interested party and maybe he will accept your
proposal’. Melissa returns the phone to LP and
then takes her out to brunch. She tried to get LP to sell her soul to
her in exchange for vanquishing all the vampires from New York city.
LP calls Paladin but he says that the cost would be too high.
Whatever the benefit from the deal would be the consequences would be
too dire to endure. LP and Paladin both agree that John
Smith needs to be watched.
