After May Koch arrived once more and joined her friends, the five went back to the Pharmacie de la Gare to get sandwiches, before heading off to the outskirts of Poissy. Passing a prison, and then through an old church abbey, they discussed what to tell the new owners of the land that the villa had been on. Arriving, they delayed a little too long outside the cottage that was now on the grounds there, and a Frenchman opened the door and welcomed them inside, introducing himself as Christian Lorien. They explained to him that they believed there was a cellar beneath his house, according to the plans they had found regarding the Comte's villa. A little girl, Quitterie, made herself comfortable on Hazan's lap. They spoke about the house and its history, and Christian remembered a letter he had received about 6 months ago regarding his house as well. Making coffee, the investigators noticed a scratch and scar on his right hand, which he explained as a result of a gardening failure. Quitterie accidentally bumped Hazan's arm, causing her to spill coffee on the two of them, including her left arm. The poor girl screamed, and Christian immediately grabbed a few cloths and helped dry Quitterie and Hazan, before bringing his little girl up to the bathroom, soothing her. Coming back down, he spoke to them a bit more about the possible cellar, and got them some shovels to take a look around the grounds and even the house. They set off, and Dennis was eventually lucky enough to find what they were looking for. The top step of a cellar, under two feet of dirt, snow, and brick. Seeing it, they all elected to dig the rest out after dinner, returning to the house. At dinner, they met Veronique, Christian's wife, who had problems in her left arm with arthritis. They spoke a bit about the cellar, the Loriens being very interested in what was apparently under their house. Halfway through the dinner, Quitterie was put to bed. She came rushing down later, claiming to have seen a boogie man in her window and being very scared. Christian put her back in bed, and they explained she had had that nightmare before. The group momentarily returned to the cellar, digging out the rest, up until the door was found at the 18th or so step. They elected to leave it until the morning, as it had become midnight and they were tired from their digging. Christian showed them their rooms, and they all got a good night's sleep. In the morning, of January 13th, 1923, they found Christian had made breakfast (scrambled eggs), and enjoyed some with him, reading the newspapers about recent events. After the nice breakfast, they managed open the cellar door, entering into a dark dungeon of various odd things. Skeletons, cages, torture devices... the sight was too much for Dennis, and he started to rush out. Luckily, May managed to grab him and snap him out of it, keeping him from dashing off away from the group. In the final room of the 'dungeon,' they found glowing roses and plants, with a statue arm in the center, covered in thorns and vines. Dennis- overcome with too many emotions- took the heroin he had bought from the pharmacy, feeling instantly better, but perhaps getting too attached to it. Dennis grabbed his shovel, cutting off all the vines around the statue and eventually managing to free it. Once it was free, the roses and plants started to die, and it fell to the floor. He took it up off the ground, finding the material it was made of to be smooth like china. They had retrieved the left arm of the simulacrum. Back up to the ground floor. The five notified Christian and Veronique, who were rightly horrified of what was below their house. They began to prepare to notify the authorities and a week of vacation away from their place. They politely yet firmly asked the investigators to leave. Dennis grabbed a nice plate of china from their cupboard before they all went back out into the streets of Poissy.
